Camp Nabby is a traditional 8-week summer day camp for children between the ages of 3 1/2 to 13. The mission at Camp Nabby is to educate and inspire young people and their families to choose healthy, playful lives.
There are five programs at camp--pre-k, juniors, seniors, leaders-in-training and counselors-in-training--all designed to reflect our core values: education, fitness, laughter and play. Every group is supervised by our qualified staff--mostly educators and coaches from the surrounding Northern Westchester community.
Camp Nabby has been featured in The Journal News, Newsday & The Yorktown Examiner. Founded in 1940, Camp Nabby is based in Mohegan Lake, New York.
History
Established in 1940.
In 1970, Frank and Flo Bertino became the second owners of what was then called Nabby Day Camp -- a tribute to founder, Abraham Nabatoff. Frank came from Riverdale Country School, in the Bronx, where he served as athletic director, head football coach, and founder of the school's very first summer day camp. When Frank arrive at Camp Nabby he quickly modified the program to reflect values such as teamwork, cooperation, athletic development and social skills -- all of which have greatly influenced Camp Nabby's philosophy today.
In 1997 the family torch was passed to Joe Bertino, Frank and Flo's son, to run the day-to-day operations of Camp Nabby. Joe, a retired physical education teacher and swim coach of 35 years, has been dedicated year round to Camp Nabby ever since. In true family tradition, Joe and his wife Rita, are joined every summer by his son, Matthew, sisters Gemma and Maddie and Maddie's husband, Dave (our tennis pro).
