I can't rave enough about this camp. It passes the mom test with flying colors and my daughter begs to go back.

Rollin, rollin, rollin!…read more My coworkers and I took a church to Carolina Creek for a week and i was excited for the group. What a joyful welcoming, I would have stayed if they asked me:)).

PLEASE READ AND RECONSIDER YOUR DECISION:…read more I feel very guilty to send my children there. Since the camp is not allowing kids having any electronics there, I had no way to know what was going on. Upon picking him up, he rushed me to take him home with teary eyes. This is uncommon to see him, esp now a middle school boy to show such emotion. I asked counselor how he was doing this week, he said, "it's better, but was rough at the beginning." I curiously asked, "what do you mean 'rough'?" He simply answered, "Words" and did not elaborate further. When we were ready to drive away from the parking lot, my son said "They are RACIST!" I was surprised what came out of his mouth. I carefully clarified what was going on.. He said many of his cabinmate said he was a "Ching Chong" and was a "WONTON BOY"!! The counselors witnessed everything but did not report to upper and took bullying situation seriously. Counselors hid, brushed off, and did not relay the incidents to parents (as they are young college students too). My son was just reading his book upon arrival as he is a "slow to warm" personality and did not bother anyone, but was being treated with UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIORS by his cabin mates and MENTORS. I was expecting this Christian camp would be a transforming experience, but it traumatized him at very difficult middle school age. Last day of the camp, kids leave with a booklet called "21-day challenge". By having such devotion, you get a "prize" once you complete them. I encouraged him to do it, he simply put it aside with a very sad sad face... As his mother, my heart aches. May God heals him fast and understand people (whether children or adults) that being mean or brushed off his hurts do not change God's and our love to him... As I mentioned the incident to Pastor Al before we left, he said, "I myself said something when I was younger that was not right either. We cannot stop all the situation to happen because that is how the world is now, quite sad." Will you take all these as parent? If you are colored ones like us, God still love you no matter what. We are not thin skin like wonton because He brings us trials and we overcame them, at this Carolina Creek. Also, I just found out from my daughter that kids are not allowed to wear ANY shoes inside cabins including shower/bathroom area. All shoes have to be left outside cabin. Our particular cabin - no bathroom allowed to use at night because this disturbs others. You know what, she unintentionally brought a poisonous toad back home when we washed her water shoes. I cannot believe it...

It's currently letting Galveston Yacht Club re-establish off of the property. It has multiple floors an is outfitting for meeting or all kinds of spaces, classrooms, etc. I haven't had a full tour. Tons of docks - they are being repaired with a goal date of the end of the year I think, maybe sooner. Prime area. I believe the goal is to sell it to a group to further sailing education and participation which is really cool. Great staff.

November 21, 2021…read more AWESOME EXPERIENCE with Captain Clement Jardin!! In honor of my 60th BD on the 23rd...we, "just sit right back and you'll hear a tale...a tale" of 3 gals on the bayou!!! (gilligan's island song reference) The three of us had the best time...Sunday FUNday! It was predicted to be a 40-80% chance of rain ...BUTT, not today Satan...the weather was perfect...hardly any clouds, 75 out and a decent wind...Capt Clement was patient, friendly and informative. I was the captain for about an hour...then I asked my friend to take over...she hesitantly did! We were on a 30 foot sailboat called, "the lift off!" It had plenty of space to sit. While on the water we met several other sailors/captains that Clement knew and we got to talk to from afloat. This outing cost $50 each and we were sailing in Offatt's bayou for 2 hours (maximum is 3 hours but, we all had to pee, so we lost an hour...old bitty's!!! LOL!) All in all, it was a FANTASTIC experience ...very zen. Get this...one friend aboard hadn't been on (any) kind of boat in 38 years (she had been involved in a near fatal boat crash at 14) and today, was the day she conquered that fear of water-crafts. We all learned a lot from Captain Jardin and about ourselves. " and if the wind is right you can find the joy of innocence again" (christopher cross 1979) For information about this sail...you can reach Captain at this email cjardin@ssbgalveston.org Or Call 409 572 2560 Do it!!!

Camp Jam - Simply Amazing!…read more Where do I even begin? Camp Jam was an absolutely incredible experience for my 6-year-old son last summer. As soon as we picked him up on the last day, he was already begging to go back again this year! The staff was phenomenal - incredibly welcoming, nurturing, and talented musicians themselves. You could tell they genuinely loved working with kids and fostering a love of music. The camp facilities were top-notch as well, with great equipment and spaces for all the different activities. My son came home each day excited to tell us about all the new songs, instruments, and music skills he had learned that day. From singing to piano, drums, And violin. he was exposed to such a wide variety of instraments. The counselors made everything fun and interactive. But beyond just having a blast, I was so impressed with how much he actually learned and grew his musical abilities in just one week. Camp Jam truly sparked a passion - he's been begging for piano lessons and trumpets his new repertoire of camp songs constantly around the house! I can't say enough about what an amazing opportunity this was. The life-long appreciation and skills Camp Jam nurtures are invaluable. We've already signed up for multiple sessions this summer - it's an absolute must for any family! Highest possible recommendation!

In music, they were introduced to a variety of instruments including violin, recorder, keyboard, and ukulele. I was amazed that in just a few short hours over several days, they were able to learn the basics and even perform on the violin on the final day. This experience inspired me to purchase two violins and plan for them to start lessons afterward. I truly appreciate Mr. Barry and all the teachers for their dedication and care. My kids are already looking forward to next year's camp!
