My daughter went to camp here last year. The experience she had was so incredible. The counselors to the directors are very sharp and nice people. It is not too far from home and very new and clean. I am guessing this camp is less than five years old but the construction and thought process behind the layout is wonderful. They have a huge slide that goes into the lake. They have a theatrical theater, new, clean, very nice cabins that have AC. They keep out fresh fruit as snacks, and my daughter being a vegetarian had no problem at all. The leaders of this camp base everything (from what I can tell) about developing your daughter into a strong independent person. They stress the great women in history and the impact they made on our lives. They lead your child into coming home full of confidence and pride in the things they accomplished with out your help. My daughter did one week last year but it will be two this year. This camp made a huge impression on her life and I am excited to see how she grows in the next session this summer. This is a very nice safe and protected place for you child. I often look at the picture on her wall hanging out in front of her cabin , messing around with her friends, having the time of her life. My daughters have been going to this camp for 5 years. Every year, they count down the days until they can go again. It's been a magical place for them. I'm so happy that Piper and Popsie (the leaders) have been part of our lives. Some of my favorite stories my girls have shared.... When my youngest daughter went for the first couple years, she had a "big sister" from the 9th grade leadership girls. The big sisters are supposed to grant wishes for the little sisters. Well, my daughter wanted to stop time. So, her "big" got everyone in the camp to agree that if my daughter yelled "Freeze!" in the dining hall, everyone would stop in place for five seconds. It was an empowering moment to know her wish could come true in such a creative way. Another year, my older daughter was struggling with some friendship issues. When the counselors ended up giving her the firelighter award - as someone who represented the spirit of camp - her entire self-perception changed in a very positive way that carried forward out of camp. This year, the middle school girls wrote everything they didn't like about themselves on post its, stuck them on their counselors, then ripped the post-its to shreds... so they knew they could destroy the power those things had over them. On top of all these amazing self-empowerment moments, camp is just fun! My girls come back learning new songs, happy about new friends, and exhausted from having so much activity for two solid weeks. As parents we are continuously faced with decisions we must make for our child, big and small. These decisions have made me feel good, sad, happy, anxious, guilty - providing me with constant questioning of my parenting skills. Then there are the few times when I know I've made a perfect choice for my wonderful daughter. One such example is deciding to send our daughter to Camp Lantern Creek. Our daughter began approaching my husband and I about the idea of sleep away camp when she was 7 years old. I had bad experiences at sleep away camp and couldn't believe she wanted to go so badly. I knew that I had to put my feelings aside and give her the experience that would be her very own. Our daughter is a very strong, independent, happy kid. We knew she would thrive at "the right" sleep away camp and told her she could go the following summer, when she was 8 years old and entering 4th grade. The challenge was finding "the right" place to send her that made all of us comfortable. I began my research. Our daughter wanted an all girl camp, where there were many types of different people. She wanted to experience people from different religions, different backgrounds and from different areas. She wanted a camp that would encourage her interests and accept her disinterests. My husband and I wanted an instate camp that would provide a warm, family-like atmosphere at which our daughter would feel safe to be who she is. After much time on the Internet, I found Camp Lantern Creek. Simply put, CLC is a very special place. In this day and age where bullying, competition, and negativity tend to overwhelm our daughters, CLC is a camp where none of this exists. CLC encourages girls to be independent and not to hide their true selves in order to "fit in". Everyone at CLC "fits in". CLC empowers girls to overcome obstacles, to embrace their strengths and to challenge themselves. CLC is our daughter's safe haven. Last summer she spent two life changing, life affirming, weeks as a CLC camper and will return this summer for four weeks. After one short summer experience, CLC has become part of our family and we are proud to be part of theirs. read more

I really cannot say enough good about Camp Lantern Creek. My daughter has grown so much over the years with them. This will be her 4th summer to attend the camp for girls. She learns how to be a strong person. She learns how to be a friend. She learns how to clean :). LIfe lessons at the camp really teach the girls how to be a good person. My 11 yr. old daughter actually picked this particular camp on her own after researching some others on line. She had never gone to an overnight camp before, so I was concerned about the camp she chose. After going on-line to review the camp's website top to bottom, I was very impressed with my daughter. She couldn't have done a better job of choosing. Camp Lantern Creek emphasizes developing young girls into leaders by focusing on confidence and self-esteem through creative arts, as well as nurturing each girls' strength within themselves. She was homesick at the beginning of her two week session, but on the drive home, so looked so happy and enthusiastic about the counselors and the friends she had made, she asked if she could go next year for a month! There are many camps to chose from--and I'm sure many are very good overall, but I'm not so sure that most camps can match the caliber of counselors that Camp Lantern has. The owners and counselors are all exceptional role models not only because they are strong, smart women with fun personalities, but also because they make a conscious effort to convey and instill those attributes to the campers. My daughter can (and did) look up to all of them. That right there is worth every penny. read more

CLC is a special place. My daughter loves it and is counting the days until she is back at her "camp home". She is learning leadership skills that will last her a lifetime. The property is beautiful, cabins are clean and welcoming. The owner, camp director and staff are stellar. They have a clear view on how important leadership skills are to young girls. They empower them to be proud of who they are, try new things and think outside the box. We love CLC! read more
