Eugene Emeralds Baseball Club

I've been to about a dozen Ems and Monarcas games through the summer, as I am new to the area and…read morehave been looking for fun things to do. I come from a town with a AAA team, and we attend a lot of games, so I have something to compare the Ems to. The ticket prices are reasonable, and parking is close by and while a little pricey, I feel that my car is safe. There are never long lines getting into the stadium (but bring your clear bag or you'll be sent back to your car). The atmosphere is very famiy friendly, the seating is comfortable, and the crowd is positive and supportive of the team. There are lots of food choices, as well as craft beers, ciders, and other beverages. The food isn't any more expensive than any other venue I've been to, but the quality and quantity of the food is better in every case. Their 4th of July fireworks display was outstanding, and their in-game games are fun to watch. The music and sound effects are a little much for me - they could tone that back. But overall I love attending the Ems games - they do a great job, and I would encourage you to take yourself out to the ball game!

The Ems are a hometown institution. They've been part of the fabric of Eugene of over 70 years!…read moreThey originally played at (now defunct) Bethel Park in, as you may have guessed, the Bethel neighborhood. They spent most of their years at Civic Stadium in Eugene before moving to their current location, PK Park, which is actually a University of Oregon facility for their baseball team. I remember going to games with my mom when I was young, when her workplace was doing a whiffle ball promotion with the team. And they have some fun promos nowadays too; we went to "Take Meow't to the Ballgame", where Pete the Cat was there and attendees were invited to bring their cats as well. We saw two cats... I'm not sure they were excited to be there, but I appreciate the out of the box thinking! Their official mascot is a Sasquatch, which is a fun nod to the legend in the Pacific Northwest. They also debuted an identity which they use occasionally called Monarcas de Eugene. Their Monarcas uniforms are gorgeous! I know that there was some talk about the Ems needing a stadium of their own (not as guests of the UO), which didn't pan out, and they've said they're going to move elsewhere. I'm not sure if that was the final word on relocation or if maybe they've backed off it a bit. I'd like the Ems to stay because it's good for Eugene. They do need to work on their merch, though. We went recently to the game and they one toddler shirt and a onesie, and everything else was a kid's small or larger. I wish they had more of their Monarcas identity in merch (I don't want a jersey; I want an everyday t-shirt) or the Exploding Whales (especially for kids!).

We are home visiting my mom and I definitely need something to do with my toddler at times. Though…read moreI grew up here I've never had a kid here so I'm at a disadvantage! But I found Bounce has some open gym times and we jumped on it (oops, didn't actually mean the pun) this weekend. I think they have them regularly on the weekend and are having more during spring break. The place is great. There's a section that has about six trampolines and my kiddo loved that--her first time on a trampoline (and I'm definitely never going to have one of those in my backyard so she can enjoy it at a place like this). There were bars and rings, different heights for different kids, and other equipment for them to enjoy. Upstairs there was some stuff as well, and rumor had it there was a slide up there, but we didn't get up there. They open gym for different age groups; there's a preschool group for kids under 5 and then one for kids up to 12 or so. My daughter was probably the youngest here on this particular day but the other kids were careful of her and kind given she's at a different developmental stage as them. I bought a package of six open gym passes (it's six for the price of five) since they don't expire, so we'll either use them on this visit or carry some over to a future visit. They also have some merchandise, like leotards and stuff. After all, they are a gymnastics school. Kids must have their socks and shoes off when playing but adults can keep their socks on--adults have to be right there with their kids as they play--so there are some cubbies in one of the room to drop your stuff. Don't forget to put your shoes back on if you use the washroom though. The parking situation was confusing--even looking at the sign I still couldn't quite figure it out. Just remember to park in an unmarked space.

I have a toddler and we usually go to another gymnastics place in town for play time, however, I…read morewas recently gifted a pass to try out the open gym time at Bounce. This is a great spot with so much stuff for littles to climb, push, bounce on, etc. and a big plus is that there are lots of trampolines so no turn waiting! The bathrooms are big and clean, and reception was nice when we came in. It's a little more expensive than the other place we frequent but Bounce does have more open gym times available so it's nice to have more options for most days of the week.
