While we have had great experiences with Camp Bow Wow in the past, we were extremely disappointed when our loving 2.5 year old Berner was asked not to return. Evidently, he had nipped counselors twice, which was enough to have him removed. I gave the staff recommendations for how to handle his requests for attention (even the staff noted that his nips were "not out of aggression"), but it seems they were unable to work productively with our dog. He has been through the PetSmart training programs through Advanced training and has taken the Therapy Dog training twice (passed all classes). He is a large breed dog and young, which can lead to unfortunate outcomes if one is not aware how to respond. The staff are lovely and kind, but this hard and fast rule made us need to relocate our guy to another daycare that has a greater ability to handle his unique personality. If you have a large breed dog that's mouthy or nippy, just be aware of this policy. read more

Giving this place 3 stars instead of 1 only because the staff has been very kind to our dog. However, the manager needs her own special training on being kind to others. Maybe one of her staff members can train her. Bottom line- Don't assume the worst in people. Most of us have good intentions and are just trying to be good humans, not disrespect your rules. read more

My opinion of camp bow wow drastically changed today. We had been taking my one year old husky to camp bow wow. A few visits back, she was bitten by another dog. They didn't realize she was bit until the wound bled (she's a white dog so it was easy to see the wound). I understood that happens, so I wasn't upset and I even took my dog back to them- since dogs do fight sometimes. After this episode she started displaying odd behaviors, not horribly aggressive- but snappy. Which was more than likely a result from the bite, she developed a reaction. As opposed to working with us to help her through this. They decided to kick her out. Now mind you they did not kick out the dog that bit her and took a little chunk out of her side. If they had kicked out the dog that bit her and caused her behavior change- I would be much more understanding. But they didn't. Instead she was the victim of an attack, that more than likely caused her to develop the odd behavior because of the attack. Where I find the action unacceptable is that as opposed to helping us work through the issue- that they were responsible for since she was bit while in their care- they kicked her to the curb. Looking back, they never even refunded me or offered to pay the vet bill from the bite she incurred from another dog under their care. That lack of responsibility is really unacceptable and honestly the lack of caring about the situation- is truly upsetting. I'm glad there are other dog camps in the area that more responsible and care for my dog as much as I do. I would look else where if you are looking for a dog care. read more

My 3 dogs love camp bow wow. One of my dogs is a special needs dog and the camp bow wow staff have gone above and beyond working with him to put him at ease these last 3 years. This morning when I pulled up, one of the staff came out to help me with the dogs. As soon as I turn into the parking lot, my hound dog is howling for joy. read more

Never got to board my dog there - after the annoyingly elaborate screening and "interview" process, they blacklisted my dog on some ridiculous claim of him being "nippy". Mind you, this a 4.5-year old Catahoula who is sweet and friendly like a kid, who has never attacked any dog or a person, been boarded multiple times at various places without a single complaint. Honestly, we have already been having second thoughts about the place, so are quite relived we wouldn't have deal with them. read more

I just moved here and my dogs are my babies, so I'm picky about where they go. This Camp Bow Wow with Erin and her team have been a TRUE life saver and true blessing!!!! They care, listen and are safe with covid requirements. Both of my dogs almost jump out of the car with excitement when they realize where we are going and at pick up time, both dogs are tired and actually want to sleep! One of my dogs has serious anxiety and can do weird things, she has actually failed daycares in the past. I was shocked when Erin listened, wanted to understand Luna and allowed Luna time to make sure she would be a good fit before just kicking her out and saying no. The people that work here are friendly no doubt. My dog has been here three times, the first time everything was fine no issues. The second time she went for the day in early august and she contracted kennel cough that time, I haven't been back until Wednesday September 21 2022 when I had my dog boarded for the night in preparation for the following weekend. She contracted kennel cough again. A 66% chance of catching kennel cough is too high for me to trust a company to take good care of her while she is there. No refund as well. Definitely should look around at other options before considering CBW. read more

I went in for grooming and the staff told me a Yorkie would cost a certain price. When I picked up my dog - no more hair on the poor thing - and then they told me the price is $30.00 more. I told them I was quoted at a lesser price and it did not matter, they insisted the dog took more time and their prices for grooming fluctuated up to $200. On a positive note, the groomer was very nice and did a good job on my dogs paws and legs. read more

Erin is the owner of Camp Bow Wow. She doesn't have control of her staff and many miscommunications have lead to her becoming angry and yelling at customers even hanging up the phone on them. Only to later, write sickening sweet apology letters. Camp Bow Wow is very reputable throughout the US as I've had several experiences, but CBW Frederick needs new management. They don't make efforts to accommodate all dogs, that may have special needs, yet they'll take your money. They do not pet the dogs during daycare - only just walk around as the dogs long for attention. My dog came back scared and smelling of dog feces the last time I brought her home. read more

I have boarded my dog at over eight different CBWs across the country as we travel full time in our RV. This is my first bad experience with this business. I contacted them two days ago about boarding our dog overnight so we could spend time site seeing in the DC area as well as give him a couple days to play with other dogs. Usually booking something on shorter notice is not a problem but not this time. They contacted me the next day and said if he hadn't been to a CBW in the last 6 months he would need to re-interview. Not a problem since he always does great. Told them where he stayed last as well as telling them the other CBW that he has stayed at a bunch of times since they know him very well. Guess that was not good enough. They will not interview and board on the same day. I could see telling us that if he didn't pass or they didn't have room then he couldn't stay. I hope this is not the policy at other locations otherwise we will have to rethink taking him there. One of the best things about CBW is the consistency of care from one location to the next but now maybe I can't rely on them anymore. Also, they never answer their phones and their voicemail says it's full so you can't leave a message. :( read more

Took my two Bernese Mountain Dogs to be groomed this week. Wow! I can't say enough wonderful things about Margo! She did an amazing job on our fur babies. The clipping/cutting she did was perfect for the breed, their ears and teeth were cleaned and they were soft and fluffy. They left very happy, too! We already scheduled our Fall "spa day!" I would highly recommend taking your puppy/dog to Camp Bow Wow. My dog loves it. I love the fact that he can interact with different dogs and I can check in on him from time to time with their app that is available for you to watch at anytime. The ability to watch the live camera feed on my phone was a huge deciding factor. Everyone was extremely patient with my dog who has anxiety issues. PLEASE READ and heed my warning before you take your dog to this place, there is something wrong happening here and before your dog goes through the abuse ours did please read about our experience. Now I'll be honest our dog can be a jerk, no question, he's a herding breed and therefore likes to be a little bossy, HOWEVER, it's also important to state that he has been a regular dog daycare attendee (not at camp bow wow) since he was 5 months old. His attendance has ranged from once a week to daily attendance based on my husbands work schedule. We were THRILLED when Camp Bow Wow opened a Frederick location and we were one of the first to sign our pup up since our daycare was far away in Ellicott city and quite a hike after our family moved. It started out great, our dog loved bow wow and would visibly get excited as we drove closer to it but over time that began to change. We noticed some anxiety in our dog as we would get closer and started getting calls that he was exhibiting "aggressive" behavior. We were confused and surprised but wanted to believe the owners. We would work with our dog at home but we noticed he was starting to change, our once friendly and personable pup was starting to be anxious, irritable and visibly distraught when we would take him to bow wow. During this time we ALSO had our dog going to his original daycare where none of these behaviors ever showed. The manager Erin would call us relentlessly saying our dog was biting other dogs and even staff members which seemed off considering our dog was spending considerable time cuddling our newborn at home and was happy except when we were driving him towards bow wow. Finally Erin said our dog was no longer welcome and honestly my only thought was that I felt bad for my dog, clearly there is something wrong happening at this camp bow wow location. Our dog still loves his other day care and they have never had a problem with him in the 5 + years he has attended. Do NOT take your dog to this camp bow wow location, while I don't know what they did to our poor pup I do know I have serious regrets for taking him there. He's not the same after attending their daycare and I would hate for your dog to go through the same ordeal. I regret not listening to my dog when my gut told me to. read more
