Rules for reading, I don't rate on the service, atmosphere or any particular events. The rate is for the food or drinks, I hate those who rate on the service, a bad waiter or waitress, really doesn't tell me about the food. I only want to know about the food quality. So, this place had awesome service. The waitress was polite, attentive and yet her broken English worked perfectly for the position she was in. She knew the menu and came back to check on us more than a few times. 4/5 stars for the service. She was the best thing about the place. For the food, 1 star. The pictures on the yelp site showing the food explain it all. Notice some images show the food with excess liquid, I mean watery beans without any flavor? And then the rice was served without any seasoning. The guacamole came with huge chunks of tomatoes and it was hard to separate the avocado from the tomatoes. When we sat the waitress brought out chips and salsa. Half the chips were going stale. The salsa was good but more of a liquid consistency. We asked the chips be sent back and new ones brought out. The waitress did without a complaint. Then the things went downhill fast. My wife ordered the Chicken Fajitas for two, "Meh." I asked her about the beans and rice, "Meh." At least the margarita was good. It was sweet, but that is common and can depend on someone else's palate. She requested the corn tortillas because she forgot to order them at the beginning. The waitress brought them out without a problem. They tasted, "Meh." I ordered the Deluxe Burrito, it came out looking like a Picasso done by a three year old, filled with beef from a chef who used to work at the Bell. I tried to eat it but, "Meh." Long and short, nothing had seasoning unless it had the wrong seasoning and nothing was done right. This place deserves a 1 star. read more

Jalapeño margarita was just a margarita with slices of jalapeño. Didn't taste like jalapeno and wasn't spicy. Food was okay, service was friendly, good, and quick. My girlfriend asked for the white sauce for her chips, it smelled and tasted like it had gone bad days ago. I ordered the 3 taco combo and my girlfriend ordered the Arroz Con Pollo. The tacos were bland and tasted like a store bought taco kit. The beans that came with them were watery and bland, and the rice was gritty and also bland. My girlfriend said her food tasted unseasoned and the chicken in her dish looked boiled. Location is in a weird place next to storage units. Definitely a hidden gem! Walking in it looks dark and questionable. But was absolutely phenomenal. Sweet server and very friendly. Homemade salsa was so good and I do not like salsa but this was so good, like gazpacho. The queso was good and the chips were so good and homemade. The burrito Camino real mega was phenomenal. Ground beef, rice and beans and just the best. Better than any of our favorite Mexican restaurants. We are an hour and 30 from here but we will definitely be back! read more

We will start with the opportunities. The restrooms were nothing short of bad. The entire restaurant was on the warmer side but add that to ill kept restrooms and you are trapped in a porta-potty on a summer day. The ambient temperature of the overall restaurant was a little uncomfortable but nothing that would stop me from returning- the restrooms, well I will just wait until I get home. The food- the salsa was middle of the road. Not bad not great. The onions were a bit on the big size, could have been cut a little smaller. I ordered the carne asada burrito and my husband got the Camino Real Especial with a fish taco al a carte. The tortillas were delicious. I would put money on them being homemade. The meat was seasoned nicely (could have been a little heavier on spice but it was good). The beans and rice- were money! Jalapeño margarita was good- if they muddled the jalapeño it would have taken it to the next level. The service, fantastic. The server was very attentive, polite and warm. Yes the location is in a janky spot but that has no bearing on anything. I have a soft spot in my heart for "hole in the wall" Mexican joints having grown up in San Diego. I wish I could give more stars but the cleanliness and the mediocre salsa were big and the "wow" factor was not there with the meal- albeit good. Would I return, yes. Would I recommend? Strangely situated in the middle of a storage facility, but perfectly squared away our hunger pains. The decor is a bit off putting but don't let that fool you- this is the oasis in the middle of bumF nowhere. There's really not many food options in the area, and especially more so on Mondays-Wednesdays. There is a Taco Bell and some other fast food joints, but if you want some homie food, this is where to go! We had such a hard time looking up restaurants and decided to make the drive back out to Luray all the way from Skyland Lodge where we were staying about 35-40 mins out (and this is after we had already gone from Luray Caverns to Skyland, so it was a trip all the way back where we started). It was well worth the trip bc I can't say I was looking forward to any food from Skyland's Dining Room (and after I had breakfast there the next morning, I can confirm the somewhat long drive was worthy). We had the carnitas de pollo, which is a stir fry of chicken breast, bell peppers, onion, in a special salsa (and they're salsa is delish), accompanied by Mexican rice and sour cream. The seasoning was just right- not too salty nor bland. We also ordered the Fajita Real, which was a mixture of chicken, steak, and shrimp. It was actually similar to the other dish with just less seasoning and tortillas + guac. Overall, solid option in the area. If you're ordering drinks, I recommend you opt for something more standard like mojitos, shots, or margaritas (they have a full bar but not too many liquor selections). read more

My family and I came to try this restaurant only because of the YELP Reviews. We first walked in and we weren't really greeted. The server asked us how many and to sit there. My husband and I rooked at each other and still sat down. We arrived around 540 PM. It was busy. There were only two waitresses and they had many tables to attend including the bar section. I didn't know there was a bar section until it was time to check out. It took 30 to put our order in- even for our drinks. We were patient because we saw that the waitresses were overwhelmed. One hour later we got our food. It was a long 1.5 hours but I would say it was worth it. We noticed that it was just the owner himself cooking all the dishes as fast as they were coming in. The owner- wife- walked by and offered a discount for our food due to the inconvenience but we offered to pay full price. We are under a rough time with unforeseen circumstances the owners are doing what they can. I just wished the waitresses took a step back and greet everyone and let them know it's only one cook and it'll be a wait time for food to come out. read more

Looks can be deceiving. Traveling alone with my daughter we were wondering where the gps might take us, as we seemed to be going further from the main roads and the building is adjacent to a storage facility. However, I think that's part of the charm. It's simple, authentic, home style cooking and the workers clearly care. We only saw one woman working at the time, but she was hustling and did her best to stay on top of things. I would definitely go back when we are in the area. First I need to address that my trip started 5 hours after it was supposed to. Arrival time was 9pm. All grocery stores in Luray, VA close at 8. We had a choice of three places that we needed to get to before 10pm closing. We chose Camino Real. There were no road lights. The entrance was in a storage facility. The side of the building had no windows and all lights were off. In complete and utter desperation we sent the driver to "check" if the front door was open. It was. Unfortunately we were told they had already closed. Defeated and searching for fast food online, a sweet, masked, festively dressed lady came out and asked how many people we needed to feed. We said 7....and she ushered us in. In complete contrast to the outside, the inside was vibrant, bright, and welcoming. Although there was a cleaner sweeping....they turned on some música for us and it was a whole party. The chips, salsa and guac started rolling in!!! I had "combinación numero cuatro", two enchiladas and a taco with refried beans and yellow rice. All ground beef. The food was authentic Mexican, seasoned to perfection and FRESH. Even at 10pm, they made fresh guacamole and chips. Not old or stale because we were last people to walk in. I was impressed to say the least. The presentation, taste, and amount of food (because we were starving) was perfect!!!! Drinks were good too. Mountainous margaritas, sodas and frozen strawberry lemonade. Although we had a ball we decided to leave and let the workers go home for the evening. We closed the tab. Conclusion: Camino Real is a Godsend in this town! read more

We walked in and there was no air conditioning. They had fans so we figured we would try. We sat down the table was sticky, the place was empty but most of the tables were covered in dirty dishes. Waitress came over and asked if we wanted chips salsa guac and queso really quickly before asking about drinks so we said sure she left. Came back with guac that looked like someone dumped a jar of pepper on, queso was thin and watery and salsa was horrible (no chips) left. Came back maybe 5 min later got drink order which was 2 teas 2 waters put burnt chips on the table. All the 3 saucers of stuff was gross and we did not consume them we put the guac on the edge of the table because it had a weird smell. She brought over 4 waters set them down in the middle of the table and said oh maybe you didn't like the guacamole? I said no, please take it. Still no tea, just sink water. Time passes and we get 2 teas and give her our order. She leaves and we try tea, it is the most bitter tea I've ever tried in my life and there is a gritty residue in it that is not sugar and it's too dark to understand what it is. I've had enough, at this point we are afraid to eat the food. My husband goes to the register to give them some money for the chips and salsa and leave. While he is at register parting ways a man brings new guac, I told him I didn't want it (I guess they just knew that the teaspoon of pepper was unacceptable and replaced it because I didn't say anything but "please take it") he said I made fresh, I said I didn't ask for fresh he said take it and set it down. Husband came back to the table and said they made him pay for the whole bill and even charged us for the chips and salsa everything that hit the table including 4 sink waters and the food we never got. We paid over $80 and left. While we were in the parking lot the woman came out and said the food is coming we said we don't want it and she insisted for us to wait and we said no thank you. I see that they have great reviews but believe me, that was not our experience. RUN! Go anywhere else. read more

Ladies and gentlemen I am from queens New York. This place tasted like a home cooked meal. The food was yummy not artificial not reserved, it was fresh and yummy! I order the steak quesadilla and the food was fresh intact and fulfilling. (Steak quesadilla) I recommend. My husband and cousin ordered the "Camino Real special" they loved it. I went kayaking this past weekend at the Shenandoah River. After an 8 mile kayak you deserve to eat anything you want, and I definitely was feeling for some Mexican food . I found Camino Real, and loved it! We got seated right away. It is very spacious inside, but I wanted to sit outside. The view on their patio is breathtaking because you get to see the mountains as you eat. They gave us chips and salsa to munch on while we looked over the menu. They have so many delicious Mexican dishes to choose from for amazing prices. I decided to get the shrimp fajitas! You have the option of ordering corn or flour tortillas. It was very yummy and tasty because of the perfect amount of seasoning. It came out nice and hot (sizzling). The plate is also pretty big so you will not leave this restuarant hungry. I loved our waitress. She was very sweet, and cared about our experience in Shenandoah. This was the best hospitality experience I have had so far when dining out. The drinks come and my lemonade is perfect and the margarita definitely A+. Chips were great and salsa was fresh. Food comes and at this point I couldn't care less about anything else. Portions were huge! More importantly absolutely delicious. The owner/ chef stopped by and asked us how we enjoyed the food. He recommended the flan and sopapillas for dessert. Then our waitress comes by and hands us the check. I'm like we'd like dessert. She sheepishly takes the check back and we order. Dessert was phenomenal as well. Definitely worth eating here. I came here to grab take out food. The owners were there to take the order and were really friendly. I got a shredded beef enchilada with a shredded beef chimichanga. They cooked the food to order right there as I waited. When I got home to eat my meal I was pleasantly surprised. The portions were huge and they even added in a generous portion of chips and salsa. This place is definitely a hole in the wall, which is right up my alley. All of the food came piping hot - they gave us fresh chips and salsa, which was very addicting and we couldn't stop snacking on them before our meal arrived. My family of 5 ordered 2 Chicken Fajitas (which had pretty huge portions - 6 tortillas, beans, rice, cheese, guac, but not as much chicken in comparison); Arroz Con Pollo (flavorful chicken and rice dish with a lot of vegetables in a delicious brown sauce) and a Veggie Burrito (with rice and veggies with a side of beans and sour cream). I wouldn't say this was the best Mexican food I've ever had, but it was definitely a great spot in the area, and we were able to eat the leftovers for dinner since the portions were that big.
