The food is good but it's location and it layout inside is terrible. No place to park, only a couple places to park. The interior layout is like a cave. I lived in Southern California for nine years and had the pleasure of the finest food from the Mexican heritage. The food here is the most authentic I have found anywhere in the tri state area. Every time the food is fantastic and not "Americaned down." Simply the best I've had. The folks that own and run this restaurant remember our name and what we ordered last time in. If you haven't been, regardless of how far, it is worth it. Never have I been treated better than here. We drive 50 miles and we have a Mexican restaurant in the city we live on. We have come here twice now with a large group for family events. They are so kind and accommodating. The food was fantastic and for a group of 20+ I was blown away with how fast they brought the food out. Everything was wonderful! It was a reunion for us, one person who got there early was in the bathroom after driving her distance, and came running up front to meet us. With all the hugging and happiness they must have realized we weren't from Canton & perhaps that's why the male owner treated us so well. The experience/food/atmosphere were delightful. Service, impeccable. That enchilada trio special was really good with three different sauces. I liked their rice & I hardly ever like Mexican rice served anywhere. Our companion only wanted a taco. It was typical. She took out the copious amount of lettuce however. Place was packed w/ locals. Got busier and busier for this lunch hour. The owner appropriately gave "me" (how'd he know) the check, with absolutely no rush. When I deemed to place my cc, he, again, appropriately took it from table and returned for me to sign. Ahh, happy times. On cc I tipped over common requirement, then threw extra cash on the table for "rent" on our time spent. ***Then daughter and I returned Saturday night before heading home Sun morning. *** "Went back Sat nite. Disastrous! No English! Screwed up everything. Worst service ^^ ever**! Wouldn't hv or pick up chk. Aweful!!l". Notes. Happily returned. Daughter ordered while I ran up front to read the special again. The menu is so big, going w/ intriguing special was a good option. I returned and asked if she'd ordered me a margarita -- she had not. The girl who seated us the first day was nearby, so we approached each other & I said, "I'll have a margarita on ice w/ salt, please." She seemed confused. But, jeeez, how hard is something they serve daily? And daughter had just ordered! Guess what she brought. 1 margarita, rocks, salt. 1 glass of margarita mix, no salt, and a glass of ICE!! No kidding. Daughter was so frustrated she gave me the rocks margarita and somehow manipulated the mess for herself. And another reviewer was right. How they get food out as fast as they do is questionable 'Cause the Hawaiian burrito was right there. I was negligent in taking photos. Sorry. It was tasty but the oddest "Mexican" item we've ever had, including ham and pineapple, reminded me of an Hawaiian Pizza. And they didn't even bring us extra plates, as before. And the owner was there. I saw him and he did nothing. Had they been partying this Sat night w/ the locals? Really. Okay, the stupidity of the drink was bad enough. Following putting food on the table we were COMPLETELY ignored. COMPLETELY. No, common curtesy of "Is everything to your liking". Nothing. We sat. And sat. I put out my cc. Nothing. So we angrily got up and walked to the front where "margarita girl" was behind a cash register, took the cc, and so upset, I accidentally way over tipped. BTW: Monday morning my husband was notified of "thousands" of $ on our cc they knew wasn't ours. Origin: Canton, Ill. It was like two charges, one for $4,000, one for $3,000. Just sayin'. read more

We were promptly seated in a spacious dining area decorated in Mexican motifs. The hostess took drink orders & brought home made chips and salsa. Orders were promptly taken. Wife had chix & steak fajitas, I had burrito croqueta, & daughter had cheese quesadillas. All lunch specials were under $8 & came with delicious rice & beans. I asked for the check while I sat & finished my beer. Two cockroaches appeared crawling across the table. It grossed me out! I went to the ladies room debating if I should say anything but I was gagging so bad I couldn't talk. So I'm writing this review instead. Service was fast and kind here. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time. The complimentary chips and salsa were good. The salsa tasted better than the last time I came. Festive dining area and the horchatas were huge. My friend loved her horchata and said it was of the better ones she's had. The guacamole was fresh, chunky, and tasted pretty good. Although I miss my mexican food in SoCal, this place was pretty good. Clean, good prices, and big menu with all the classics. Our server was friendly and called us senoritas...you know that kinda thing makes it feel authentic. HA! I ordered the nachos fajitas. It was a mountain of typical fajita veggies and chicken, pico de gallo, cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. Best thing about this place is the freaky fast service. I mean seriously, they worked magic in that kitchen. My only complaint would be that my chips got soggy really quick. I preferred to use the chips from the free basket the gave to the table. Partially because there's few places open nearby on Sunday nights, partially because they have margarita specials, and partially because they're just that good, we've made a tradition of having dinner here on Sundays (or any other time it sounds good). Suddenly it seems as if Canton has some real choices when it comes to Mexican food. We now have two fairly high profile places to choose from and in my opinion they are both great. Both places have similar food and a similar pricing model. Both places offer generous portions of delicious Mexican food. I think El Camino Real wins out by being more visible as they are located right on the square in downtown. I also feel that they have a more interesting decor, I really love the brightly painted booths. In general I feel that you get your food a little quicker at El Camino Real as well. I think the things that make El Camino Real come in on second place are their chips. While the salsa is delicious, the chips themselves are very plain, slightly thick, and have almost no salt on them. Another place where they lose out is the building interior. This is in an old building with VERY high ceilings. Because of this, it is very difficult to be heard in here due to the echoiness. I understand that there is little they can do about this, I just thought I would mention it. Overall this is a great place for terrific Mexican food. read more

El Camino Real has quickly become my favorite here in Canton. I have yet to order a dish that I haven't loved and their margaritas are consistently delicious. We eat Mexican food regularly enough that they know us when we walk in the door, they greet us with a smile, and always remember what we like. While competing with two other Mexican restaurants in town I will say that El Camino Real has far out done the others as far as my standards go in terms of service, quality, price, and cleanliness. This is by far the best Mexican place in town. The food is good and the prices are reasonable. The staff are very friendly and more than willing to help you. The Chips and salsa are amazing. The salsa seems to be made fresh as it is slightly different each time we go in for dinner. It has lots of cilantro so if that is not your thing than you might not like the salsa. My favorite meal is the carnitas dinner. But there are many other things that are just as good. read more

Took the family out for a bite with some friends. Four adults and three kids. We were seated pretty much right away, chips and drinks in under five min, the way it should be. Servers were pleasant and casual / professional. Had the pork carnitas, I think, cooked in orange juice and something else. HUGE serving of lean, tender pork that was roasted and then grilled for a crispy exterior. I don't know how they got such lean pork to be so moist. Excellent. The only complaint I have is the same problem I have with a lot of places that use a lot of lettuce. It comes from a bag and tastes bad to me. read more

My boyfriend and I absolutely LOVE this place! They have a huge menu, and they give you huge portions! I order the Ranchero Burro every time because it is delicious!! Its a tortilla with chicken or beef, rice, refried beans, sour cream, tomatoes, and letuce... I get it with the chicken and it is extremely juicy... and I love the consistency, everytime I get it the quality is the same!!! It really tuffs you till you cant move! My boyfriend usually gets the cheese steak tortilla, and i tried a bit and it was juicy and delicious! This place is really great... Love the decor too, really bright and fun... The servers are always very very nice!! I have no complaints about this restaurant, and I try to go there whenever I get the chance! My husband and I came about this little gem tucked away in the town square in Canton. Just a block from our hotel we stopped in for a late dinner just before closing. The staff all greeted us with a smile and were absolutely wonderful! My hubby had grilled shrimp and I had the steak fajita quesadilla. The food was delicious! We each had the 20 ounce margarita as we celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary. Our waitress came by to check on us often and even brought us a dessert on the house for our anniversary treat. I cannot say enough about the fantastic family of El Camino Real........they make customers feel right at home. Highly recommended! read more
