Children and their families are very blessed to have a facility like this that allows their family members to be close to them during a difficult time. Everything in the facility is pretty much donated by various organizations. From the food to the rooms these families are provided for. The facility is kept clean and for the most part looks very comfortable. If I had the funds I would pour into these facilities as well because insurance only covers so much.

My tenant started contacting Camillus House in Miami for rental assistance back in 11/2024. Both…read morethe tenant and landlord provided all needed documents in a timely fashion in multiple rounds. However, the communication from Camillus House was always blurry. They always told us the case would be processed in a couple of weeks and nothing happened in the next a couple of months. When we contacted them again, the same thing happened. They kept asking for new documents. However, once the new document was provided and they just stopped communication. It seems that this Camillus House does NOT really want to provide assistance but merely stays in business so that the staff get paid by the donated money. I would like to share my story so that others can get a better picture of this organization.

But while i have always had a desire to volunteer and get involved, i also had a fear of the commitment entailed and the complications that might arise out of my already busy schedule. What is so perfect about Hands On is that it's a flexible volunteering model with no long term commitments, no background checks, no frills or complicated processes. I simply went on the site, found an activity of interest, which to me was working with teens and/or kids and signed up for a specific date. I've been hooked ever since- volunteering my time every month at Miami Bridge- an emergency youth shelter for abused, neglected and abandoned teens ages 10 to 17 and I love it. Every activity is assigned a project leader who takes responsibility for the group and can be a resource on that day for help with directions, etc... I can honestly say it's been a wonderful resource for me in finding ways to get involved and make a difference. Definitely check them out at handsonmiami.org and sign up for an event.

They are a great central source of various community initiatives and projects in the Dade County area. It does not matter how old your are or what you like to do, there is something for everyone @ HOM that wants to give back to their community. There are projects just on the weekend, weekday days and evenings, just for kids, just for adults, for the whole family to join too. So really time can't be an excuse! There is an hour orientation that you participate is that gives you all the info you need to get started. You can check out their website(http://www.handsonmiami.org) for the next one. The people @ HOM are top notch too. Really friendly and go out of their way to help you every step of the way. Definitely worth checking if you want to get involved in your community!!!

I love that this is a family friendly place and I love their high success rate of getting people off the streets and into real housing, not just their homeless shelter. Which is probably why they take ALL SORTS of donations. When you have residents get a fresh start in their own place, they could use the furniture and wall pictures and dishes and vases and stuff. Which makes it different than a normal homeless shelter. I donate stuff about once a month to either this location or to the downtown location. (I have put the word out to neighbors and friends that they can drop stuff at my house, even if I'm not home. You'd be amazed how many people just throw stuff away because when they are in the cleaning mood, they want it gone now.) When I go to drop off, there is great security. Also, the residents seem to do volunteer hours and come out to help me unload my van and then sort our the donations. When I go inside for my receipt, I overhear conversations where they are helping residents set up appointments and job interviews. I am very impressed with this organization.

The items we received were premium quality and far better than I expected. The entire process was smooth, organized, and completely stress-free. We never even had to get out of the car! I also want to give a special thank-you to the city employee who kindly added my child's name to the list. And yes, we received a turkey too! I truly appreciate the care, generosity, and coordination that went into this event.

I had some time to kill so I thought I would pop in and glad I did, and also I'm glad I speak Spanish because nobody speaks English in this area lol it was well organized, focus was mainly enclosed, small amount of books and CDs, but I was ecstatic to find this luggage find it that was barely used.
