(not the Trader Joe method, more like Kirkland model) one can buy it at costco, sam's club, or online on their website. u can get find reviews on their product everywhere online or u can just choose a random bottle. (results will be hit or miss). i've tried a few bottles years ago. wasn't impressed, nor disappointed. if i had done research, my finds would probably be better or empty handed since everyone else would have read the same review. read more

Cameron hughes is a wine dealer that acquired the name of a former dealer. don't confuse the prior owner with the current owners...only the confusing name is the same... the current dealer offers a fairly wide variety of domestic and foreign wines that carry their own label. the wine is a mixed bag both in terms of quality and price. the difficulty is that there is really no objective review, so every bottle or case is a potential surprise. some of the deals have been great, and some very disappointing. as a rule I mix cases. you really have to buy cases to max savings and shipping costs. this is probably a wine dealer where you should buy a mixed case of 12 different wines and try them all as soon as they arrive, reordering what you like best. maybe use that as the theme of a wine tasting party. they have several annual sales with at least 20% discounts, and also offer discounts if you have an account...you dont need to join the wine club to have an account. if you are going to drink 4-6 cases a year, its worth trying to see if you can spot a gem. read more

I was a big fan of Cameron Hughes wines. We used to get them from Costco and they never disappointed. Last year Mr Hughes reentered the market with de Negoce, a wine sourcing and shipping vendor. Perfect for Covid 19 needs, so we gave it a try. Here'a a copy of the letter I sent him November 11. No response so far. I trusted this brand based on past experience with the buyer. So far, the wines I've tasted, except for the Viognier, are not as glowingly described. I've been involved with wine making on a private level for 10 years, my palate is quite evolved; the red wines are, so far, immature. "Hi Cameron, I thought I'd give you some feedback on this particular batch. I bought it because the description was similar to the Zinfandels that I love. Zinfandel is my favorite wine. This is a 2018, bottled in July of this year so two years in the barrel should've been enough time to develop some nice round flavors, with the classic spicy finish. But, sadly it's quite raw with a hint of spice, followed by a bitter finish I've not experienced before. I hope this first bottle is a fluke. It's been stored at 55 degrees since delivery in October. This is a wine I'd refuse at a restaurant and would be embarrassed to serve to a guest or gift it. I made lasagna, thinking it might need some food to bounce off of. That helped, but it still lacks the traditional finish and the bitterness remains. The alcohol content is intact, so I'm buzzed, but that's not the point of a good wine. Now I'm a bit leary about Cab #47, which is being shipped this week. It was only one year in the barrel (I'm not an expert, but I do help make award winning private wine) and I think a Cab needs 2 to 3 years in the barrel. I realize this means I need to hold it for 2 to 3 years before drinking it. So any assessment of it at this point would be useless. My bad for not looking at the year and assuming it was a couple years in the barrel. Sorry that my feed back is not positive, but that's what I taste. #37, Viognier is all it was promised to be. #3, Cab Franc is good, not awesome, I'll hold it a bit longer. #24, Pinot is another 2019, I won't open it for a year or more. Anything under $15.00 is junk, you are better off spending $10.00ish from Safeway via their additional 10% 6 pack discount. $18 wines and up are good, but you may get better deals from the wineries themselves during wine tasting events or during cellar sales events. Most of the wine tasting events held directly at the winery sell by case only. The winery events usually more than 50% off. The shipping cost of CH doesn't help. They used to ship 12packs for free, now you have to do 24. That is a lot to buy from 1 merchant for individual consumption. They have a yearly clearance event at their SF offices, those are good deals. The best deals I see are when Safeway clears out the CH inventory. A $14 Sonoma Zinfandel for $7.00. Wine wasn't that good, I didn't want to go back and buy more. read more

I have been looking for a certain Prosecco and finally found it at Cameron Hughes. I waited about two weeks and heard nothing from them. No confirmation of order, no communication at all. So, I contacted them. The person told me that they had reached out to let me know they could not ship it to my location, but they had not heard from me. No email or phone call was ever received. I was given the option of shipping to another state or cancel the order. I told them to cancel it because it would be less hassle. I asked if I would get some kind of acknowledgement that it had been cancel and was promptly told "No". Customer service does not seem to be their strong suit. read more

I originally bought Cameron Hughes Lot 540 on Groupon, and just recently started buying on the Cameron Hughes site itself. They do not have a bad wine. They range from a really good wine to an "Oh my God" wine for under $20. I have spent my whole wine drinking life living on $10-15 bottles of wine, and once in a while splurge for a higher price wine, and I go from just ok to a once in while, really good for the higher price wine to really really disappointed in the higher price wine. Then it went to OK for a while and now it is in NM and appears to be stalled there. Until recently, my only contact with CH wines was through Costco. Several times while shopping at the Richmond Costco, I've encountered a sales person with a card table and a pile of Cameron Hughes wines from different "lots" spread out in front of him. I bought the wines, basically out of curiosity, and found that they were clearly much better than the $12 or so I was paying for them. My idea was that "Cameron Hughes" was a completely made-up name (sort of like "Kirkland") and that the wine was heavily manipulated by wine industry wise guys. I've now actually met Cameron Hughes, who turns out to be a real person. I've tasted a lot of his "lots" and have a half-decent sense of his business. Folks, he really is peddling good stuff that was made to sell at a much higher price. The fact is that there's a glut of $50 wine that nobody wants to pay $50 for any more. CH buys plenty of it, basically by the tankful. CH generally bottles the wine itself and then sells it through Costco, Sams Club, and other retailers -- and also through its own web site. Although the provenance of all of the lots is supposed to be a secret, Cameron did mention the names of two of the suppliers, one that's no longer selling wine of the type that was off-loaded to CH and one that bottled its wine before selling it off -- and left its name on the corks! Although the wines that I have been buying in Costco tended to be Napa reds, the wines that I liked the best in my recent exposure to CH wines were not California reds. I'll recommend specifically the Lot 25 Carneros sparkling wine, which is a 1998 vintage CA "champagne" that sells for only $21. The Lot 92 Margaret River chard is a killer, and the Lot 91 Russian River chardonnay was also super-yummy. read more

It was okay to drink when nearly frozen, but even Chandon's normal brut was better than this. Then the infamous lot 35... I believe if you think of them as $10 wines you won't be disappointed, but if you fall into his advertising... buyer beware. Let me chirp in as a true wino, er. I mean oenophile. This is perhaps the greatest price/taste performance wine in CA. This Cameron guy is pretty smart. He doesn't own a winery, and how doesn't own a vineyard. He goes around to top Napa and Sonoma wineries and buys the remaining vats of wine that is not bottled. He then magically blends it, and then sells it for $10-13 a bottle. It tastes right up there in the normal $30-60/bottle range. Hint: for maximum pleasure, decant the wine at least for one hour before serving. COSTCO ONLY: is the only place you can buy it. A great find and super buy for quality taste. read more

Forget 2 buck chuck. If you haven't heard, they run their workers to death picking their grapes to get it to you for a whole $2 bucks. While I understand that this economic downturn may be hitting your wallet, there's alternatives to buying the cheap stuff. Like buying the cheap stuff that has quality in it. Cameron Hughes wines, sold mainly at Costco and Sam's club are amazing deals. Usually ranging for $7.99 to $16.99, they're a great bargain for what you're getting. What are you getting, you ask? The company goes around and buys out over stock lots or grapes/finished bottled wines from high end vineyards. Maybe they're moving from Chards to Merlot or so forth, they unload their excess product to CH and what would originally cost $30-50 a bottle cost you something under $20 or so. Now the quality is top notch. I have had so many more hits than misses with their wine. And even the misses taste better than just about any other wine under $15. The one I still remember is Lot 38. It had a lot of bottle shock when I first bought it. So I laid down four bottles and almost a year passed before drinking it. It was amazing. Currently lot 84 is one of those that taste amazing, but I hear that laying it down for a while will only make what must be a 91 point wine, taste even better. Amazing bargain prices and with a numbering system it creates a sort of "Got-a-catch-em-all" mentality in finding the lots. Dealing with their online site is also easy to use. So if there's a bottle you can't find you can easily order it off the site and they'll provide you plenty of coupons for making it cheaper. read more

We bought CHW at Costco for many years and then we found ordering and buying online is even easier. I have shared CH wine with even the finickiest wine drinkers and they have been impressed. This is probably my least favorite wine I have had from CH wines. It's disappointing when you have had so many great wines and then a really bad one. This wine lacks any character, aroma or taste. It's pretty bland and would not complain but this wine is unacceptable. Customer service will give you a credit but not the money you have spent on shipping. If things do not improve they will loose a customer and my recommendations to family, friends and groups I belong to. read more

I ordered wine from CHW on June 1st, 2018. I never received a shipping notice. Today, June 11, I sent an email to cancel the order, which still did not show shipped when I looked this morning. No reply to the email. About 6:30 PM today I checked my account again and suddenly I had a tracking number for UPS. The tracking number indicated that my wine was not only shipped but out for delivery today AND that I had missed delivery today. I still have had not one email of any sort from CHW. read more

Do not get involved with this company. We joined last month as quarterly members. They shipped us the wine and asked taht we wait 7 days prior to tasting. We tried 3 different (red) wines so far and they were very mediocre at best. One of them we disposed of because it wasn't palatable. I sent them an email letting them know of our thoughts on their wines. I never received a response back but then all of a sudden, I received a shipping notice taht I ordered and paid for another case of wine. Upon trying to cancel thinking there must be some kind of mistake I could not speak to anyone. I keep getting a recording taht says to go online and email any issues. When i go online it says taht I have to call to get any resolution. My next step is to contact my credit card company to deny charges and to deny any further shipments. I drink a fair amount of Zin. I'm sorry to say the Cameron Hughes Zin I bought is not drinkable. I bought it at COSTCO. There was a promo the day I was in the store, the rep said "this wine is so good COSTCO bought the entire production." I bought. Many Zins are "fruit forward," some more than others. This Zin has no appreciable fruit. It tastes like gin with red food coloring, not just warm; hot. I let it breathe. I've tried it over several days. Awful. The COSTCO manager said "maybe bottle shock" (transit shock) but he agreed to take it back. This is my first experience with Cameron Hughes. I have been a CH customer for sometime. I remember seeing CH himself hustle his wine at Costco some years ago. I like his passion for his product line. A personable guy! Since those days he has added customer service reps to make sure you consider his wine selections. I have been buying from his website to take advantage of various wines not available at the Costcos. Just wanted to add my 2 cents about CH Wines.... (just 2 cents, because CH has the rest of my money...) I have more than 200 CH cabs in the house (about a 1 year supply) and I keep buying because I keep drinking.,.. Seriously, if you are a serious wine drinker, why worry about what it says on the label... these wines are worth 2, 3 and sometimes 4 times the price... I have some older wines, always bordeaux, favorites like Chateaux Batailley (Pauillac) and Chateau Prieure-Lichine (Margaux) and often take these to restaurants (almost every restaurant in Miami does a BYOB corkage fee these days) to enjoy with dinner... and enjoy the CH wines at home and they are every bit as good... Do some research (if you are really into wine) and you can often figure out the source of the CH wines... might surprise you just how well known some of these "sources" are... Wednesday night was an almost 2 inch thick porterhouse marinated in truffle oil and seared in its own rendered steak fat... served as rare as rare can be... with brussel sprouts and fresh bacon bits sauteed in the bacon fat... and Lot 120... a cab from the Atlas Peak region of Napa... and the wine was every bit as amazing as the dinner... Check out some of the "name" wines from that area and then consider the value of dinking something like that for $20 or less... My only CH complaint would be that he's gotten so successful that he comes out with more selections than I can possibly drink... so for now I've limited myself to his pure cabs and these days have to skip the meritage wines he produces... I guess I have to become more successful as well, get more time off, and drink more wine... read more

First of all, a slight correction to John G.'s review - Costco is the only brick and mortar store where you can purchase Cameron Hughes wines, but you can also buy them directly online. It's a couple dollars more than at Costco. Also, there are a few bottlings that are only available online such as the recently released lots 33, 38 and 42. The advantage of online ordering is that the wines are all available in one place (not every lot is sent ot every Costco - some don't get any at all) and you can also defer your shipping to a later date to avoid the effect of heat during the summer. That said, the wines I have tried have represented good value. These are quality wines at a very good price and are definitely worth a try. I bought into the hype of great high dollar wines packaged under budget priced labels. The reviews on his site are extremely positive, touting the values of mysterious wines from undisclosed sources. Unfortunately, the ones I tried (4) failed to come close to the hype. None were worth more what I paid for, and none were better than an average 10$ bottle picked at random at my local supermarket. I can't believe that the condition of these wines is never talked about. The reason there are so many different opinions on the wines is ..half of them are trashed. Sat in hot warehouses or trucks or hot wine stores. That's why people have wine cellars. I don't ( wish I did) have a wine cellar , I do have a 60 bottle wine fridge. but I now only buy wines from a temp controlled store and wines that have been shipped at 56 degrees. Big difference, much fresher, and the wines are from smaller growers ..biodynamic farming. The avg bottle I buy is prob $15 bucks. read more
