At first, it was tough to find - it's in the basement of Frandor near the tanning place. From the second you walk in, you can tell this guy has everything - from fancy light setups for feature TV/films to speakers of various sizes and everything in between. Dave took the time to explain everything very thoroughly because he wanted to make sure our event went off well/we were prepared. During the gear testing, the original mixer was acting up - he rented us a nicer mixer for the same price - a sign of someone who cares about customer service. His prices were very reasonable for quality gear - music, ceremony and speeches were clear as a bell, even outdoors. His detailed hands on explanations made the setup simple and allowed the event to go off without a hitch. He even helped save my dad a trip back to Lansing from Metro Detroit by stopping in on Sunday to allow us to return the gear before heading home. Would definitely recommend them for any event AV needs - Dave cares about his craft and his customers and it shows.

It's quite small, and hard to find - in a strip mall in the Frandor area. The size of the store belies its purpose as a one-stop shop for the amateur photographer. Castle Photo stocks black and white chemistry, film of most sizes up to 5x7, paper, and of course cameras. They also have a consignment section, so if you want to buy or sell an older camera, Castle Photo will help you out. The staff is knowledgable and will advise you if, say, you don't quite know the right orange filter to buy. I've been pleasantly surprised with their answer to any question I come up with. Also, they process and print B/W negatives, and have a darkroom for rent where you can print anything up to a 6x6cm negative. So yeah, they're a great resource. Unfortunately they don't stock Polaroid films, something I love to shoot, so that brings the store down a small notch.
