5 stars all the way! This is a little one screen movie theater and is so cool. They have old memorabilia from when they first opened years ago, and the snack bar prices are probably from about then as well. Movies are reasonably priced as well. I paid less for my movie, popcorn, candy and bottle of water than I would pay for just. Movie at a chain theater! Now yes, you only get one movie selection but it's a fun outing. The owners of this theater also own the drive in on the other end of town. If you're looking for something fun on a weekend afternoon or evening I highly recommend! read more

If there ever was a place in the neighborhood that you wanted to support this is it. Listed on the National Historic Places Register it's a theatre back in time. It's located in the middle of downtown Newberg parking all around and easy to get to. The price is right for a ticket. There is a full concession stand with all the usual suspects and a few other surprises you wont find at other newer theatres. It's the personal touches. The greeting at the door. The story telling and the preparation for the movie. Sure not everyone wants to hear the meeting talk. Entering the theatre is where some of the stars start to fall. The seats are in need of repair. The screen could use a spruce up. The seats that are available are nice and there is not a bad seat in the house. Please support this locale institution. read more

A very intact classic theatre that was built in the 1930's- I was surprised by how many of the original fixtures are still in place. Definitely don't go here expecting the newest, most advanced features; it plays conventional movies and that's about it. However, that is all I am looking for in a theatre so it serves its purpose well. The prices are excellent; I went to a Sunday matinee and it was only $5 per ticket. Snacks are also very reasonably priced and they have a nice variety of things to eat and drink. Restrooms were clean and are located upstairs. Seats appear to be original or close to, as they are very small and do not have cup holders. Not a big deal for me, though it was sad to see a lot of seats falling apart and many of them taped off from usage. The most interesting thing I saw, though, is the uranium painted clock in the theatre itself! I had never seen one like it before, and it gives off a soft glow that isn't distracting from the movie. Lots of parking around the theatre along with food/drink options. Really can't be beat for a nice afternoon or evening showing, after walking around the neighborhood and checking out downtown Newberg. read more

Visited 7/8/24 and watched Despicable Me 4 My almost 15 year old daughter and her 15 year old friend had planned to watch a movie here. This was the first time anyone in our family had gone here so we were unaware of their policy's. My 18 was dropping them off and paying for their tickets and was in line with them when my 14 year old daughter and her friend was asked in a very rude way how old they were. They respectfully responded with their age and the worker said "You can't be here. You need an adult with you unless you are 16 and older." Again, saying this very disrespectfully. My 18 year old said that she was an adult and could stay with them so they could watch the movie. The worker asked my 18 year old daughter what year she was born and after my daughter answered, she told my daughter "good job for answering correctly." Then stated that my 18 would be responsible for my 14 year old daughter and her 15 year old friend when they caused trouble! I understand having policies in place is for a reason but DO NOT treat my children like this after only walking into your business. Not all 14 and 15 year olds cause trouble. You can communicate your policies in a RESPECTFUL way and still get the point across! My family did not deserve to be treated this way! read more

Just a marvelous experience and not only because of the nostalgia; this is the way to see movies. The family who run it in front are very nice and one can tell the stewardship is genuine. 8.5. Stars Stairs up to restrooms are the only drawback for us 70+ Movie buffs. But cleanliness and available loge seats are definitely things I love'. Plus back in the mid to later 50's there was a similar theater in Walker, Minnesota. They showed family friendly movies on Sat. And Sunday, making it a great entertainment spot for our family of 6. read more

I love the Cameo. It is only 5 blocks from my house and I prefer this theater to any others. There is a lot of food and drink options, it is inexpensive, they play first run movies here ( I saw the Hunger Games & Twilight here opening week) plus they rarely sell out. I prefer to support a small locally owned business that a big box theater. Make a day out of a visit to Newberg and have a nice time visiting some vineyards, have lunch or explore an antique store. Well, it is a very cool 1930's vintage theater that has been preserved. Some parts better than others. My first time here (we're new to Newberg). The box office opened at 6:50 for a 7pm show, almost thought they weren't going to have a show. The décor is really the best part of it, down to the Deco water fountain near the concession stand. The inside of the theater has been remodeled at some point, the balcony is closed off and there is an upgraded sound system, and they say an updated screen (it was a very large and crystal clear screen). The mechanics did justice to the show. The seats are original and have never been re-upholstered. They look dirty and are more than threadbare. That said, they were comfortable and the theater was clean - THOUGH NOT AIR-CONDITIONED. There were probably about 30 people in the theater, very open and of course seating wasn't an issue. The 'pre' show consisted of 1940's home movies of a Newberg town celebration - with a little live commentary from the owner. We were then personally welcomed to the theater and the owner went upstairs to start the show. The 1940 era commercials and concession cartoon were cute touches, then the preview and a short that went with the movie (Finding Dory). I only missed a news reel and maybe a cartoon to be a replica of the Bijoux in Wistful Vista. The concession stand suggests it has a large variety, and compared to most chain theaters, it was very reasonable. I was a little disconcerted to see the clerk poor popcorn out of a white plastic trash bag into the popcorn machine (already popped). It was not hot and clearly not fresh. The soda was fine. All in all this was a nice evening at the theater. At least as good as my one time at the "Cineatopia" which makes great promises and can't deliver. This is what is is, and they are proud of it. I took my family to this movie theater for a really fun time at a historical theater. We were very disappointed as soon we walked into the theater to see many of the seats having large gapping holes, and duck tape covering the seats. Was a really pungent smell permeating throughout the theater that was bad enough that with my extreme poor sense of smell could smell. We have decided that we would not be returning back to the theater for these reason. Just didn't feel clean, and not keep up compared to other much older movie theater I've been to through out the other US states. The only pro we had which gave it two stars was the popcorn was really good, the sound quality of the theater, the screen was decent. read more

This is a beautiful little Deco showpiece of a movie theater, and they've been showing films there since 1937. We went there for the first time last night and it's a real gem, if a bit shabby from time. I imagine that in its heyday this theater was truly spectacular. The seats were worn but comfortable, and there isn't a bad seat in the house. It's also a small, family-run business, not one of those we-don't-care chain theaters. Prices were very good and the people were very nice. Popcorn was perfect, and it was nice to find hot tea and chocolate on a cold night instead of the usual soda-only fare I've seen in most movie theaters. Upstairs (if you need the restroom that's where you'll find them too) are some cool things from the early era of movies including a light with reflector. First-run movies, too. Ah, good old Cameo theatre. A staple of Newberg, though not near as popular as the 99w drive-in. However, 5 bones for a first run movie is always a good price to pay, considering how inflated ticket prices have become these days. Now the curious thing about the Cameo is the different prices for seating. Its 5 bones to sit in the old crappy seats with no leg room and 6 bones to sit in the recliners that they have adorning the back-middle of the theatre. The old crappy seats are quite uncomfortable, so I would recommend laying down that extra dollar for some comfort. However, I'm a big guy, so of course the crappy seats may be a bit more burdensome to me than others. Overall, Cameo is a decent experience. They only have one movie playing at a time in the theatre and really it's a cool old theatre that has been around for ages. If you're cruising downtown Newberg at the rediculous speed of 25mph, check to see what's playing at the Cameo. Stop on in, because there sure as hell ain't nothing else to do in Newberg. read more

Oh the dear, dear, Cameo Theatre. It has a special place in my heart. It might not be the most temperature-controlled environment, or have the biggest selection of snacks, or the most amazing screen and sound system, or the biggest cushiest seats, but it doesn't matter. When you go to the Cameo, it's an escape, a little trip back in time. Frequently they will play old film reels before the movies, sometimes footage from Newberg back in the day, or old black and white silent films. It's the only theatre I know of where you can buy a pint of Ben&Jerry's ice-cream, where if you go often enough the owners will recognize and greet you, where they'll play old-school refreshment counter tunes and the seats are worn in and familiar. Yes, on a hot summer day you might be inclined to visit one of the larger air-conditioned chain theaters; but all in all, a movie at the Cameo is a nostalgic experience I'll always favor over others. read more

My husband and I enjoy doing a cheap date night with dinner beforehand at the taqueria two blocks down, dinner and a movie for $35 tops! Not possible in very many places anymore. We have seen a few movies here and it is always fun. The things they show on the screen before the feature are always fun to watch and the admission ticket is super cheap for a theater. The seats are getting really worn down and could use a reupholstering. The popcorn is fair, but they could revamp the food choices. I would go again in a flash! read more

The Cameo rules! Case in point: we recently took our 3 year old daughter to see Wall-E during a Sunday matinee. After waiting in line for 30 minutes or so, someone came out onto the street and told everyone that the show was cancelled, they could not locate the owner. Strange, we've been coming to the Cameo for years. Later that evening, we tried again and saw the show. When we mentioned what happened earlier in the day, the proprieters told us to pick anything we wanted from the snack bar! I picked a popcorn, the wife chose a soda. They offered MORE, trying to give us candy, etc. We politely refused, but it is small acts like this that will always keep us coming back to the Cameo. Try to get this type of service at a Regal cinema. Sure, it is small and outdated, but that is the charm of this place. Family owned and operated, if you want to avoid the steep prices of corporate movie theatres, come support a local family business. read more

The Cameo is a staple of Newberg downtown. It seems that up until recently, they played movies that were out of most theaters and only kids films. It seems that recently they have decided to play new movies even having midnight releases. My wife and I went to see Wall-E this weekend and we enjoyed the movie and venue very much. We have seen a few other movies here but were excited to see them playing new releases. The tickets range from $4-6 depending on the seat and time at which you see a movie (Loges are the best). You can't beat this price compared to the $10 I paid at Regal. Plus the popcorn always seems to taste better here than at the other theaters probably because you are seeing it popped in front of you rather than sitting in a huge popcorn holding container. read more

We love the Cameo. It is reminiscent of the theaters we attended in our childhood. I hope it never changes!

The prices are great and the theater is special, I love the vintage feel and the old commercials. But the seats are in terrible shape and haven't been repaired over the years as they should have been. That alone would make it so that we won't be back. They're torn and stuffing coming out, and lots of duct tape. The floor doesn't look that clean either. It's worth preserving, I hope at some point that they can get some new chairs. read more

This place has been around for ages and is a classic place to go. It's not as expenisive as most movies and it's typically not too crowded. The food is good and has a nice variety of items. It's a nice place to go. The only thing that can be annoying is the squeaky chairs, and sometimes the floors are a bit dirty. read more

We love to bring the kids to this theater because it's cheap and plays the new movies, and it feels like an old-fashioned, historical theater which makes it kinda fun. The seats aren't the comfiest, but the kids don't care about that and the cheap concessions prices make up for it! We always take the kids to the pet store next door afterwards. I love the Cameo. Historic building right at the heart of downtown Newberg. The loge chairs are the best ones to sit in, you get a foot rest, can lean back, and get a little extra room. The recent improvements have really helped the sound and screen, although it does still take my ears a few minutes to adapt to how the sound bounces off the old building's walls. Bathrooms are located upstairs and the staircase, walkway, and windows round out the buildings historic feel. read more
