So grateful we still have a drive-in! My kids and I went tonight and loved every bit of it. The grounds are well kept and there is ample space. Employees are very kind and service is great. There is also a nice FAQs page that helped me get reacquainted with drive-in etiquette and helpful tips. I live 45 minutes out and it's definitely worth the drive. I hope this message reaches someone involved in the drive-in's operations. Tonight, my family decided to visit the Newberg drive-in for the first time. Our 4-year-old son has been excited to see the new Spider-Man movie, and we were looking forward to making it a fun family evening. We don't follow the theater on social media, and since we don't live in Newberg, we aren't familiar with how the entrance line is supposed to form. There are no signs on the road or at the entrance indicating which direction vehicles should enter. Unfortunately, we unknowingly came in the wrong way and accidentally cut in front of other cars. Once we realized what had happened, my husband couldn't safely back up because there were vehicles behind us, nor could he pull back onto the road due to traffic. We only realized we had made a mistake because people immediately began yelling at us and flipping us off. One passenger even got out of a truck, flipped us off, and took a picture of our vehicle. She could have just as easily let us know we had entered incorrectly. While I completely understand that people waiting in line would be frustrated, the level of aggression we experienced was alarming, especially with our young children in the car. Having someone get out of their vehicle to confront another family felt intimidating and unnecessary. As we continued through the line, we noticed other vehicles making the exact same mistake, both ahead of us and behind us, which suggests this isn't an isolated incident. When we reached the ticket window, the employee explained what had happened. We immediately apologized and even offered to pay for the vehicles behind us because we genuinely felt bad for the inconvenience. We were also told that another family earlier had made the same mistake. I understand the need to have procedures in place to prevent people from intentionally cutting the line. However, this experience left our family shaken. What should have been a fun evening with our son turned into a stressful and intimidating situation. We ultimately decided to leave because we were concerned that if emotions were already running that high before the movie, someone might approach us again later in the evening. I hope you'll consider adding clear signs on the road and at the entrance directing traffic. Not everyone follows the theater on social media, and first-time visitors have no way of knowing the expected traffic pattern. A few simple signs could help prevent confusion, reduce frustration, and create a much safer and more welcoming experience for everyone. Thank you for taking the time to read my concerns. Last year on a trip to Florida with Trips Inc. (a travel company where I chaperone adults with special needs) I met a traveler named Jim. Come to find out we live near each other and we both love watching movies. We got to talking and somehow drive-in theaters came up and I mentioned how I had been meaning to go for years. He knew the exact times they open among many other details, more than even you'd find on the website. He and I met during winter, but they didn't open until spring. He consistently checked in with me about times and dates, sometimes multiple times a day. He also wanted to get Abby's pizza beforehand, according to him the best pizza in town. So we did all of that, and I think we both had a lot of fun. I accidentally scheduled this on Mother's Day which was probably not the ideal celebration for my girlfriend but she was a good sport about it. The last time I saw a movie at a drive-in theater was "The Fifth Element" back in 1997; had I known we still had one in our area, I'd have been coming a lot more frequently! Now that I know, return visits are definitely going to be a frequent occurrence! Some friends invited us to see the Godzilla+Kong / Dune 2 double-feature, meaning we ended up staying for over six hours, well into the wee hours of the night! Although they didn't have the wildly inappropriate Dune 2 popcorn bucket, everything else about the experience was awesome! Talk about a blast from the past! For an extremely reasonable price (our ticket total came to $35 for two adults and four kids), you roll on in and find a spot to park your vehicle (closer is better, if you ask me), pop the trunk or tailgate, tune in to the radio broadcast (96.5 FM), and settle in for a long, but enjoyable, nostalgic cinematic experience. The concession stand in the building nearby is similarly retro, with classic monster movie posters, tchotchkes and movie props, an old TV playing the employees' film of choice (Empire Strikes Back, during our visit), and concession prices that don't seem to have changed much since the 90s! Massive popcorn buckets run you $4, $5 or $6 bucks, soda is cheap, and other fun treats, such as a couple of microwaved White Castle sliders, cost you a whopping $3 bucks. Unlike any major movie theater chain, the prices here are affordable enough that taking the entire family won't break the bank! If you're an oldster (like me) looking to relive a classic movie-going experience from your youth and share it with your family and friends, or a youngster wondering what all the fuss is about, 99W is the place to make it happen! So pack up the kiddies, grab some blankets and pillows, and get yourself on down to Newberg, because rain or shine, it's movie time! read more

This place beautifully preserves the vintage feel and aesthetic of the original theater, while integrating modern aspects of a movie theater. So fun! I haven't been to a drive-in since I was a kid, and this was a blast. It was a Sunday night in the summer and the Barbie movie was on, but we still managed to get in less than an hour before showtime (we'd planned to be there sooner but got waylaid a few times). Which was good, because it's a trek from Portland! Prices are reasonable, and there's enough food that you could eat dinner, but you know, snack bar dinner -- pizza, hot dogs, nachos, White Castle burgers (!), etc. My only quibble is that I wish we could buy tickets in advance online, to ensure that the long trek down is worth it! We will totally be back -- with the hatchback, blankets, and dog next time! So many cute pups! read more

This is an amazing place with a great American tradition to live up to. A classic drive in setup, with ramps of dirt to park on. The window speakers are missing and you get your sound though the radio, which can be a concern for the double features since you have to worry about the car battery. They show double features, sometimes first run movies, sometimes classic ones. Usually at the start of the show, the owner asks for people to honk their horns to indicate what movie they'd prefer to see next. The movies do start after dark, though, so in the summer that means it might not start the first show until after 930, with the second one at 1130 or later, so not necessarily a great place for real little kids. I will say though that sometimes you get experiences you'd never expect. My eight year old son absolutely loves giant monster movies, like King Kong and Godzilla. Before Kong vs. Godzilla was released, the drive in showed the original 1933 original classic King Kong. So in 2021, my son and I sat at a drive-in movie theater and watched the black and white Kong Kong, in all it's claymation and puppet glory. It was absolutely spectacular. I went for the first time this last Friday evening, and it was just as magical as my parents recalled!!!! Growing up in the age of Netflix and Hulu, I thought drive-in theaters were all gone. This place truly is a hidden gem! My advice, plan on arriving at least 45-60 minutes early as the line to get in can be long. Bring some blankets and anything else to get comfy. I sat in the back of my car, but a bunch of families had chairs out. I'll be purchasing a battery powered FM radio for my next visit, as a few cars had dead batteries from running the radio for the show. Also, try the hot dog at the refreshment stand!!!! read more

Smooth and easy getting in. Have to say the website delivers all the information you need is right there. Stop somewhere bring your own food in. That's my recommendation. They do have a snack bar. I'm just saying it's a snack bar. It's not a McDonald's or even a diner style kitchen. It's a snack bar. The one downside is you really need to get there an hour before show time to get a spot. I know it was Spring Break but It always fills up this fast according to other patrons. Yes it's kind of a tailgate mentality without the BBQ. People are setting up their camping tables making sandwiches setting up buffets of chips and dip and various salads. Some people were tossing a football around and a game of frisbee broke out. Pretty relaxed amazing atmosphere. Of course mask were worn and everyone social distanced You either hang in your car or walk all around just to people watch. A double feature is the only down side. You can't leave and come back in so be prepared if nature calls or you do need more to eat. It's to the snack bar. Make sure to start your car. At least some time during the movie. Batteries were not meant to be on for three hours straight or however long both movies are. Enjoyable family night. read more

Came here at 6:13. Lining up begins at 6 and it was already around the corner. Okay, no biggie. The current capacity is 200 which is great, but it looks like they were letting more people on past the capacity. People coming in hours later were squeezing their cars between the poles which are only supposed to have one car in each space. We got here early, parked the car, and then had our view completely obstructed an hour later with only half the screen visible as an SUV squeezed in the filled spot in front of us. We were also cut in line while starting the car to enter the lot as the line started moving 10 minutes early. 5 cars passed. Got pictures and plates. I got in contact with a lovely volunteer Crystal (she did not work at the Drive-In, just helps out!). Got the person to change angles so we could see! Also FYI: if you see someone cutting the line, send someone from your car to the ticket booth to report them before they get into the lawn. Get plates! read more

There is a snack bar and they close once the second feature is underway. Great place for the family and the kids enjoyed the experience. Not many more around and if you can catch it next summer be sure to get the gang and make it an adventure! "For $20 cash I'll let you stay as long as you promise not to give a bad Yelp review." Here's how we got here... Our family is hosting a foreign exchange student, and I thought what is more American than watching Grease at a drive-in? I read up online for all the details, as it would be my first time too. I read the part about approaching from the west to queue up, which was the direction from which I'd be driving. I saw that they start letting cars in at 6:30 even though the show would not start for about 2 hours later. First come first served, so we left early and arrived at 6:15. I was following my GPS and we were getting close - I saw that we needed to turn right off 99W in 0.1 miles but then I saw a line of cars stopped on the side so I figured that l was where we needed to be. I saw a line of cars coming in from the side street on the right also, and there was a space for me so I assumed we were doing the usual every-other-car thing and moved into position (signaling, of course). There was plenty of room and being on 99W I did have the right of way anyway. So, we are stopped for a minute when then a man walked up to the passenger side and asks if we were trying to turn right at the intersection or waiting for the drive in. I said the latter. He said well you just cut in front of a bunch of people and that's not cool and I needed to go to the end of the line. I was shocked that he thought I did something wrong, shocked that he felt so strongly that he approached me, and shocked that he would try to tell me to move. He walked away and got back in the car to the right. As you'll read below, apparently he did feel so strongly about it that he contacted the drive in. I told my exchange student well, there's your first rude American! :( The line moved slowly but steadily. We saw the guy get out of his car and go talk to someone in another vehicle. Soon enough we were at the ticket booth and it was our turn to pay. A guy approached and said we were reported as cutting in line and he needed me to leave and go to the back of the line. I was dumbfounded!! I was like what??? I said no I didn't cut, I just moved into an open space. He said "we don't let people do that around here." He was insistent and gestured for me to follow him. Once off to the side he asked me why I did that... I said I was following the normal rules of the road! THEN - he asked if I had any cash. I did, but I waited to hear more. He said for $20 he could let me stay and "disappear into the crowd" if I promised not to give him a bad Yelp review. Jaw drop. When I rejected him he said the line was not too bad and I could just circle around and get in. I said nope, you have soured me on this place FOREVER. We ended up going to Family Fun Center in Wilsonville and had a great time. My money spends just fine elsewhere! read more

He was so enthusiastic and you could tell that he loves his family business. The booth guy here is hillarious! I didn't know there was a drive in theater anywhere near Portland and this one was perfect. We saw the extra scary movie IT and were really impressed by the sound and picture. It's a bit confusing your first visit, so take note: -Bring glow sticks or a way to light your path. -Car lights are FAR bright and disturb other viewers so use them only when necessary. -When using your car's radio, be sure to re-start your engine every 45 minutes. They had a few dead batteries which is I'm sure a regular occourrence when running just the radio. -Bring warm blankets at night. I got pretty cold, but we also watched the movie from a open hatch in the back of my car. Totally recommended for not just new movies, but old ones too like Back to The Future, Ferris Bueler's Day Off and Wizard of Oz. read more

Until today, I had never been to a drive-in movie theater in my 40 years of life. I live in SW Portland, and when I found out about the 99W Drive-In that is roughly a 30-minute drive away, I knew I'd have to check it out. But I've been biding my time, waiting for the right occasion or movie for it. Finally, after months and months of monitoring their facebook posts, the moment finally arrived - The Addams Family 2 - a family friendly movie that my 5 & 7 year old would like and not have to stay up too late since the movie started playing at 6:30 after sunset. We got there early in order to get a good spot and get tickets. Only $23 for the 4 of us - a great price. Then we had our pick of spots, so we found a great one right in front of the screen. I later learned that you're supposed to leave room for 2 cars in between the posts...could probably have better signage for that. What really bummed me out was that we'd hoped to walk down the street and have some dinner before the movie started, but we learned that their policy doesn't allow you to walk out without having to pay to re-enter! With all of us starving, we decided to get concessions, which were pretty sub-par (all packaged). It tided us over until after the movie, but that's my biggest complaint. Otherwise, it was a great experience. I wish 99W would feature more family friendly movies and it would be wonderful if they could also maintain a weekly email so that it's easier to keep track of what's showing. read more

Hey everyone. There is a drive-in theater in Newberg, OR. Apparently only a few Yelpers know about it. Hopefully a few more will know about it after my review. Go show this place some love. There aren't too many drive-in theaters left in this country and we Portlanders have one not a 30 minute drive away. You don't come here for the movies. You come for the experience. A double feature for $8. Sitting outside on a Summer night eating and drinking with friends while watching part of a screen (damn SUV's in the way of me viewing the Smurfs) is just such an American way to spend a night. I'm not sure what that means. Buy some food while you are here. That is the real way this place will stay open. The food is cheap. Hot dogs for $2.50. Popcorn for $3.50. Ice Cream Bars, Chilly Dilly's (dill pickles), Nachos and such. Sadly no soft serve ice cream. That would've hit the spot. It is like stepping back in time coming to a place like this. One of only four remaining drive-ins in Oregon, the 99W is the gem of the four. Owned by the same family since it was opened, the 99W maintains the charm of the drive-in that keeps its patrons returning weekend after weekend. At the 99W you can see two movies for less than the price of one ticket to a Regal! Quite the deal, am I right? The concessions are far cheaper and have a wider selection than that of Regal as well, and you an sit well knowing you have just put money into your local economy as well as helping to keep an American icon alive. Also, you don't have to sit through a bunch of lousy commercials like you do at a Regal! You instead get to enjoy fun and kitschy reels from days gone by that can't help but make you smile and giggle. The staff is friendly, and reminds you to be kind and courteous to those around you. Many families take hatchbacks, which is great, but some need a little help in keeping their hatch down to an appropriate level and the staff can aid in providing twine to keep your hatch at a level so those behind can see the screen. The place is neat and tidy, with trash cans that line the center of the area and the bathrooms are always stocked with toilet paper and towels. I typically preface my reviews with "I'm not a foodie" and then often joke about how I'm instead a service snob and how you don't eat things like Drive In. In the case of a drive in, it's pretty do-it-yourself. I mean sure the snack bar offers a service, and there are facilities and amenities, but for the most part the joy in a drive in is freedom. I have been going to this drive in for over 20 years. I've seen hundreds of films and taken everyone I love to at least one showing. I've lined up hours in advance, picnicked in the driveway and brought animals. It's a wonderful place, run by wonderful people who offer a small service in a classic way. If you ever have the opportunity, I would recommend you go to a showing. read more

Nothing but complaints for me. Drove 40 minutes for this "5 star" drive in experience just to find out that our 2 hour early arrival was pointless. The car line wrapped around the next block... at 7:30! RIDICULOUS! We got stuffed in the overflow parking area with a wonderful view of the people in front of us. I asked the man if he could get off the top of his truck since he was blocking over half the screen, he laughed and said, "I have nowhere else to go." Asked again 10 minutes later then he proceeded to ignore us. At that point my blood was boiling so rather than getting in an argument I went and grabbed a worker. They didn't do a thing. Terrible customer service, outrageous lines to enter and for concessions. Last thing.. bring your own snacks/food. I stood in a 45 minute line. Drive-Ins makes me nostagic! We got there around 8pm and the car line was wrapped around two blocks & more. It took us about 30 minutes to get in and we got a terrible spot all the way in the back. Both side of our view were blocked by side-view mirrors and the glare from the street light was extremely annoying. However, my nieces loved it & so did i!! Drive-Ins are like dinosaurs, they slowly get extinct as time goes by, but ppl don't realize how fun it is to go to one. There were ppl with lawn chairs chiling in front of their car. Others sitting in the bed of their truck w/their pillows and blanket and some just sitting in their car enjoying the comfort of their car seats. My recommendation is to come there around 7:30 pm (no later). They ONLY take cash so make sure you got enough for admission ($7 adults, $4 kids & Free under 2yrs). Bring some lawn chairs if you don't have a truck or an SUV. Get your passenger to walk to McDonalds or Burger King & pick up something to eat while you are waiting in line (its around the corner). Bring some blankets/pillows, someone is bound to fall asleep through the second showing and make sure you have FM radio (96.5) for sound or you'll be out of luck. I'm definitely coming back! Next time i'm gonna bring a truck so i can sleep in the bed of it. It was an experience everyone should enjoy once. Eventually drive-ins will disappear & then you wish you went. =) read more

Seriously, who doesn't love the drive-in? Drive-ins are so historic and are truly innocent fun. You get to watch movies from the comfort of your car, outside on a beautiful summer night, snuggle with your family and whisper without interrupting anyone else, make out like a bandit and no one will ever know, and relive classic Diet Coke commercials featuring Elton John and Paula Abdul. Super fantastic! This place is great. The movies are relatively inexpensive ($8 each for adults, for 2 features), but bring your cash. You need to go kinda early to get the best spot, but that's OK. The beauty of the drive in is to get there, set up the blankets and chairs, grab some grub from the concession stand (which is pricey), or set up your own goodies. The bathrooms at this location are probably the best I have ever seen at a drive-in, but trust me when I say its just a couple steps above a shared sex gas station rest room. So, when my friend surprised me by taking me to the 99 West Drive-In Theater, I was ecstatic! A double feature cost only $7 each - $7 would probably only cover part of a movie fare at most other theaters. We got there just in time for the previews to begin, but we were still able to find a great spot to park despite the amount of other people present. This is an older, classic family owned cinema/drive-in complex. It's right off 99W in Newberg, you can't miss it. You can google this place and the Cameo to get some interesting history. Thanks to this family for keeping Newberg cool. I'll split this into two reviews, the cinemas and the drive-in. The drive-in: Go to the drive-in at least once in your life. One of the last remaining drive-in theaters in the world, it is cheap and fun. Sound is FM transmitted in stereo, just tune your radio in. It is perfect for families, and has a great vintage retro feel. A perfect date or night out. The old-school snack bar has some sweet vintage movie posters. Now the downer: Get here early...very early. The drive-in movies are only shown on weekends, and the people come. Movies begin at dusk, which can be around 9pm; but cars start lining up around 6pm. Plan to be here all evening, and pack accordingly. The cinemas: We've only been inside the cinemas a few times. It is older, but it is cheaper than anywhere else (except perhaps the Cameo down the street). If you are going in the winter, bring a few blankets (seriously), it was OK the last time we checked. The theaters are not heated, but it's fun to cozy up in the blankets and be the only ones in the theater! All-in-all a great little movie joint. It would get 5 stars if somehow they could solve the traffic backup to get into the drive-ins... it has deterred us from going more than once. read more
