I hate leaving bad reviews unless something really strange occurs. In this case, I'm writing to warn you of this place. While it seems kind of comical now that I'm out of there, the Camelot owner tried to bait me into getting mad for some reason. (She acted like the owner; I apologize if this was just an employee.)
I drove my daughter to the alley today for a Storm bowling tournament. As I walked in, the owner yelled at me because I was carrying a transparent water bottle. I understand how businesses may not want outside food or beverage, so I immediately took it back to the car. It started getting weird when I came back inside.
She yelled at me again and checked my daughter's bag. Then she raised her voice to my daughter. Then she followed us around and hovered over near my table when the bowling tournament began and told me how she needed to open my phone to show me how to do something. If you encounter this, I found just ignoring this tactic worked and she went away. (While she was near my table, however, I noticed she did not tell the other woman at my table to take her water bottle out to her car.)
Later, she proceeded to check my daughter's bag another time. When I went to turn in my daughter's scores, she checked the bag again. I thought it was just me, but then even other guests spoke to me about her treatment of me.
I don't know what I did to make her mad - I'll just blame it on post-COVID craziness. Regardless, beware here. It seemed she was trying to find a way to make me reflect her angry state. I don't know to what end; maybe I was just the day's target. I would have bought food and drink, but honestly felt they would have done something to it if I did. Oh well ... to each her own. I wish them the best even though I do not agree with their business model for treating guests.
I told my daughter to bowl her three games and oblige the owner by getting out of there. It's sad we have to deal with this type of craziness in today's world.
If you run into this behavior, please remember that most Illinoisans are decent salt-of-the-Earth people - especially in our bowling alleys. We are normally a bowling family. I don't know what game they are playing here, but I don't think they have much interest in fostering love for bowling. read more
