My Daughter was here a few months ago. I realize now just how poor our decision was, our mistake. Very uncomfortable place to be, unprofessional environment, very disorganized, and a confused staff. We were both shocked at the lack of professionalism exhibited and notable lack of leadership. Staff behaves more scared than empowered and lacks a clear sense of focus, with a couple shining exceptions. Money focused and really nothing is as promised. This is a money maker first, barely a 'recovery facility'. A real estate investment. Embarrassing for the facility and industry and this is corroborated by several others that stayed there---and clearly from other reviewers. Not fulfilling in any way. Absolutely one of the worst situation I was put in after being traumatized already I was told I was going to get ALL my money back if I was not happy with the facility I was told by Hanna and Nina that there was transportation included ( this is the only reason I picked this facility because my neck is fused and I'm disabled then 10 minutes before I boarded the airplane she informed me transportation was no longer included) reassuring me that they would take care of this I was sold Camelback under false pretenses and none of the stipulations of the refund we're explain to me other than at the house table that everything was refundable if I would stay for 72 hours) I hope Tim Westbrook would get a hold of me so I can explain what was done to me so this does not happen to another individual when you're already traumatized and have to go through this it was pure hell. read more

I'm happy for those who feel this place helped them. This was not the case for me. Specifically due to Shelley Matthews. She is extremely unprofessional and clearly not fit to handle potential patients. She was the person I was initially in contact with. I expressed concerns about how it was an out of network provider and I wasn't able to cover costs so I needed reassurance how billing would work. She told me that the recovery program would eat the cost of treatment if my insurance were to deny them, which of course, they would be denied. After a few generic and insincere statements, I said I would attend because I was in a crisis and didn't know what else to do. I should have known that this was a mistake by the quickness she ended the phone calls. Immediately. They sent me to the house (an hour away), then sent me to the hospital after deciding I needed to be under observation, assuring I had a bed. After we got to the hospital (another hour away) the staff had no knowledge of a reservation being made. Turns out they drove me to the wrong place. I decided to call a Lyft and leave. Afterwards, I continued to receive texts and "bills for medication" that I neither received, let alone consented to. When I confronted Shelley Matthews about this she became accusatory and sarcastic in our text exchange. This experience only exacerbated my depression and I do not recommend them. read more

I have never written a bad review. But I felt it was necessary for this business. This place is a scam. You are not provided with the things you are promised. The staff is very disorganized and don't seem to know what they're doing. I am writing this review because I genuinely don't want anyone to waste their money like I did. It is truly not worth it for the outrageous price. Now that I am more acquainted with the area, they're are plenty of other sober livings that are much better. I never truly felt cared about at this place or felt as if I was in a stable environment. With one exception. What Camelback Recovery provides is not just sober living. It provides clients with accountability, great structure, support, a real sense of community, and purpose for living. Through all of that it teaches healthy lifestyles! I personally have seen men and women leave its homes much better adjusted to leading productive lives. CAMELBACK RECOVERY - NOT AS ADVERTISED I enrolled my son as a Resident in Camelback Recovery LLC. After speaking with Mr. Westbrook and reading their website, it appeared to be the program we were looking for for my son following his 30 days inpatient in a treatment center for alcohol abuse. What was promised verbally and by way of Camelback Recovery's advertising was far different than the actual experience. To be specific, Camelback promised: A. "Morning check-in: we begin our day by focusing on goals and motives for the hours to come. This will be a time to clear our minds, enhance our awareness and even prevent anxiety, frustration and/or stress from interfering in daily activities. We also share gratitutes and end the morning check-in with a ten minute meditation." REALITY: What I learned from my son, and verified two other residents my son became friends with, during his 30 days of residency this morning meeting never occurred once. B. "Exercise and nutrition: our weekly agenda will include scheduled sessions of Yoga, spin, cross-fit and hiking, just to name a few". REALITY: I was advised by my son, and verified by two other residents, Camelback Recovery did not provide this service on any regular basis. In the words of one witness, the exercise program was "non-existent". C. "Drug and alcohol testing: to ensure sobriety and safety, we randomly test for drugs and alcohol on a regular basis". REALITY: This may be the most severe and important unmet promise. My son and two other residents verified that they were drug tested on arrival and never again in his 30 days of residency. One of the other residents, who concurred with this, happened to be a recovering heroine addict. In addition, this resident recovering from heroine addiction witnessed another resident using heroine off property while still residing at Camelback Recovery. While not having any drug testing in 30 days, my son did receive a breathalyzer on two occasions during the month but a breathalyzer does not determine if someone used alcohol in the past several days. D. "Evening check-in: before we retire at night we constructively review our day". REALITY: Based on feedback from my son and two other former residents, Camelback had meetings only once a week or so, not nightly as advertised. I paid for three months in advance but based on the above I removed my son from Camelback Recovery after 30 days. I asked for a refund based on the above but was denied. Based on my family's experience, I would advise against anyone enrolling or having a loved one enrolled as a resident of Camelback Recovery. read more

I can not thank Camelback enough. Their program saved my life. I had been to multiple sober living and treatment programs around the country but I could not get sober. The house manager Nina at the time, pulled me out of hell and held my hand while I navigated through my mess. The home was beautiful. Loved the pool and the rabbits & hummingbirds in the backyard. I used to just sit in the backyard at Serenity with other women who were going through the same struggles. We supported each other. Serenity Ranch, Nina and the ladies in that house were like family. A sober tribe. That place saved me. And Nina was an AWESOME cook! I stayed for nine month and honestly I would not change the experience for the world! read more

I would like to share my short and awful experience with Camelback sober living and the "ceo" Tim Westbrook. I think it is important that people know that the quality of service and his business practices are poor at best. When I was in treatment a little over a month ago I toured Camelback sober living with Tim. The house presented well and the way it was described sounded very attractive. When I asked the price I was told by Tim that it used to be $2500 per month including food but he has dropped It down to $1500 per month. I think it was dropped because he could not fill the beds and was also requiring everyone to do IOP now so he would get kickbacks from each person that went to IOP. I was told that there would be all this fresh and healthy food and that they juice and this and that and the other thing. I thought wow this almost sounds too good to be true. Well it was. I moved in and payed $300 for some kind of move in fee, $1500 for the first months rent and also when wiring the money accidentally sent an extra $300. When I moved in there was no food in the cupboard and nothing but a few old vegetables in the fridge. No milk...basically nothing to eat. My sheets were filthy when I moved in. When Tim was doing a house tour in the middle of the day when it was 110 degrees outside he wanted us out of the house. This was suppose to be a supportive environment and comfortable home yet we had to leave the house everyday from 9am till 4pm even if we were not working. I moved in on the 17th paid all that money and then was told that rent was due again at the end of the month even though I had paid till the 17th of the next month and that I had to pay another $1500 13 days after I moved in and that my money would carry over I believe Tim said. I asked multiple times to have that extra $300 that I paid returned yet I got nothing. I decided that this was not the place for me and was not a positive atmosphere for recovery. The person I was sharing the room with at Camelback was surprised to find out that I had paid $1500 for my bed when he was paying $2500 for the same thing as me, same room and everything. I moved to another sober living immediately. Tim has refused to talk at all about some kind of financial return. He wont return text messages, phone calls and he still has that $300 overpayment that I made to him that he said he was going to return. I not live in a place that is half the cost and a truly supportive environment for recovery. I would never recommend Camelback sober living to anyone. It is a rip off and Tim's business practices are very shady. Thank you for the reply Tim! What a joke. You have all the answers dont you. All of those things you said must have just started after I threatened you with a lawyer. You could not even man up and return my phone call or txts. I have been at Camelback Sober Living for some time now. I find the atmosphere to be very comfortable and stabilizing to my recovery. There is always healthy and nutritional foods on hand. There are also healthy/nutritional foods prepared every day by a very competent chef. I find the food to be exceptional. The conditions of living at the facility were explained in detail to me. and a close friend, prior to my entering into a contract. I found Tim Westbrook ( the CEO) to be very forthright and honest in his description of the facility and the requirements for living there. I recently had an excellent experience when I stayed at camelback. I was hosted by tim Westbrook while I was there for a week long intensive treatment program. The food was healthy and outstanding. There were pre-made breakfasts every day and healthy and delicious dinners every night when I came home. I had a bedroom to myself most nights. my bed on first sight was a bit small but it was plenty comfortable and the sheets were clean. In fact the house was kept very clean the whole time I was there. I enjoyed the camaraderie of the other guests and Tim and there was a check in with the group each night which was a comfort. I found Tim very hands on and attentive. I haven't stayed at a sober house before and was a bit nervous but felt at home right away. It was a safe haven for me when I finished my program each day. If I am back in Phoenix again I would definitely stay at camelback. read more

I was a resident at a Sober Living which is located in the greater Phoenix area. My experience was strange from the beginning. I was 19 days clean and in a primary treatment center when my Therapist suggested I go to a sober living house for 3 - 6 months after discharging. After some resistance I agreed to it and he suggested a place called Camelback Sober Living in the Greater Phoenix Area. Apparently he knew the owner and had placed his patients there in the past. I hadn't worked with this guy too long, as I had slept for the first 9 days coming off a two year cocaine and heroin run. I had only met with him twice but he seemed like a cool guy. One thing I didn't appreciate, my Therapist seemed to be selling me on going to Camelback Sober Living. It was like there was something in it for him, maybe a "kick-back??" He was so adamant that it was the place for me, he went as far as convincing my parents and telling them I was being manipulative wanting to look at other sober houses. Frustrated, I ended up going. I arrived on a Friday afternoon and I met the owner, a guy named Tim Westbrook. This guy was sketchy from the beginning, he claims he was sober two years, but I would bet the farm he was drunk or high on something the day I arrived. Also, it turns out that he is buddies with my Therapist, he told me that they worked together or something, no wonder why he wanted me to go there, I am SURE he was getting compensated for me going there. The house was messy, the food was decent but the kitchen and refrigerators were disgusting. There were three other residents and within two hours of my arrival I realized that two of them were drinking and the other was doing coke. That was the first night I was there! I told my parents what had happened and that the place was a mess and I was going to get loaded if I didn't get out of there. They called the owner Tim Westbrook and Tim lied to them saying that nobody was using at the house and everything was fine. I had been there less than two weeks and I had enough! Tim Westbrook told me before I admitted that they would take us meetings every day and they didn't, he said they would take us to go the gym and they didn't, and there was supposed to be staff available24/7 for support, which there wasn't! For $1800 - $2600 per month this place is HORRIBLE and a JOKE. The only time I saw a so called staff member was seeing the owner, Tim Westbrook. When I did see him I could swear he was drunk or high, plus I think he was living at the house and one night he had this sloppy woman that appeared to drunk, she was definitely loud, going in/out of there at all hours of the night! AND THIS PLACE WAS SUPPOSE TO BE STRUCTURED?? I ended up deciding to leave the following day after that took place, less than two weeks of being there. I had only been there for thirteen days of the billing month, and was due a refund of almost $3,000 which included deposits. Tim Westbrook has yet to return my money and my phone calls and emails go unanswered. This Sober Living has NO integrity and I say BEWARE there is NO SOBRIETY THERE!!! I would not recommend Camelback Sober Living to any newly sober men that are looking for a safe, structured, and friendly environment during their early recovery. CSL was a lifesaver for me! After spending 12+ hours a day in IOP every day for 10 days I was so grateful to come home to a delicious, hot dinner every night within 30 minutes of coming in the door. I did not have the mental capacity or energy to fix anything for myself or to do much other than a drive-thru, which I don't really like to do anyway. There was the opportunity to meet and bond with other men in recovery and share our strength and hope. This was nice to do after spending the day delving into my addictions and a painful past. Isolating in a hotel by yourself at night is the LAST thing I would recommend for anyone going through IOP. Tim Westbrook, Owner, held nightly check-ins and each of us was held accountable for maintaining curfews and performing house chores (coffee prep, sweeping front porch, dishes etc). This gave everyone some "skin in the game" and made for a nice division of labor. This structure may not appeal to some that are less than serious about their recovery. However, I found this accountability reassuring and particularly good for me. Breakfast and dinners were all super healthy choices and planned out with input from us. CSL truly took a load off of my mind and allowed me to concentrate on doing what I came to Phoenix for--fixing me. It was also good to have a conversation or a laugh after long days of therapy and Tim is a great facilitator for discussions ranging from addiction to yoga. Camelback Sober Living was an incredible experience for me to re-integrate back into family life. The morning and evening check-ins helped us get to know each other and forged friendships that will help me when needed. Tim is a health nut which complimented my lifestyle and we did many workout activities together. The food was healthy, organic and included in the weekly rates. The house is wonderful, clean and we took pride in our daily chores and routines. The accountability aspect was a little difficult at first but once I got into a grove I was able to workout daily, go to meetings daily, and was able to see the family with flexible and responsible curfews!
