It doesn't appear to be much from the outside but this is a remarkable little spot worth you time to drive to. Everything is made in house, from the wing sauce to the ranch dressing, and you will notice it. Staff is competent, helpful, and no-nonsense. My wife and I are new to the area and have been exploring the various dining options as we travel and explore our new home. On August 3, we discovered the hole-in-the-wall gem known as the Camden Wing Shack. I actually drove past this place the first time before I realized where the restaurant was located. Once inside, we were greeted quickly and began looking over the menu. We settled on two appetizers--the frickles (fried pickle slices) and French fries--to accompany our order of 20 boneless wings; 10 drizzled in the Carolina Tangy sauce and 10 coated with the Crabby dry rub. The portion size of the wings was good, but they were too dry. The sauced wings weren't wet enough for our liking and just teased our taste buds with the flavor. The frickles were just so-so...not the best we've ever had but not something we would order again, unfortunately. We would have liked them had they been seasoned differently. My wife's opinion is that the pickles were sliced too thin for the amount of breading on them. The true test of a restaurant is whether or not we would consider returning to dine there again in the future. For the Camden Wing Shack, was good enough that we would go back again and try different selections from the kitchen. The service was good. We got our order in before the kitchen got slammed by two large orders from other tables that happened to come in around the same time as us. read more

I was looking for somewhere nearby to pick up some wings for the game tonight and this place had decent reviews, so I gave it a try. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside was clean with a nice old school bar vibe, (kinda dark and quiet with a wood bar and plenty of tvs and seating). Definitely somewhere you could come get a quiet drink after a long day and have your choice of a large variety of beers. I didn't want to get my hopes up for a tiny wing place, but the wings were amazing! Seriously, I enjoyed them more than chain wing places. They were pretty big with plenty of meat, they weren't greasy, and didn't have any weird frozen taste. They were actually really flavorful even though they aren't very wet and the skin is super crispy. I was nervous when I saw how dry they were, but they tasted great and you didn't need a ton of sauce for them to be flavorful. Not the slimy skinned and saucy wing I'm used to, but it's a welcomed change of pace. The woman who helped us was nice, the place was clean, and wings were great, I'll definitely come back sometime. read more

My friend and I have evacuated to Camden due to the hurricane and we were looking for wings. We showed up to Camden wing shack with no greeting. Well if you count a nasty side eye as a greeting. Not one employee was in sight for the 25 minutes we were sitting there. I went to the bathrooms which is by the kitchen hoping to see someone. But nope. Went to the bathroom. No lock on the door, and the bathroom was utterly disgusting. Never going back there nor giving a good review on this place. Thanks for the horrible experience. read more

Appearance wise this is just another pub/diner that doesn't stand out on the street...the interior is about the same. But the food...yeah! I've only eaten here once and I plan on returning to try the wings. I had a BBQ sandwich with onion rings on the side. The BBQ was pulled pork, tender and juicy...and piled high on a burger roll. The sauce was good, not quite a typical Carolina mustard, but close enough to make the grade. The fried mushrooms were fresh, beer- battered, and killer! I'd go back just for them. The staff (I mean the bartender-waitress) was very friendly and tolerant of my indecision. They also have craft beers on tap with cold mugs...and any place that has 'Dead Guy' on tap with good wings is okay with me. read more

Updated 7/26/18: It's been a few years since the initial review, and the quality has been consistent. There have been some nice updates to the furnishings in the dining room, and the parking lot situation has improved quite a bit. This remains our go-to place when we want takeout. It has our highest recommendation! My wife and I have been Camden residents for years, and thus we are familiar with many of the local restaurants in Kershaw county. A few months ago, we gave The Shack a try. Since then, it has become our default takeout joint. The menu is your standard sports bar fare, but The Shack has some interesting burger choices, and their chicken wings are superb - easily the best we've had in this area. More importantly, the quality has been consistent, and the staff has always been friendly and professional. If your looking for a quick place to pop in and have a beer and some excellent comfort food, or you want some well-priced takeout that is leaps and bounds over fast-food options, then you can't go wrong with The Shack. While there are great alternatives on the menu, the wings are what really shine at the Shack. The wings themselves are sized well and plump, and are of much higher quality than the pathetically anemic wings you'd get at a certain bar down the road in Lugoff. The variety of sauces and dry rubs available for choosing means that there is at least one flavor that is likely to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. The sauced wings are always super-crisp, juicy underneath the skin, and glazed with a generous amount of sauce that is not too thin or messy. Our favorites include the Terihot, Hot, Vinegar Pepper, and the Honey Mustard. For those not a fan of heat, the Mild wings manage to be flavorful and not bland, despite the lack of heat. The Teriyaki and Terihot sauces are sticky, earthy, with just the right amount of sweetness. The Honey Mustard sauce is tangy, thick, and rich. The Vinegar Pepper sauce is as you'd expect from a good North Carolina sauce - tart with a pleasant jolt of heat. The Hot are peppery and great with an ice-cold beer, and not so intense to the point of unpleasantness. The burger choices, and the execution of said burgers, are also excellent. If Pimento cheese is your thing, then the Pimento Shack Burger, topped with fresh Pimento cheese, will not disappoint. Another favorite in the household is the burger topped with fresh spinach and feta cheese. If you're ravenous and craving meat, the Shack Show Stopper is easily the one of the best things on the menu. A fair warning though, this full-sized patty is topped by a generous helping of honey-barbecue pulled pork, so even a big guy like this reviewer will have a hard time finishing this in one sitting. It is so juicy and flavorful, however, that you'll be tempted to bust a gut to finish it! As a final note on the food, the sides are well-executed as well. The wing chips are fried to your desired level of crispness, and the seasoning applied gives them personality when compared to raw fries from other establishments. As for the service, the ladies serving and tending bar are always friendly and efficient. Even when the place is packed, all customers are acknowledged, and updates are provided when a wait is necessary. Sadly, this competent type of service is not the norm in the modern age, but it certainly is at The Shack. Considering all this praise, there is one important piece of criticism a potential customer should consider. Specifically, the parking lot is borderline hazardous! The lot itself is diet and gravel, but there are no less than a half-dozen deep, wide potholes in it. Worse, when it rains, the potholes are concealed, so one might not know you're about to run into one until it's too late. When you go, drive carefully through the lot, and consider leaving the low-rider at home (pickups and soccer-mom chariots should be just fine!). If you want to be super-careful, don't turn into The Shack from DeKalb (undated, turn at the light and approach from the rear, where the potholes aren't as bad). In conclusion, if you're careful to avoid tire damage, The Shack is a great place for a quick bite, an ice-cold beer, and a joyous gathering of friends. read more

While driving though Camden, saw the previous post so stopped in. My wife and I were looking for a sports bar with good food to see part of an NCAA game. This was the perfect spot! My husband was surprised by their extensive on tap craft beer selection. We both ordered the Pimento Cheese Burger with fries. The burger was outstanding. The fries were perfectly seasoned and so tasty. The service was great and good tv watching at the bar. Don't let the exterior steer you away, this is a great little sports bar. read more

The food here was great! The service was great! I asked whether a wing rub was sweet or salty and she wasn't sure so she brought out a little bit of it for me to try! The bacon cheese fries were awesome! We were just passing through on our way back from a trip in NC and we will definitely come back next time we're headed this way.
