Dr. Camarata and his great PA Michael have gone above and beyond the call of duty with my traumatic leg injury. I was an emergency patient and my entire right leg was broken/shredded and I had a shattered knee. They had to pick out bone fragments from my leg. I'm a 66 year old woman and they fixed my leg by replacing my knee and putting in metal rods in my femur and tibia. That was 3 and a half months ago. I'm lucky I can walk and feel as good as I do. I'm back to work and I'm not using a walker or cane. They took such good care and listened to me and took their time. I never felt rushed or invisible. The office staff is great too. If you need a top rate ortho surgeon he's your guy. Even my PCP said he was great and that I was lucky to get him as an ER patient. read more

If you are considering knee replacement, I would try exhausting every other possibility first. I had a re-occurring large Baker's cysts behind my right knee from accumulating fluid, but had good mobility and no knee pain. I stressed this to Dr. Camarata and his staff. They said because of arthritis, I was bone on bone, a total replacement was the only path. I said I was worried about my ability to work out after the replacement, and they said aside from running, there should be few limitatiions, but that I would be pain free. I stressed again that I had no pre-surgery pain. I had the replacement. I did all recommended physical therapy. Post op examinations report a "very good" result. Still, 2 years later I have some level of pain all the time, and have significantly limited mobility in that leg with no give side-to-side. This affects putting on shoes and socks, or any "normal" movement that pulls to one side. I also learned that I cannot do any exercises where my foot is not grounded, eliminating half of my old routine. In addition, I just had a stress fracture of my knee cap in that leg. I did not hit it or fall, it just broke. This is causing more pain, and shut off much of my activity for months while it heals. It feels like repeating my original post op recovery. I don't think the doctor and his staff do a good enough job explaining the real outcome and limitations after the surgery. I think they replace knees, so that is what they push. In their defense, I did see a second knee surgeon who also pushed for a replacment. I suspect again, because that was his specialty. Bottom line: I have less mobility, more pain, new issues (and more cost) since the replacement. I wish I could go back in time and try other injection therapies etc instead of going with the doctor's advice on the replacement. The replacement has significantly reduced my quality of life. read more

I had a knee revision done by Dr. Camarata back in 2014. The prosthesis he implanted made my leg almost two inches longer than the other. He made no excuses for this and only recommended my getting a platform shoe for my other leg. After three years of hobbling along I am now almost completely disabled from the back pain caused by this. I wouldn't recommend him to my worst enemy. JUST DON'T GO! I'm with all the people said NO STARS would be the best rating! Had a total Knee Replacement in 2/19 and worst experience EVER! Had to self-manage my own recovery because you can never reach him and his office is non-responsive, too. Post surgery, was told by the practice's covering dr on the weekend to go to the ER since I had a fever, never telling me the protocol is to go back to where the surgery was performed (St. Luke's Ortho Floor was GREAT, BTW). So, I went to the closest hospital which was Honor Health Thompson Peak only to be yelled at by the dr on call in the ER why does Dr. Camarata 'dump' all his patients here when he has no privileges!!! I don't work in medicine so I was dumbfounded but they had to admit me because I had just had surgery 3 days prior. Lo and behold, I had a blood clot in that leg! Dr. Camarata was TOTALLY unreachable and all I ever had was his PA, Chris, who you never could reach in person...it was always email...REALLY? In the hospital with a blood clot right after knee surgery? That's IT? My family kept trying to reach him because I was in so much pain and couldn't either. Anyway, we personally managed through that mess, which totally screwed up my PT because no one could manipulate me too much due to the clot, the dr and his office were non-responsive and to this day almost a year later next month, my range of motion is compromised. The icing on the cake was at my 6 month appointment, I finally see the illusive Dr. Camarata who claims he was never told I had a blood clot!!! I thought I would go through the ceiling! I was so mad! NEVER NEVER NEVER consider going to him or this practice. Office looks good but that's about it. A bunch of double talk, everyone covers for each other or acts like they don't know what you're talking about. So rudimentary and unprofessional. There's many better options out there. read more

Dr. Camarata is the consummate professional as well as a real "person". I went to see him about a knee that had problems and injuries for years, I had been told I needed a total knee replacement, but was not very keen on the idea. Dr. Camarata was recommended by my wife's spine doc, very highly, so I scheduled an appointment. The Dr. looked at my X-rays, manipulated my knee and concurred that the knee was in rough shape. He then proceeded to tell me that because of the cartilage and bone problems the angle of the knee was not correct (I had been wondering why it had started pointing toward the other knee); he also explained very clearly how the replacement would be handled, as well as the computer modeling used to create the prosthesis. I said, let's go and schedule the replacement, this after I initially went into the office dead set against the operation. Now 6 weeks after the surgery I am walking normally, no pain and very pleased. What's more, it is a pleasure to see Dr. Camarata, he is a great guy. I cannot say enough about how great this experience was and recommend Dr. Camarata to anyone who needs the job done correctly. read more

Dr. Camarata performed a perfect hip replacement surgery on my left hip that was violently broken in an assault upon me in a local Coffee establishment. I would recommend him to anyone, without hesitation! I would rate his performance as above and beyond expectations. read more

Dr. Camarata never showed up for my appointment. The staff didn't say anything until I approach them. I sat for more than 40 minutes waiting for my appointment and no one spoke to me, let alone tell me the doctor wasn't there. I took time off work and drove over an hour for this appointment. He sent me home from the hospital after a total knee replacement with NO PAIN MEDICaTION. His office did not answer phone calls and requests left on voice mails. Finally, after holding for 45 minutes I got through to the PA who sent in a scrip. I asked my internist but she had to contact Dr. Camaratta first. She tried 4 times and her office tried 4 times as well...never a return phone call. He may be a good surgeon...I certainly hope so....but a horrible person. Proceed at your own risk. read more

You're still a little unspooled from the accident. How did you know your dumbass girlfriend was a pill-popper. She didn't seem high when she offered to drive. It doesn't matter. What matters is how you're now walking with a noticeable limp, and, you're being told you might need a knee replacement. Well Dr. C is the guy to go to if you want a knee replacement. He's the best. If you don't want a knee replacement, I recommend going to Turf Paradise instead. At TP, you can hang out in the paddock area where you'll find any number of stable dudes who'll sell you some phenylbutazone, (bute). It's the analgesic they give race-horses to numb their knees and win races. So two stars for Turf Paradise stable dudes. Another two stars for the pain relief that is bute. One more for the vegetative, mouth-drooling, stand-up coma you'll be walking around in after ingesting it. And finally, a star for you, when you offer to drive your girlfriend to AZ 88 for some martinis Saturday night and wreck into the valet stand at W after driving around in circles for an hour. Where the eff IS AZ 88 ANYWAY, DOES IT EVEN EXIST? And how is it she didn't know you were on bute...that conspicuous stream of slobber running down your chin? All good questions. This guy is a joke. Did a total knee replacement 12 months ago and I'm going to have it done again. Two other doctors said "it's more lose than it should be". What??? What doctor does a total knee replacement and doesn't do it correctly? Total quack. Stay away. Post op is terrible, still have swelling in my knee to where I have a hard time just mowing the lawn. Can't go up and down stairs. At one point Camarata said we are going to treat the swelling aggressively and he prescribed an anti-inflammatory that did absolutely nothing, no follow up from his office. Dr. Camarata was there for me when no other Doctor would help. I had previously had my hips replaced and was in agony. All other doctors told me nothing was wrong. It wasn't until Dr. Camarata got involved, that I got answers. After reviewing my lab work and seeing that my metals were high he knew exactly what was going on. It has been several years after he performed corrective surgery and I am still pain free and have to stand all day for work. I would strongly recommend Dr. Camarata to anyone. read more

I was referred to this office for a second opinion after multiple hip procedures in 10 months. My first office visit was with Dr. Camarata. My second visit was scheduled with Dr Canarata, but upon my arrival the check in asked if I received a phone call to reschedule because Dr. Camarata had a family emergency. My appointment was at 8:45 am, he called out at 7:15 am I was told, and NO I didn't get a call. I drove from the Far East valley for this appointment and NO CALL was ever received. So they placed me with the PA... what a horrible horrible experience I had. The PA had no clue what I was going through and treated me as if I didn't know what I was talking about. He was short with me and could of cared less. Dr. Camarata was awesome but his PA is the worst I've ever experienced. I would never recommend the PA........ he did NOT want to listen to what I was experiencing----. Shame on the office staff for NOT making the phone calls to the patient and advising of Dr Camarata's call out. The staff should have called the first patients on the list and made there way through to the last patient - your staff messed up big time. I don't believe that this practice has the interest of the patient in mind, only stealing money from the insurance company and the patient. read more

I have quite the history with Dr. Camarata. He did 3 knee replacements on me. The 1st one went great...my left knee...he put a unisex knee in...I'm 6'2". The second on, was a Uni on my right knee, which means he only fixed 1/4 of my knee that had arthritis. And, I am remembering asking him why didn't he just put a new knee. He said, the Uni would be fine. Guess what, a year later I was back with as much or more knee pain. He said, "Oh, I guess I should have put in a total knee replacement. The arthritis just got worse." No, duh! So, back to the hospital for yet another surgery. He said they now had knees for women, I told him, I didn't want a women's knee, I wanted the unisex knee and he put the women's knee in anyway, He pretty arrogant like that. After a year, I told him I was having trouble, that I couldn't ride or drive for more than 30 minutes max without being in extreme pain. He said everything was fine and he was not going to do another surgery on me. I told him I wasn't asking him to do a surgery, but to find out what was going on. This went on for NINE years, each year he refused to do even an ultrasound on it. He just kept giving me Vicodin. Finally, I went to Flagstaff Bone and Joint, and Amber Randall, the orthopedist who replaces knees, did an ultrasound and found out the problem in about 15 minutes. The scar tissue had broken off and crystalized and was shredding my quad and they also found a tear in my quad. She referred me to their Sports Medicine doctor, he took care of everything and now I am pain free. BTW, Dr. Randall said it was very unprofessional of him to put in a women's knee when I specifically asked for a unisex. Another tidbit you might be interested in...another doctor I was seeing did a residency with the arrogant Dr. C and said that he would always try to see how fast he could replace a knee. Wow, talk about taking care while doing surgery...not. I recommend you go to Flagstaff Bone and Joint...they are great and egos are in check. So, Dr. Camarata, I thought you were one of the good guys and shame on me for putting on a pedestal. You are nothing but average at best. read more

Not pleased with the care received at all! There have been multiple issues here, but the we tried to give the doctor and this office the benefit of the doubt. We were more than patient and understanding, however after multiple disappointments and failed surgeries, we plan to now seek treatment elsewhere. Dr. Camarata replaced one of my knees in 2015 and I am 5 months post surgery on my other one. He is the best knee surgeon you could hope to have operate on you! His bedside manner is great too. He takes time talking to you and really seems to care about his patients. This is the first time in 40 years I have been pain free in both knees. I started having problems in high school and just lived with the pain. When I first went to see him, he suggested trying injections rather than rushing into surgery. Dr. C. spent time beforehand explaining what I should expect. He uses Health Loop for communication after the surgery so you can have any questions/concerns answered within 24hours. His staff are all very professional and knowledgeable. I wouldn't use any other doctor in the valley for a knee replacement!!! The Physical Therapy Depatment at Ortho Arizona (56th and Bell) is also the best. Jennifer Hahn and her team are so knowledgeable when it comes to rehabbing a knee replacement and other injuries/ surgeries. They are focused on each patient, watching as you do the exercises to make sure you are doing them the right way. There is no wasted time during your session. You work the whole time and they even add some humor to the session! read more
