I have called Calvary intake 4x times over the course of 3 days and provided my insurance and personal information 4x. I am still not in the "system" and no one appears to know what the right hand is doing from the left hand. I'm currently looking at other facilities who may have better communication. read more

****BEWARE**** if you actually have real insurance be cautious of using this facility. They have lots of hidden fees. They rush you through the paperwork while you were in a vulnerable state. Not explaining that you will be receiving bills from doctors that have nothing to do with their facility. I voluntarily checked into this detox on Thursday night for alcoholism. Unfortunately I had to go to the hospital which they made me go the second time for acuite pancreatitis. Without a word or a phone call, they discharged me and would not let me come back. They were supposed to help me get in rehab, but I was left sitting outside for an hour and a half waiting for a ride from my family. They also kept all the meds I came in with and either stole my clothes and fan or allowed the other girls too. They did not even pack my big book. That place really screwed me over. I would avoid it at all costs. Another thing they do is take about three hours to admit you. Two men left while I was there, because they were going through withdraws so bad and getting no help. I will be looking into every single avenue to report this place everywhere. read more

I was in there about a month ago. I will say the nurses and techs were great. What I experienced was the lack of commutation. The right hand never knew what the left hand was doing. I had to watch my meds because I had once been given the wrong meds. Trying to get a answer for anything was near imposible. Like one review stated I felt like I was being kept there against my will, just becase my insurance will pay to a certain date doesn't mean I have to stay there. I was ready to go home and start my life and start my IOP. I was there over forty three days and completed everything that was needed. Anna was my therapist and would convince my insurance company that I need to stay, which was not true. I did note that with my insurance company. It doesn't get any better when you leave and need some paper work completed and now again I'm waiting for a call back from three employees on something important. Over the past three weeks I have left eight messaged and one was to the CEO of this facility. There voice mail all say the same thing, leave a message and we will return your call within twenty four hours. Don't believe it. Customer service is at the bottom of there standards. They have your money so you really don't matter anymore. I do challenge any person who received a message from me to please give me a call. I would to do your homework and shop around. This place fails on so many levels. read more

If someone is going to make the decision to change their life and give up drugs and alcohol, the intake facility would be prepared to welcome them and aclimate them to the facility. These important parts of a welcome plan were never covered on my recent stay. My orientation papers went unsigned. I learned to use the shower, find towels and shampoo all on my own. I also learned how to find the vending machines and find a room where I wouldn have to watch GunSmoke or another black and white thriller from the 60's. The techs were so busy searching rooms that they had little time to help lost clients. Medicine was only offered if asked for. We had access to a refridgerator of baby food and then 3 times a day a dish of shit would be delivered that no one would eat. i Decided to leave after 2 days. I paid for three days in advnance. Calvary has told me that I have to go 30 days before I can get my one unused advanced day credited to my card. Huh? Just give me back my money. Making me think about have Joe from channel 15 stop by and dig in on why they wont refund money for unused services. Net Net, didnt feel the love. Wont be back. read more

If you're willing to spend $$$$ for feely available 12-step meetings, this is your place. That's all you get, over and over, ad nauseum. If you come in trying to heal from a substance abuse disorder that has been used to self-medicate, say, an unhealed trauma disorder or major grief, you are, shall we say, FUCKED. Unless you get the one out of four program therapists trained in trauma, which all addictions therapists SHOULD BE and which at Calvary is obtained purely by lottery vs matching your psychosocial history required on intake. Apparently they don't read it. You are randomly assigned. My therapist, for example, despite my verbalized severe trauma history, was a LASAC. That's an associate level substance abuse therapist, who'd been there 4 years but didn't even have her LISAC, which is at least an independent licensure. That licensure is in no way capable of working with complex trauma. And she was absent 1/3 of the small group (actual therapy) sessions, so there was no continuuum of care, and most of her absences were during Grief Week, where you do your most in-depth work. As a therapist myself, I am appalled by the "treatment" offered at Calvary. I would not recommend it to ANY of my clients. What was therapeutic were ALL of the behavioral health techs (BHT's) and unit casemanagers (Rachel, Carmel, Cole). And most of the RNs. They actually gave a shit what was going on with you. They work hard with little positive support or monetary return, they are truly commited individuals. I would have to say that without them, I wouldn't have lasted a week. Oh yeah, and the yoga practioners. Thank goodness for the yoga, in the grass, under those magnificent trees. read more

I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. If I could get this place -5000 reviews I would. This place is so bad I don't even know where to begin. The facility itself is in a horrible location. The premises are so dirty and overall the most unwelcoming place she would ever want to send anyone that you love!!! The pictures are lie. Their prices are horrendous for what they actually offer. We paid $4k for one month. This is obviously way more than what you would pay for one months rent somewhere and hopefully you would get so many other bonuses for this price. Calvary was only a place where she "slept" and they gave my sister more pharmaceuticals. This place has nothing to do with actual rehabilitation or anything positive. On top of it we have been requesting a letter that she attended for two weeks and the "secretaries" a.k.a. chicks who just watch YouTube all day won't do shit. I HIGHLY DO NOT recommend this place. I would 100% recommend Jerry as a therapist if you get the opportunity to do residential. I would also recommend doing detox, residential, php, and iop. It's life changing. Went there for the intensive outpatient program. They really tried to sell me on detox, though I had already taken care of that. They didn't care. The program meets for three hours, three nights a week. I went to one, and that was enough. Everything is scripted. Almost as if participants just spit out the words on the script and create new words for emotions they did, or did not experience. As far as faith based goes, there was an opening prayer, scripted of course, and a hands in "Go God" cheer at the end. Very moving. In addition to the program, one is supposed to attend AA three times weekly, and complete the 12 steps. I never figured out that with AA as additional, what Calvary was actually providing. I bailed after the first session for individual therapy. One more; communication is non existent there. Good luck read more

I honestly have no idea what some of these negative reviews are talking about. If you are looking for a fancy place that won't hold you accountable, this is the wrong place to look. This is where go if you or your family need to get sober. This place was a miracle for me and my family. Unfortunately, my family has had to experience multiple treatment centers. This was one of the best. The staff really cares for the patients and our chance at recovery. This place does not have the horses or personal chef that some other places have but it has an incredible program and even better staff. The techs were the stars for me. They were so available and i related so much with them Even the management took time to interact with us personally. For me there is no better place to start getting sober. I can't believe the runaround we got from this facility. My nephew in desperate need of alcohol rehabilitation was turned away 3 times. The first time, they sent him to John C Lincoln hospital for detox. The hospital did a terrific job and discharged him recommending he enter a recovery program. We returned to Calvary a second time and they demanded he enter a physical therapy program before returning (even though the hospital cleared him). So...we checked him into physical therapy at Desert Terrace on 24th. After one day, my nephew checked himself out as he was quite capable of physically getting around. In addition, he was concerned about his personal safety at the nursing facility. We returned to Calvary a third time and they turned him away. Do you have any idea how hard it is to have someone in need feel like the recovery center doesn't care about them? For gods sake, what the hell do you exist for? I would never refer anyone to Calvary. read more

Before checking a family member into this place I had thought I had done my research. BOY was I WRONG! If you're going to find the bad, I've learned, you need to go as far as pages six, seven or eight. This company is very good at getting their "good" reviews to the top of the search engine so you don't find any negative ones. Let's start off by saying we spoke with the front desk receptionist several times trying to make sure that my family member and the family in general was prepared. Before arrival they had taken all of his personal information such as date of birth, social security number and insurance information. They ran his insurance and said that he was approved to check into the facility. Not once was I told to bring my family members insurance card. We had to sit in the facility for about three to four hours while they made a big fuss about the insurance card not being present. Finally after agreeing to pay out of pocket until the card arrived in the mail in two days they were finally able to all calm down. So after checking him in and talking with several individuals at the facility I still for some reason received a call from the SAME nurse who checked him in about the insurance cards. For some reason he forgot the whole ordeal in less than 12 hours. Before checking him into the facility I asked about the detox process and if my family member would be REGURALY drug tested. The women assured me that he would be on medication and a fluid IV until detox was over. Both of what she told me was false. My family member was NEVER on an IV fluid drip and the regular drug testing was untrue as well, after 8 days in the facility not ONE test had been done. Come to find out they only do drug testing if they find something suspicious going on. That is NOT what I was told before checking my family member in. They are also given times that they can use the phone. After my family member was speaking to his FATHER the phone line went dead. Later on come to find out one of the nurses just cut the call off because there was a meeting with the counselor in 30min. I find it extremely disgusting the way they treat their "clients". The nurse NOT once said ok 1min left say your goodbyes or anything at all in a polite manner instead the line just cut off. After the nurse disconnected the phone he stood there laughing at my family member and one other individual that he also did this to. Let's move on to the showers. You know a place where ya like to get "clean". You will NEVER experience a clean feeling in this facility. If you do decided to still go here, bring a pair of sandals. There is sperm all over the shower walls and floors that isn't cleaned off. The well-known name there is "shower babies". Pretty gross trying to shower in sperm. If you explain to the nurse that it's gross they shrug it off and say "WE ARE OUT OF SANDALS" ..... Can't make this up! What's even more disturbing is after these sperm showers the men come out and hoot and holler and bark and scratch their feet on the floor like a feral dog at the women staying in the facility. So if you're even an average looking women walking into this facility, you're going to feel sexually harassed. Men will even drop notes in the trash cans in hopes that a women will pick it up, meet them in their rooms later that night and I guess make some "bed babies" aka what the staff calls "rehab relations" Next thing that's pretty disturbing is personal property is commonly stolen. When brought to the staff's attention it's a "too damn bad" attitude and "just get over it". So make sure not to bring in anything you would be upset about losing. I'm even speaking about your dirty boxers, dirty socks that you've worn..... THEY WILL GO MISSING! Next let's talk about the cafeteria. My family member was almost purposely exposed to the stomach flu. There was a known individual that had it for ten days. Where did they place this flu ridden individual for chores? THE KITCHEN TO DRY THE DISHES! So basically any dish he was drying he was passing on the stomach virus. Yum yum! Eat up! After my family member was done with detox he was trying to get some rest in his bed. A nurse came in and started jumping on his bed and being extremely loud and just down right annoying. The way the staff treats the people who come in for HELP is disrespectful and disgusting. They took the job to CARE for people. These people checking in are trying to get well, trying to better their lives and move on to a much better place in life and actually have a future worth living. The staff just belittles. I would never in my life recommend this facility to ANYONE!!! When my family member tried to speak to his therapist, counselors and staff about all of these issues, none were addressed. They actually OPENED (no joke) the front door for him to just walk out! read more

They test for covid upon arrival. You have detox separate from residential but same location, and you are allowed the phone daily! After detox you move to residential and start a program with round the clock classes and 12 step meeting! Nurses distribute your meds and name them as the open bubble pack! You are assigned a therapist/case worker immediately, and psychologist if you dual diagnosed! They have a smoking patio if that is important to you! Almost all staff has been in treatment making them empathetic to you and your needs! Staff treats you very respectful! Alot of outside rec therapy comes in such as yoga, retired nfl player for work out, drum therapy, puppy therapy and such! They allow FaceTime for all residents Saturday and Sunday! I was very mentally unstable upon arrival and struggled with my moods for 3 weeks but learned so much in classes! When they realized my mood was not stabilizing they advocated for me to get outside mental health before leaving! They were very concerned with me leaving with all the tools I needed! read more

I used to recommend Calvary to others but it has recently gone downhill. Bed bugs are an issue and are not being taken care of. For Christmas dinner, clients were provided sandwiches and there weren't enough to go around. Some of the caring staff used their own funds to purchase pizza. I believe there has been a change of leadership and that's part of the issue and many staff are leaving. Terribly sad as this used to be a wonderful place for individuals to start their recovery. read more

Their detox program used to be great a few years ago, but it has changed drastically for the worst. Now it has turned into a nightmare. They give you a "schedule" of group events as well as your "counselor's" name when you first check in - however the group events never happen and you see the counselor only once. When you do see the counselor, it's to SELL you on their 30 day residential program (another $15K in their pocket) and the moment you tell the counselor you're not interested, he/she is done with you. There is no daily counseling, and the "scheduling" group sessions don't happen unless one of the techs decide to hold one. During my 5 day stay, only 2 group sessions were held and only in the evening DURING medication time. Now for the nightmare - the entire time you're there, they drug you to the point where you sleep all day (or sleep and smoke cigarette after cigarette out of boredom), and keep you on Subutex and Phenobartetol - both of which you WILL withdrawal from when you leave the program; leaving you to wonder why you paid $4K in the first place for a comfortable detox. The nurses are so mean and disrespectful. The techs are nice and cool, but that hardly makes up for the horrible experience as a whole. There is no support, no counseling, and very few group sessions, led by techs who are recovered addicts themselves and simply read out of the AA book. I would recommend using ANY program except for this one. The funny thing is, when my mom gave this feedback to the CEO, he himself stated that I was "being dishonest" and shrugged me off as a junkie or a lier because his "staff" informed him otherwise. This was incredibly hurtful and wrong. A good CEO would not only more closely monitor the actual detox program and his staff, but ask other patients what their experience was - which I guarantee would be the same as mine since we all talked about how horrible it was while in there. Maybe then it would shed some ACTUAL light on what the detox program has become at Calvary: A very sad waste of money and time for any addict looking for help. To the CEO who called me "dishonest" - I spent time giving honest feedback in order to help you understand what your program entails. Despite what your staff is telling you, this is the truth. I'm a graduate of business from the U of A and run my own successful company. Feedback like this is GOLD to me, and when people take their time to give it, I listen. I hope you do the same one day. Ask yourself: why would I lie about any of this? The first time I attended Calvary was wonderful, but that was 2 years ago and your detox program has drastically taken a turn for the worse. I'm sorry if you feel that I'm being dishonest, but it's your loss if you continue to blindly listen to what your staff tells you - of course they don't want to get in trouble or be reprimanded and of course they're going to tell you what you want to hear. Talk to other patients! To everyone else - do yourself a HUGE favor - do not attend this detox program. There are many others out there in Phoenix that are much better. read more
