I swung by as I was in the area. It's a great visitor center with three floors of informative exhibits and a gift shop on the first floor. The NPS rangers are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. If you have kids, there's a room full of kid-specific activities for the younger ones.
The center was actually closed the first time I visited the UP two years ago, and so instead I took the Quincy mine tour. If you're claustrophobic or don't want to do the tour, I would say that this place covers a lot of what they present in the tour (minus actually being in the mine and having demonstrations, and some more mine specific things). The visitor center also holds a daily one hour tour with varying subjects, from geology to the history of the town. Don't miss it! read more
