We did not want to break any rules so we decided to try to find a last minute place to sleep. Luckily, we found a place right in Houghton. We got to pass by a beautiful water front and a mini bridge. It was quite beautiful and I definitely would love to visit the city again. The inn was safely following protocals for Covid. We got our room key and went to our room. The pool room was open, but only a certain amount of people were allowed in at once. Luckily, it was super late so no one was in the pool area. We decided to stop by the jacuzzi to check it out. The room itsef was super clean and comfortable. It was definitely worth the price. I enjoyed our night stay. I would come back again in the future.

The bathrooms have quality fixtures and an upscale decor. A good night's sleep was had in the quiet room and large comfy bed. In summer, we were able to take a nice hike on the trail and in winter, direct access for snowmachines is plus. My experience during the last stay has convinced me that I made the wrong choice in picking the Holiday inn Express. Although check-in was fast, the room we were given had a view of a rock pile, and the clock did not work. Had to ask for another room. Was given a room with a nice view. Second day, housekeeping never came to our room. When I asked the clerk about it was told they left for the day. Had to ask for a new room. Given a room with an upgrade (or so I thought). Upgraded room had serious problems with the toilet- appeared partially blocked. Fortunately we were out of there the following day. In all three rooms, the chairs squeaked, and beds seemed like they were from a flophouse. TV didn't even carry ABC. Breakfast was OK - the cinnamon rolls were the only bright spot. The front desk clerk was very helpful despite the circumstances. Never used the pool - but looked like it needed a resurfacing. Learned my lesson - Country Inn and Suites - next time. Hope its better than what I just experienced.

There is a complementary breakfast included in the dining area which was fantastic including fresh waffles, breakfast sandwiches, muffins, cereal, eggs, OJ, yoghurt, great coffee and more. Great seating area outside with multiple piers and benches. The Lobby was very nice too! Now why only 4 stars? (Considered 3 stars) The rooms are set up with the sink outside of the bathroom by the door with no toilet lid, so using the restroom and trying the change is quite challenging (light switch also on the outside of the bathroom) That was just an FYI.... The downside/weird experience was the housekeeping. When we first got into the room, all seemed well until we checked out the toilet and the prior occupants sh*t stains where in there. We asked the front desk to remedy, and the manager on duty told US to catch housekeeping in the morning. The next day, we did, and showed the employee what was wrong and actually tipped him $5 because we felt bad he had to clean it. When we got back to our room hours later, the sh*t stains were still there, the beds were not made and nothing cleaned.... only the garbage has been taken. We stayed 4 nights and NEVER got any room service and had to ask for more toilet paper and clean towels - even though the housekeeping team was up and down the hallway each morning when we left for the day. (We did not have a "Do not Disturb" sign on the door) when we finally said something the third night to the front desk, the manager on duty basically shrugged and said "Good help is hard to find" and gave us more towels and toilet paper. I have been to many hotels and have never experienced what occurred at this place. It was the strangest thing and obviously they cannot manage their housekeeping staff. I want to say that we will be back, however the lack of support and attention to basic housekeeping and responses from the front desk was weird and off putting.
