Sadly, when we arrived the person that did camp there misinformed us as there are signs that tell you not to publically camp at the site. We did not want to break any rules so we decided to try to find a last minute place to sleep. Luckily, we found a place right in Houghton. We got to pass by a beautiful water front and a mini bridge. It was quite beautiful and I definitely would love to visit the city again. The inn was safely following protocals for Covid. We got our room key and went to our room. The pool room was open, but only a certain amount of people were allowed in at once. Luckily, it was super late so no one was in the pool area. We decided to stop by the jacuzzi to check it out. The room itsef was super clean and comfortable. It was definitely worth the price. I enjoyed our night stay. I would come back again in the future.

My experience during the last stay has convinced me that I made the wrong choice in picking the Holiday inn Express. Although check-in was fast, the room we were given had a view of a rock pile, and the clock did not work. Had to ask for another room. Was given a room with a nice view. Second day, housekeeping never came to our room. When I asked the clerk about it was told they left for the day. Had to ask for a new room. Given a room with an upgrade (or so I thought). Upgraded room had serious problems with the toilet- appeared partially blocked. Fortunately we were out of there the following day. In all three rooms, the chairs squeaked, and beds seemed like they were from a flophouse. TV didn't even carry ABC. Breakfast was OK - the cinnamon rolls were the only bright spot. The front desk clerk was very helpful despite the circumstances. Never used the pool - but looked like it needed a resurfacing. Learned my lesson - Country Inn and Suites - next time. Hope its better than what I just experienced.

I didn't find out till the next day (when we finally arrived) that the lady's name is BRANDY (I hope I remembered correctly). When I did arrive at the hotel she was the best. She got me checked in and made sure that everything was up to expectations. The hotel was great. It was above clean and comfortable. The bed was comfortable. They actually had a helicopter in the parking lot. We decided to get on the helicopter and take a short ride over the water. We ended up crossing the road and walking up to see the Bridge Fest parade. When we got back, we decided to go swimming. No one was at the pool. It is open until midnight for adults. We also got some breakfast in the morning. The food wasn't too bad. We enjoyed our stay. Our room was clean, bathrooms were clean, and the pool was clean. We would definitely come back again.

(Considered 3 stars) The rooms are set up with the sink outside of the bathroom by the door with no toilet lid, so using the restroom and trying the change is quite challenging (light switch also on the outside of the bathroom) That was just an FYI.... The downside/weird experience was the housekeeping. When we first got into the room, all seemed well until we checked out the toilet and the prior occupants sh*t stains where in there. We asked the front desk to remedy, and the manager on duty told US to catch housekeeping in the morning. The next day, we did, and showed the employee what was wrong and actually tipped him $5 because we felt bad he had to clean it. When we got back to our room hours later, the sh*t stains were still there, the beds were not made and nothing cleaned.... only the garbage has been taken. We stayed 4 nights and NEVER got any room service and had to ask for more toilet paper and clean towels - even though the housekeeping team was up and down the hallway each morning when we left for the day. (We did not have a "Do not Disturb" sign on the door) when we finally said something the third night to the front desk, the manager on duty basically shrugged and said "Good help is hard to find" and gave us more towels and toilet paper. I have been to many hotels and have never experienced what occurred at this place. It was the strangest thing and obviously they cannot manage their housekeeping staff. I want to say that we will be back, however the lack of support and attention to basic housekeeping and responses from the front desk was weird and off putting.

Portage Lake Cabins went above and beyond in every aspect of our stay from booking to check out. Rachel was super helpful with helping me book our stay, she was incredibly responsive and answered all my questions. The cabin itself was SUPER clean, smelled nice, and had all the comforts of home including a nice (and clean!) gas grill. We spent the week admiring the gorgeous views, taking in local hikes, a beautiful drive up to copper harbor, and just enjoying the beauty of the water.

We stayed here on the night we got back from the island as well, and saw some folks we had met on the island doing the same. The shower was much-appreciated after 3 days of backpacking! For a Super 8 I was honestly quite happy with the experience overall. Rooms have been (relatively) recently renovated and were clean. There's a nice patio / deck out back with picnic tables along the water, and a nice walking path along the water that will take you to the main stretch of Houghton shops and restaurants. We had an almost-snafu where somehow my reservation for 2 rooms was "put together into one room", but the staff were able to quickly resolve this and get another room together for us within a few minutes. Breakfast is nothing fancy - about what I expected as far as continental breakfast. It does the job. They had more tea flavors than I expected, actually.
