My grandmother was under the care of Calstro Hospice for just over a week and in that time frame everyone was absolutely amazing. We had an amazing experience. As a RN myself it was the first time dealing with Hospice and seeing the ins/outs. They truly made sure we had all our needs met and made sure my grandmother was comfortable, they went above and beyond. Erika our social worker was absolutely so amazing! Peter the LVN was great! And also her shower aide Marisella was truly an angel. My grandma opened her eyes at the sound of her voice moments before she passed. It's those connections and that true love of what you do that makes a difference. I saw that with this entire team. Our family thanks you! read more

After having a lengthy discussion w the dr. Regarding my loved one's and of life care, I show up the next morning and the exact opposite had been done. My loved one was taken OFF anti-anxiety meds and left on blood thinners and was FAR from experiencing "comfort care." Made a fast change, and he is so much happier now! read more

Calstro Hospice has been nothing but phenomenal to our residents and team! There response rate to families and our team is 10/10. They have amazing nurses who really care about their patients. Hospice is a tough decision that many families make, with their education and responsiveness, families never regret it and are 100% pleased with the decision they have made. If you or your loved one need to make a decision about hospice I highly recommend considering Calstro as your choice. JR and his team will always be at your service! read more

Calstro Hospice deserves nothing but condemnation for the horrific care my mother-in-law received during her final days. As a hospice facility, their role is to provide comfort and dignity--but instead, they subjected her to unimaginable suffering and negligence. My mother-in-law, battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer, was left in agonizing pain due to their gross mismanagement of her medications--not once, but twice. Their lack of communication among staff caused her to endure medicine withdrawals, which worsened her condition rapidly. When we tried to advocate for her, they accused us of stealing her medication--a baseless and cruel accusation. We had counted the pills and knew exactly where the issue was: they weren't communicating about dosage increases. The pain they caused her directly contributed to her rapid decline. She couldn't eat, couldn't move, and was in so much pain that even a gentle touch was unbearable. She lost all dignity, forced to endure accidents in bed because she physically couldn't get up. No family should ever have to witness their loved one suffering like that in what should have been a time of peace. We fired them and took her to the hospital, where she passed just a few hours later--finally free from the agony that Calstro Hospice inflicted. Their failures are inexcusable, and no one should entrust their loved ones to this place. Families deserve compassion, professionalism, and care in such vulnerable times--not negligence and disrespect. Stay far away. read more

I have to say, I have used 4 hospice services here in the high desert . It wasn't until I seen Kelli B. In action with patients that I chose that Calstro was the best for our Dad. When I first hired on Calstro I wasn't to sure about there services . Once we was able to get Kelli B on for our Dad we couldn't be more happier . Very caring care and loving , quality of care exceeded my expectations once Kelli and German were our team . In my opinion Kelli and German both are a huge asset to Calstro. Eva as well has been very caring . I have experienced a few others I was not in any way shape or form happy with but once we got the team we have now I do not have a complaint one . Way to go Kelli and German just know we appreciate you with the utmost respect from the bottom of our hearts "The King Family" read more

Calstro employs caring, kind, compassionate people. This company cared for a friend of mine. I was there frequently and I witnessed the caring of those who visited my friend. There are 3 individuals I would like to mention: Kelli what can I say except this what an amazing, compassionate, skilled nurse. She always was positive and did her job every time I saw her. In fact she went over and beyond. Thank you so much Kelli!!!. Sandy you have a job that takes a special individual. You are that special individual and I thank you for all that you did for my friend. German your compassion shined! Thank you for you read more

Calstro Hospice went above and beyond in taking care of my grandfather. Their liaison May, is charismatic, charming and compassionate. She truly went above and beyond and helped us every step of the way during an extremely difficult time. Their nurses were quite knowledgeable and anticipated my grandfather's needs before they were even know. They were always available when we needed them and certainly exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend them. read more

I had been working in the memory support unit of an assisted living facility for 4 years and Calstro was by far my favorite hospice company to work with. I would get quick call backs, med refills asap, and anytime I request a visit for a resident they were extremely prompt. The families love JR. He truly cares about his patients and provides the best support to the families. read more

Like Steve A. (post from Sept 2023), my dad was under Calstro's care while at Westmont of La Mesa. He had numerous medical issues, including blindness, congestive heart failure, and a catheter. Kaiser OK'ed hospice because he would call 911 anytime his lungs filled with fluid or when his catheter was blocked. Calstro cared for him for over a year until he passed in Oct. 2023. Steve A.'s review says it all--I agree with everything he wrote. JR, in particular, was outstanding. He was able to gain the trust of my dad so they could change his catheter in his room, rather than take him to the ER--those journeys were really hard on him. The other staff I met or talked with were also great: Danielle, Mark, Tiffany, Selena & Kathleen (I may have missed a few & my spellings may be wrong....) Thanks you to all! read more

Calsto Hospice provided hospice care for my Dad at Westmont of La Mesa between April and June 2023. They were FANTASTIC. They were conscientious and kept me advised of all medications (including for pain), their possible side effects, any changes to the treatment plan, and so on. JR in particular was so compassionate and helpful. They always took or returned my phone calls promptly. All their nurses and staff who came to care for Dad were kind and professional. It seemed like there was always someone there; though at times it was the Westmont care team also. Calstro worked seamlessly with the Westmont staff. Can't say enough about how happy I am that I chose Calstro for our Dad. read more

In December of 2016, our son was diagnosed with Glioblastoma. After many months and several different kinds of treatments, it was time to look into Hospice care. In August of 2017, we were introduced to Antonio "Tony" Espinoza. When he first visited our home to meet with the family to explain the process, we were grateful for his kindness and honesty. Those characteristics defined the care our son received, as well as how the family was treated all throughout the process. We will forever be grateful for the care and compassion Tony showed Michael during his final days. It brought great comfort to our family knowing how much he cared. It takes a special kind of person to work with a family during hospice and we found that in Tony. The Haglund Family read more

Our grandma Clamencia P. was placed on hospice so we went with Calstro until she passed a couple weeks ago, and I have to say it was a great experience from the very beginning speaking with Brent to get everything in order, to speaking with Andrea on a regular basis about my grandma and her wishes or needs but what stood out the most was the amount of care, love and support that was received from her Nurses Kelli B. and German M. we could not have asked for more professional, knowledgeable and compassionate staff than those two, Kelli always went above and beyond to help and answer anything we needed answers to as well as to let us know that we were doing a great job as a family to care for grandma, it was with their help, advice and guidance my grandma got the best treatment and care. also her CNA Christine was amazing as well! we really couldn't have been assigned a better team! read more

Calstrol hospice is outstanding!! I highly recommend! The love, the passion, the information, the genuine care given to my special needs daughter ( 35 yet the mentality of a sweet 6 year old) was off the charts. They are wonderful. They know their stuff. They are there when you need them. The nurses are the best. The CNAs are the best, managers are nurses too. I'm a single mom and they were there for me as well. ( I was with another hospice before Calstro, I seeeee the difference). Calstro is the best. Thank you all for your beautiful care read more

Calstro moved mountains to make care available for our family. They handled all the administrative tasks, transport, care, end of life, they are absolutely wonderful. BJ, Ty, Toni, Kathleen, everyone working on our families behalf. I can't say enough good things. Thank you so much. God bless. Patty D read more

Their staff members were found to be kind, gentle and caring. My mother-in-law was on their service over a year and most of the care given was timely and effective. This is not an easy job and not just anyone can do it, nor do it with grace, so I give much credit to all the staff to have the knowledge and character to be able to love in difficult times and to do the difficult things... with compassion. Covid made this job especially difficult as well, but they persevered in getting care to all those in need putting themselves at risk. My mother-in-law was never vaccinated and through it all, never got covid. I recommend them to all I know who are in need of such care. read more

I thought some of the nurses were insensitive. A common phrase I heard when I spoke with them over the phone is "there's nothing else we can do." When you have a dying loved one and that's what you hear from those who are supposed to provide support, care and comfort, it's discouraging and emotionally depleting. Avoid using this hospice agency, if at all possible. read more

I am so thankful for Calstro Hospice. What an amazing team of people. Bj and Ty working until we achieved the objective, care for my parents where it would suit them most. Toni, Kathleen loving and caring for them with kindness and compassion. Others whose names I do not know. I will not be able to put in to words all that this team did on behalf of our family. They made a miracle happen. God bless you all! read more

There are no words to express how much Pacifica appreciates the work of Calstro Hospice. There is not one person I can complain about-- every single person with whom we come in contact is compassionate, helpful, and kind. It takes a special kind of person to do this type of work, but alas, not everyone is cut for it. Calstro is very responsive, includes the family and staff in all care. Calstros staff is committed to caring for patients with genuine concern! So kudos to Oscar and Alex for starting this company with such wonderful staff, you all do the work of angels, and we cannot express our gratitude enough. Thank you Calstro Team for all that you do! read more

Very grateful for the care my Mother received. In a most delicate time they were incredibly kind and thoughtful of our families feelings. They continue to reach out and check on me 3 months after her passing. I highly recommend them for your loved ones. They were also very patient with me as far as billing due to hold ups with her medi-cal application which was most appreciated. Thank you again for your support. read more

My mom was in late stages of ovarian cancer when I called Calstro Hospice for their help. We were using a different hospice company that was a horrible experience. Calstro Hospice came to meet us the same day I called and made the transition so easy. I knew right away my mom was in great hands. Her nurses were so amazing. They did their job but also we're loving and caring and became my moms friends. They also became friends to my brother and I. Seeing a loved one slowly dying is so painful but having a hospice company know how to help, what medications work best, and giving us all the advise and tools possible made things easier. I can't say enough about Calstro Hospice and If u are looking for the best nurse and CNA ... Tracy and Maria are it !! We love u guys Thank you !! read more

Met with RN Alex Castro today for the first time. He explained how hospice will help with my loved one. He was very thorough. One thing to note, if you elect hospice you will no longer be afforded treatment for an illness. It's either one or the other. We found this out when my loved one went for a follow-up. We ended up canceling hospice for further treatment. Check with your health insurance company. read more

I want to thank my Mom's LVN, Jennifer. She has been with my Mom for 1 1/2 years. She is compassionate, caring and straight forward. Besides me taking care of my Mom, I know Calstro has done a great job in taking care of my Mom. Olga, who comes to bathe her is so caring and careful in bathing her and does an exceptional job. Michelle, the RN, is caring and will discuss my Mom after each visit. The only negative thing is the person answering phones could be a little more compassionate, as it's very hard when a loved one is sick and not sure what to do. I give Jennifer, Olga and Michelle 10 stars. read more

Alex is the ultimate professional. He is bilingual and explains things easily. This is a poorly ran business that drops the ball constantly. My dying mother ran out of medicine on several occasions. We had asked for more care which was never followed through. The nurses were nice, but when we called them or text them, we never got a response back. I could leave a malicious review on here but I'm going to stay professional. If your loved one is going on hospice, please seek another company. I really hope this company uses this review as a learning experience and betters themselves. I know you can't make everyone happy, but not returning phone calls and running out of medicine is a disgrace. read more

When your loved one qualifies for hospice care, it can feel like you have been kicked in the gut. We first signed up with a big very well known company and they sucked. I felt like my dad was not treated like a valuable person. But then I contacted Calstro, I immediately got a call back and someone came over and talked to me about my dad. I felt confident that this company was going to treat my loved one with respect and dignity. Fast forward and I am still very happy with Calstro Hospice. The caregivers keep me advised of my dad's condition and answer all of my questions. A social worker came by and talked to me at my dad's Assisted Living and she wanted to know about my dad and our family. My dad's caregiver really takes an interest in him and she makes sure she wakes him up with a smile, she gets him bathed, brushes his teeth, feeds, and helps him to feel good about himself. She bandages his skin tears and documents his condition. Then she calls or texts me and lets me know how he is doing. read more

Calstro Hospice was a godsend. They treated my mom as if she was their own mother and always did everything it took to make her comfortable. Calstro Hospice was not only accessible at a moments notice, but were willing to sacrifice their own time to do what it took to make my mom feel secure. In one instance, Oscar and Alex came to visit my mom at 4:00 am without any forewarning because she was having difficulties breathing. I could not have asked for more selfless people to look after my mom. They helped make a very difficult time more manageable and truly put my mind at ease. read more
