I almost joined the chorus of negative reviews because the service has been spotty of late. I know the City of Cerritos was one of the first to separate the trash into trash (Black bin) , recyclables (Blue bin) and green waste and we have been doing so for decades. I am not sure what's going on with the trash pick up situation. For several weeks in a row, one of the bins (inconsistently between green or blue) was not emptied, even when all three were out on the curbside the night before. The truck that comes by had been consistent prior to the last two months. You can arrange for bulk item pick up, but need to have the item(s) out early on the day of regular trash pick up. ((But good luck with that - most trash days, there are roaming pick ups that will haul away your bulk item trash even before the actual trash service has come. Talk about Reuse & re-purpose or recycle)) Just an amusing story: one late February, my ex-husband (one of the reasons he's an ex) finally took the Christmas tree out to the curb for disposal as a bulk item (no extra charge BTW) , and aside from judgmental looks from the neighbors, trash service also hauled it away without any extra charge. read more

I see all the negative reviews for this business, so I thought I'd add my positive 2 cents to the mix. I've never had a bad experience with Calmet Services. I often call for a bulk pick up of items. ususally too many boxes from ecommerce shopping. Customer service has always been pleasant and helpful with me. Not sure what happened to the others who posted negative reviews. Maybe they were rude and obnoxious when they called and the customer service rep matched their energy. I dont know where to start I can say the drivers are very nice never had any issues whatsoever!! But I will add their call center/customer service is the WORST to ever deal with, low class manners and customer service overall their GHETTO the operator only transfers the calls to - the next Chola available... I work early so I put the trash out and cannot control when my trash is moved and then the trash doesnt get picked up. There are duplexes and cars parked near the bins so the trash is left un picked up. Is it really necessary that they can exit the truck to leave a note saying they arent going to pick it up cuz it's close to a car but they cannot pick up the bin. I don't like this company at all. Management do not know how to control their drivers. I've complained about my usual driver because of his attitude. Well, just now he left a note in my trash can that he can't pick up my trash, because it needs to be at least 3 feet away from a car. How was I suppose to know that. Yup, not even a warning. I know it's a feeble attempt of retaliation of this driver for my complaint about him last year. I'm planning to reach out to the Mayor of Cerritos to add one more complaint about CalMet. Seriously, these guys are lifesavers. Being a new resident of Downey, we inherited the old tenants trash. We're talking serious trash in the backyard. Couch, old mattress, wood cutting tables, metal bins, bag of dog food, old bed covers. You name it, we inherited it. Not to mention they lost or stole the city trash bin. I end up learning the hard way. I placed several bags of trash inside of the green city trash bin. Later in the evening, the trash is still there at the curb. There's a notice stating that the green bins are for landscaping waste. A couple days later my girl hears the trash truck coming. I run out in my pj's and slippers. I walk up to the driver and ask for a "favor." Slip him a $20 spot. BINGO. He literally takes about fifteen bags of trash that we had packed from the old tenants. Prices just went up 6+%. I was so much happier with Athens and Waste Management. Now I have a smaller bin for double the price. They want to charge for everything including $10 a week to open the gate and pull up to bin. I just pull it out my self and save $450+ a year. Ever since the city monopolized the industry trash around Los Angeles has gotten worse. The City of L.A is out of control. Propery owners have no choice in who they hire to dispose of their trash. I would like to commend the driver today by my house because he actually got out of the truck and move the cans. The neighbors have boxed in the trash cans due to parking being sparse. I've been chastised before by the driver or a driver not the same one. I appreciate them working and I understand it's hard to get in and out of the truck, but I cannot foresee where the cars or trucks will park after I have put out my cans. Calmet has been picking up trash, recycle and green from my house in Lomita since 2012. I have never had a negative experience. The drivers have always been polite, have never missed a pick-up in 7 years, and usually come within the same time frame every week. I had a favor to ask of one of the drivers today and he obliged without hesitation. I have been very pleased and thankful they have always done such a great job for me. read more

Great option for clearing out the garage or backyard of large items trash and junk from around the house. The price went up big since last time I was here. It used to be $25 per ton now it $54 for half a ton. Easy in and easy out. Great place if you can stand the price. There's another dump site in Norwalk buy it harder to get in and out. Rep charged me extra 2 days without letting me know I have to call them for removal. I was told they will pick it up after 7 days so we worked days and night to finish the move. Now they force us to pay 2 extra days when they were supposed to pick it up by the 7th day. Shady practice, they wrote down they notified me but they never told me or did I approve that 2 day extension. I paid for 7 days, knowing it will be picked up in that time frame. I called up CALMET SERVICES because my black trash bin has a tear on the side (must be from wear and tear) and my blue recycling bin's lid is warped and twisted. I was given the replacement brand-new trash bin free of charge but the blue one I was told to pay $89 to replace. I explained that I am a senior on a fixed, small income and the cost is too much for me and that a used bin should be fine for me. The supervisor was so lenient that she offered a one-time replacement, free on charge. I was ecstatic that my request was granted. CALMET never disappoints its customers. I call twice a year for free pick up of bulky items and they always deliver on time. Kudos to this company for providing services to the community. read more

I'm fine with their service except for the fact that their auto-pay system stops taking money from my account without telling me, then I get angry yellow letters saying I'm late along with a "credit hold" on my account. Calmet Services has a bunch of irresponsible, unprofessional and careless employees, from top to bottom. They have a trash truck that services a car wash facility every Saturday morning at 5:40 AM, causing extremely loud noises (from the truck's engine to the dropping of the bins). Clearly they don't understand noise ordinances that cities have nor do they respect the city's code enforcement representatives. For monthssss we've complained to the city and they can't get anywhere with Calmet, specifically with Hugo (boss-man). The one day of the week where we treasure sleeping in...and it's destroyed by these careless workers. We're wide awake by 6 AM thanks to Calmet. We have been waiting for months for Hugo to call us back..Also, the switchboard operator who takes the messages during after hours NEVER delivers the messages..it disappears into the black hole. This is the worst Trash company ever. Living in cerritos, you are FORCED to deal with them, they stink! The customer service is awful. Do yourself a favor, NEVER need their help. If you are thinking of moving to cerritos, consider that this is the ONLY company you are allowed to deal with in Cerritos, and they know it. They have a contract with the City of Cerritos to service all of their trash bins, and also for bin rental :( I can not wait to move to another city. I moved to city of Downey in 2012 and I have never had any issues with trash pickup. When I have need to call to schedule bulky pickup or additional trash bins the staff is friendly and never miss an appointment. read more

Terrible customer service. During each conversation we received multiple quotes (reminded me of the scam when people would talk you in circles for change from your cash register and before you knew it you gave them $50 change for a $10 bill!). Now they owe me money back and do not want to refund me plus want to send my client a prelim notice for the bills I've already paid. The sad part is they are franchised with the city and so we all have no choice but to use them. Even worse, their poor business practices and VERY poor customer service is a reflection on the city when the city has little control - other than to grant the contract to someone else. read more

They will bill you for being overweight and not be able to tell you what the weight limit is. They will then recommend you get more bins to not be overweight. The staff is not helpful, they don't return calls or follow up with you. So for I have to say I am extremely unimpressed. Just moved into an area where the HOA pays for the service, so apparently to Calmet that means they can piss on the end user. Their fee is locked in and would take a huge effort to change, so any single resident can take a hike. Issue dealing with customer service, asked to be transferred to a manager. Well it looks like I'm about to join the large group of dissatisfied customers who CALMET services has managed to piss off. For years I have enjoyed CALMET picking up extra bags of backyard hedge, bush, grass clippings at no extra cost. These are extra clippings that don't fit into my regular green waste container and I do this maybe 2-3 times a year. Well it seems that CALMET no longer provides that service for free and wants us to store our bags at our homes, then phase them into our future green waste pick ups. Their answer to my dilemma is to add another green waste container to my already high trash collection bill. ATTENTION, Downey City COUNCIL members, please read this and all negative comments made by residents like myself before offering an extension to CALMET Services in the future. read more

Apparently the y had a deal with the city of LA, so they raised the prices from $90+- to $300+- for the same bin we had, my manager called them to change the bin for a smaller one but they refused to changed, they said they had to talk to the owner, so they don't ask permission to raise prices but they do to lower them? I was doing business in NY, they didn't ask permission to my manager when she gave them our company CC in the past. I talked to the rep about it, but they didn't care. read more

I have always found the customer service reps to be VERY professional and the fees reasonable, I requested new cans and they were replaced on the next pick up day. Monday they forgot to take my cans. Called and requested them to be picked up. I was told they would be back to get cans and no luck. Called Tuesday to request a pick up. Well they took the cans. Called again and explained that my cans were picked up and was old I should have them back by 6PM. No luck. Called on Wednesday and spoke to "MANAGER" and she confirmed that I will have my cans back. Called and left her three messages and no return calls. Called again on Thursday again she confirmed that they are scheduled to be delivered and she will call me back. Well no call back and I left another three messages. Called on Friday and again the "MANAGER" confirmed that the cans will be delivered. No cans delivered by 2PM. Why does our wanna be senator Mayor Mario Guerra so hard headed at the several letters I have written him and our "Clowncil" of the ills of Cal-Met have it in his old feeble head that: "Mr. Duran?! Cal- Met is our best bet! Thev do a good job, and are the (lowest) bidder!" So said M.G. on my voice mail! I wrote this so called family owned garbage service 246 letters of the ills of their own dumpsters, what goes into them goes agains the EPA, how they manhandle their own dumpsters tweaking some out, busting wheels, busting the door covers of, smacking walls of businesses, beautifying the outside of dumpsters making them look brand new yet the insides are rusting away, painting some dumpsters white and posting "$5,000.00 Fine stickers on these, (why the idiots do not put these stickers on ALL of the dumpsters green, white, or other colour, is way beyond my finite mind!) I guess our fateful (not faithful) Mayor does not care whether Cal-Met is a "serial" rate hike raiser, does not dump scheduled to dump dumpsters on the day(s) seem to be able to dump six apartment dumpsters in one dump, but cannot dump a stripmall with six dumpsters in one day but in two to five days!!!!!!! They sure can raise rates but waste mucho fuel in lousy dumpster dumping practices! I went as far as to put notes on dumpsters of businesses that Cal-Met skips! I wrote that Cal-Met is supposed to dump your dumpster each time, that you pay about $1,000.00 a month or year to rent it! Why don't you call Cal-Met and threaten to sue them for the rental cost of your dumpster if they ever skip it again! Out of thirty notes only two businesses took me up on that and for the last three years Cal-Met has yet to skipvtheir dumpsters! I guess the other twenty-eight do not care. Here is what one dumb woman of a beauty salon in North Downey told me: "I am sick and tired of the notes you leave on my dumpster about the dumpster being skipped on regular trash days. I could care less whether Cal-Met dumps or skips my dumpster. I do not have the time to take Cal-Met to court on such stupidity, nor the money. The next time you leave any kind of note on my dumpster or any place back here I will get my attorney and the police involved." I laughed and walked away and I shouted: "Cal-Met's procrastinations are my huge heydays!" And they are too! I find much more in skipped to dump dumpsters! And with that! Adios! Calmet is the worst. I rented a trash bin (low boy) for cement. They give you a specific size to fill. Oddly enough, after you fill it to recommended height, they tell you it weighs too much and have to pay again for difference. It's a scam. Stay away from them. read more
