The variety and presentation of foods was very good. The prices, whew. On the high side, but it's tougher now to keep up with what must be a nightmare of price changes. Nonetheless, there was attention paid to stocking a wide variety of foods. You could go to Sam's Club and get broccolini for about a third of the price. Trader Joe's has the same sweet Vidalias for about a third less. You can't find the vegan substitutes at either Sam's or TJ's. There are good fresh fish and mussels/clams/etc. I picked up some "Norwegian" cod (probably Icelandic) that was fresh and stellar. We found exactly what we needed; the prices were a little high but we also felt it unusual to find the variety we did. This has a price and we paid it. It could be less expensive, but then, they'll have high competition from the Aldi's going up across the street soon; perhaps that will temper the prices, but we hope it doesn't temper the variety, which was pretty darn good.

Day 2 - roast beef strips, beet salad and blueberry oat bar. I also got snacks for my drive home (tangerine slices, cheese, almonds). I also got a salmon strip with lemon and a house salad for dinner when I got home. They have tables if you want to eat in both on the first floor and in the mezzanine. They also have handmade sandwiches, all kinds of other foods and the folks working were friendly and informative. They are stocked with wonderful groceries. The store here is always well packed and maintained which is nice because it is easier to find the items that we are looking for. I put in an online order for a charcoal grill for pickup on the 6th, but ended up having more time than I expected and coming by the evening of the 5th to pick it up. The process itself was painless, but the guy behind the customer service counter kept on referring to me as "he" and "him". I don't expect anybody to guess or even necessarily understand my gender identity, but it is a good rule of thumb that if somebody is wearing a full face of makeup, a skirt, and jewelery that they probably do not want to be seen as or referred to as a man. Normally this would not be something that would upset me enough to complain about it, it is something that happens to me on a semi-regular basis. That being said, recently I've been harassed on the street a lot more and I would really appreciate it if I could shop without having to deal with more of that bullshit.

You'd expect that the chains like Big Y and Stop & Slop would have economy of scale advantages, but apparently not. So far, we've found the quality perfectly good, the place large and clean, and plenty of deep discounts (pork roast for $1.99/lb? Ten pounds of local potatoes for $2.99/bag?) of useful staples. They use the 'Best Yet' in-house label that Fosters in Greenfield uses, as well as sharing a couple other local vendors -- for instance, they have the same discount local brand of spices that Fosters and The Barn uses, however much labeled 'Food City' instead. The only fly in the ointment, so far, is that the bakery selection is meagre, and often not very good. As against that, they've got a pizza operation that's just plain outstanding, the best pizza I've had yet in the county, and often the cheapest: just the other day was twice now that I've gone in for a large (16") pizza and found it sale priced at $10 even. I wish I knew about these prices the last three years, because I would've done my grocery shopping here instead of in Greenfield.
