In general I like this store. However, I do order online about once a month for pick up, and in general it never goes well. The pickers and the persons who bring the order out are great. But the dept is not. Most businesses are short of staff and I get that. And this visit there was a significant snow storm, but cleaned up this morning. Communication with the department lead is always traumatic. One time I actually went inside and that was a bad bad move on my part. I wonder if maybe this service should no longer be offered, or perhaps limited to one or two orders per hour. read more

Clean and decently stocked, if perhaps a little more expensive than I would have liked. I wanted a few new things for the road and stopped here to pick them up. No problems finding stuff. The deli is clean, the produce area is clean, the meat counters along the back are clean. I used the restrooms and they were also clean. Tried to order a cake April 9 for the 11 was told they needed 3 or more days notice. Denied my request. Called on May 2 for a cake on May 7.. Clerk's laughed and stated they could not except orders until Thursday telling me decorator would not be there until then.. A bake shop without a cake decorator? I most likely will never go to the Greenfield stop & shop again. I went on a Saturday morning. They had 1 check out lane open and all the self check outs. Since I'm not being paid to work there, I usually avoid self check outs, but had to as the regular lane had to large a line. 3 of my items rang up incorrectly and didn't give me the sale price. Had to call someone over, and actually run and check a price myself once. Please hire some cashiers!!! I will shop somewhere that will hire some. I don't care for Big Y either but at least they always have several cashiers working! read more

Small carts are easier for older people and those with certain disabilities,,but I thing there are 9 small carts in various conditions. The help likes to use them for such things as holding the plastic shopping baskets in , 20 feet away from where they are stacked by the doors. Also see them holding what looks like returns. Sometimes the cashier at self check out will give their small cart to me, about half the time. This last time the worker who gave it to me got an earful from another employee for giving it up. It does make a big difference to me,and I'm sure others,but it doesn't seem to matter to staff. So I will say this,,Big Y has lots of small carts and nicer workers. Market Basket is way cheaper and worth the ride.I have encountered nice employees at Stop & Shop,,but it is the worse supermarket and will see much less of me there read more

I've been coming to the Greenfield Stop & Shop since my mother would bring me as a child even when it was at its original location on Bernardston Road. And like most children they usually follow tradition and do what their mother and father has done like buying brands of soap or brands of food and so on so. So I continue to go to Stop & Shop as an adult. I've got to say this place sucks now the food prices are so outrageous and the customer service sucks more ever since they had to strike a few years ago. For a $200 grocery bill here I can pay $150 at Market Basket which is only 20 minutes away. I don't mind spending the $10 in gas to save 40 bucks.... but when I'm in a pinch and have no time I do come to Stop & Shop to do my shopping here and I always regret coming here after I look at my bill. read more

If you order online for pickup- NEVER order produce. They pick out the worst, the stuff no one would pick themselves. I'm impressed with the quality of service considering how it's covid time still, and S&S has a fantastic pick up service! As a disabled senior, I don't want to go shopping indoors if it can be avoided. I have used other stores with a delivery or online ordering with pick up, but have never found one that takes food stamps for the online orders. I give this giant store that I was reluctant to use, (I prefer to use locally owned businesses when possible), but I must say that Stop & Shop has been above and beyond considerate of their customers! 5 stars aren't enough to describe what a great place this is! read more

Want to spend an afternoon wandering around aimlessly with little to show for it other than a whole cartful of aggravation? Then come on down to the Greenfield Stop & Shop! It used to be a good store where you could find things that other Stop & Shops never had on the shelves. But now a lot of these shelves are either empty, or full of empty roaster pans, or endless boxes of Cheerios, because guess what? For your delight and convenience, they are moving every blessed item in the store all over the place, from one end to the other, where you will most likely never be able to find it ever again! And why are they ruining a perfectly good store? Apparently it's to add a whole bunch of new items, which will serve to fill you full of delight to make up for the frustration and aggravation generated by looking for the things you NEED to buy but that you can no longer find. NEWS FLASH to Stop & Shop management: I would bet that most of your customers just want to get in and out, once they've figured out which basic items they can still afford from week to week. It's no good adding five, six, seven hundred new items when you can barely afford the things that you need to feed your family. And when people can't find these things, you will simply end up with angry and frustrated customers who will conclude that going elsewhere is the best remedy. In addition to that, you are wasting the time, energy, and potential of your employees by making them move things all over the store for no good reason, where they can't find them either, and then they have to deal with angry people who just want to get what they need and then go home. And even your managers don't seem to know where things are! The more and more I shop here the less satisfied I become with the products and store overall. In the last few months it seems as though the store has plummeted in quality. The last few times I have been here there has been a lack of produce, the meat quality has been poor and the prices have increased. An issue I run into here is the fact that their checkout lines are always slow and the selfcheckout lines are always getting stuck. The other issue I have is the fact that their bathrooms are gross. They need a good cleaning or some renovation. I will continue to shop here because it is convenient but I hope that things improve here. read more

There were a few good sale prices, for which you need the store's card though my cashier was nice and gave me the lower price anyways. Most things are expensive though. They have those cheap gloves by the entrance for $4.99 that are $1.00 at a dollar store. Their pesto is more than double the price at Market Basket. You even have to pay for your bags, and then pay tax on the bag fee as well! The store has a natural foods section and numerous non-food aisles including toys but not much in the way of frozen foods. I arrived at 4:10 and the store was not especially crowded but the lines were long because not enough registers were open. The store is easy to find and not far from the highway but I do not expect to return given the high prices. read more

This is a pretty standard Stop and Shop in that they offer regular fare: full florist, bakery, and their Peapod service (delivery to home or business), and moderately high prices (for a usual grocery store, other than say, Whole Foods). This particular store has a great selection of natural foods, including organic dairy, eggs, and cheese. Organic produce, however, is lacking. My main complaint is their "seasoned" (I put this in quotes, as it's questionable) firewood. It doesn't burn, no matter how much kindling we put in with it. We have to leave the door to our woodstove open the entire time it smolders, and it never generates any heat. It's also more expensive than Whole Foods' wood (it's 2 bunches for $12 as opposed to 2 for $10). What I've learned, too, is that if you have allergies, make sure you're not allergic to the tree wood you buy. I've discovered I'm horribly allergic to the trees they use (since we have to leave the door open, and the wood fibers are rushed into the air). Anyway, this is a decent Stop & Shop. I wish they had a better organic produce department, but all in all, it's a decent store with good service. read more

Reading others' reviews, it's clear that this Stop & Shop's issues are definitely real and felt by many. Here's the particular issues I have with this location: 1) issues being disability-friendly. I work as a PCA for a disabled person who has to use the Mart Cart (electric cart) when shopping. This location only has two, and for a period of 3 months or more, one of them were out of commission. We notified management several times of the issue, only to be met with "we know." I believe the other cart is working now, but still, the lack of motivation leaves a bad taste in my mouth. 2) long lines. No matter what time of day, there's always only 2-3 cash registers open, and a long line at each one. The other day, I waited almost 20 minutes at customer service due to understaffing. The self checkout often has issues with registering items on the scale and delays checkout just as badly as the long lines. 3) items out of stock. Like others mention, it seems that this Stop & Shop has serious issues with ordering and stocking. Sale ads will run and the items listed will be out, not just for a day, but for a whole week of more (example: Nature's Promise unsweetened soy milk). Deli items will be there one day and not the next (example: Tyson fish sandwiches, hot and ready to go). There's a few gems who have gone above and beyond the dismal state of things at Stop & Shop, but they're few and far between. Here's hoping they find the motivation to amp up their quality and customer service in 2016. read more

It takes me twice the time here in Greenfield due to the set up of freezer cases blocking free movement. read more

This is the only grocery store open in this area until 11pm, which is supposed to be super convenient, but it is not when their card reader is not working, and you've brought a cart full of groceries that you need for the morning to the register and don't have enough cash to cover it. I was told unsympathetically by the cashier to "come back tomorrow." It did not seem as though any effort was actually made to solve this issue. It is understandable that the store was almost closing, but customer service should come first. Stop & Shop is a big corporation - they should not be having issues like card readers not working and having customers have to return for their groceries. Super disappointing, huge inconvenience, and completely ridiculous. Despite the lower prices than Big Y, I will never be shopping here again. read more

The produce is probably the least appealing option in Greenfield, behind big Y and fosters; this isn't even mentioning the co-op and farm stand options. The store's saving grace is the location, it saves you a lengthy and frustrating drive down main st. That's about it. The staff is really what makes this store sub par. They're poorly trained and rarely motivated to help you. Most times I've asked a question or about a service, I've been treated like an inconvenience. This is a union shop so they have our vote. The store is large enough to have all the right products we need and yet small enough to get in and out relatively quickly. The organic food and produce areas have grown since the reviews below. They have taken steps to make the deli lines shorter. The lines at the register are long-ish because it's a popular store. The lines at Big Y are no different and Stop and Shop appears to have more adult full time workers than Big Y. And, if you use the circular, they offer very good gas points. I've always been a big y person when I lived in town, half the reason was because it was closer to my house. Now that I've moved away and come to visit family I go to stop and shop because it is closer. I think it's worth the couple extra minutes to go to big y. The past three times I've visited stop and shop to get my son organic whole milk they have had none. Not only in the brand I want but in any organic or our family farms milk. They have an abundant supply of fat free and 1% but they have zero whole milk. I even inquire with the dairy stock person to check and they come back empty handed. I can understand having this problem once or twice but three times is a bit much. read more

Two check out lines open., self scan machines break repeatedly and no employees to help when scanners break and no one there to help bag groceries. The Greenfield S&S is the worst. They go up, up, up on prices....then you are supposed to check it out and bag it yourself. Even if you go to the one or two actual cashiers, you have to bag it all yourself. They don't have enough help. It's ridiculous. Their quality is terrible. Rotten vegetables and meats. Be sure to check the expiration dates here because they never clear the shelves of old food. Almost bought a bottle of milk today with a best by date of 4/19/18. Over a week ago. The people who actually do work there are fine, but honestly, the management stinks. I am a local and so do alot of shopping in Greenfield with Stop & Shop being closest plus wanted to utilize their gas point program. But I must say that this store is constantly out of items that I use. Besides that, much of their produce, both organic and non is substandard. I once watched an elderly woman working in the deli clip her fingernails standing in front of the slicers and open food. She is also he one who holds your order hostage while she finishes her story.One of the others dropped a salami on the floor and went and rinsed it off and tried to come back out and slice it but was stopped by a coworker. I've gotten rancid potato salad from here. The back room has flooded multiple times and leaves the whole store smelling like death because they either don't have or wont spend the money to fix the pipes in the building. The workers are asked to go above and beyond for minimum wage and are punished like children when they do not. They are taking advantage of their young work force that does not know their rights. This whole store (whole company) is a gross joke and for your and your family's heath and safety I suggest shopping somewhere where they treat the customers like people who deserve good food and not like dollar signs.
