The Point of Sale system is out of date. At checkout, I told the cashier I had a $10 off coupon on my phone and did I need to go get it to complete the sale. She asked for my phone number and found my profile. She didn't say "Yes, I need to see the coupon". I assumed (shame on me) she applied the $10 off. I load the plants, look at my receipt and the $10 off was not applied. She applied a different discount which was less than $10. I walked back and by now there is a line. In order to apply the coupon, she had to return all the items (enter each one) and then ring the sale again. I will not be back to the Denton location. read more

I received outstanding service from Rhealee last fall when I was looking for shrubs. She helped me so much and then I used the planting service. Rhealee explained why my first set of shrubs probably did not make it that my yard guys planted (did not buy dead ones from here). The Calloway's contractor did a great job planting and was very easy to work with. My shrubs are full of new growth this spring. I was so happy to see her on my last visit and she helped me pick up a few more. Her knowledge of my clay soil and the plants has saved me! She was able to order for me too! I plan to work with Rhealee on planting more shrubs and trees this coming September! read more

Not the best prices. I wish they had more price tags on everything because I bought a cheap plastic watering can, figuring it would cost less than $5 like at any other store. It was $8. I bought three little plants, plus the watering can, and was floored by how much it all cost. Still, they do have an amazing selection! I went to this store because I wanted to see what they offer for weed killers. 2 different employees recommended two different products. I bought one of the products only to find out I paid $15.00 more than Home Depot's price for the same product. I expected a slightly higher price but not by 50% more than the competitor. Price at HD was $24.99 compared to Calloway's at $39.99. I don't mind paying for convenience but.....you make the call I called the store, the employee said they know it is a ripoff and I should contact their corporate office. No time for that just won't go back and will not recommend to anyone I know. read more

My gardening ability isn't great, but I love to try. The nice thing about this Calloway's is that you can go in on a slow day, show the staff a picture of the space you want to fill, what you like, what you have as soil, and they get you going in the right direction. I've never gotten one of those "Save the plant...don't let her take it home to die" looks from the staff. No one has laughed or rolled their eyes at my questions. They patiently walk me all over, showing me plants and telling me what to do to the soil and how to take care of the plant. The knowledgeable staff is probably the reason for the high plant prices, so I'm probably being unreasonable for giving only 4 stars. I'm going back in a few weeks, so perhaps I'll update. And I have to say...nothing I have bought there has died. It's either a testament to their ability to guide me to the right plants or the hardiness of their stock. read more

We've been here a few times to pick up seasonal items. While they did have a great selection of pumpkins in the fall, they were very expensive for what they were. We didn't even bother with the greenery over Christmas because of the prices, and when we went by for herbs last weekend, the selection was minimal, most of the plants looked pretty anemic, and they were not even marked with prices. When I went to find someone to ask how much the herbs were, I couldn't mind an associate, so we left. I wouldn't go out of my way to stop here again. read more

I love Calloway's. They have a great selection of plants and knowledgable staff. They offer classes to the community. They're an overall great company. As great as they are, I have to rate the Denton location with only 2 stars. Why? Because no matter how slow you drive over the unavoidable speed bumps in their parking lot, you WILL bottom out your vehicle. I don't drive a tiny smart car. I drive an SUV & it still bottoms out at Calloway's! It's like they're trying to trap their customers in the parking lot. A Pep Boys is located next door to them. Coincidence? Calloways has a great selection of quality plants. We bought all the plants for our garden there and all plants are growing well. They had a large selection of vegetables to choose from. We have also been back for flowers and other plants. The staff is always friendly and helpful. It can be a little difficult finding something specific but the staff is always eager to help. The prices are a bit high on some things. If you want just simple pots go to Walmart, but if you are getting plants then you need to come here. I'm sure we will be back every season to buy more things. read more

My dad has a serious green thumb. In his backyard garden, everything flourishes. It seems like he just throws some seeds out and a couple months later he's got gigantic (award winning sized) vegetables everywhere. Hoping that it might be in the genes, I started to look around for some stuff to start a small garden... nothing fancy, just a few small pots. I started looking around and I realized that I had no idea what I was doing... definitely not in the genes. The good people at Calloway's came to my rescue. With some suggestions from their friendly and helpful staff, I was able pick out a couple of plants from their huge selection (is there any plant that they don't have?). Now let's see if I can keep them alive... and maybe even get some decent sized vegetables in return. read more

MY ADVICE: when searching for a nursery, don't fall prey to the Calloways marketing machine!!! I am a first time reviewer, but had to leave one to make known my displeasure. Being new to Texas, We have purchased from Calloways on multiple occasions. Their marketing efforts are great as every time we've searched for a nursery the venue is flooded with Calloways. I suggest putting some of that money into quality products. The last straw has been the bougainvillea plants we purchased a month ago. Both still are failing to thrive while one we bought from Home Depot is flourishing. When we went to transplant it from its container it appeared to have had its roots severely trimmed. As I am not a flower expert, maybe there is a reason for this, but given its sickly state, it does not appear to be a respected practice. read more

Orchids here have botrytis. One of the employees named Micah (didn't have a name tag and could have misheard the name) lied and said an "idiot" employee sprayed water on them. Apparently this is what caused the brown spots, but water won't do that. They are misted all the time by growers. They were trying to sell them for a special deal. Don't trust this place. read more

He was incredulous regarding there needed to be a price mark down as a result of the package seal was broken. Unwilling to find a compromise regarding the interaction. Went to calloways last Sunday starting from scratch. Asked the cashier for someone to help us pick out plants and she was very friendly. I don't remember her name but she paged Austin who walked around with us for 30min up to maybe an hour. He was very helpful and very patient with us! Even with two carts full of plants the check out was very and we left under budget! Overall a great experience. We will go back for future landscaping needs :) read more
