Dropped in after reading the recommendation from the Lonely Planet guide. I agree that it's worth the very short walk to get away from the bustle of nearby Victoria Road. Today was a public holiday, so there weren't many people around when we had lunch, but there was a steady stream of locals coming in for takeaway coffee and food. We scored a table near one of the large open windows, which afforded as tantalising glimpses of Auckland across the harbour.
The coffee was excellent: a really full-flavoured brew with no hint of bitterness. If you like your coffee hot (as my wife does) you'll also be pleased with the coffee.
The eat-in menu didn't have a large selection, but what it did have was a good choice of modern cafe fare with really fresh product and great presentation. There were quite a few items with halloumi chese, which I really enjoy. I had the halloumi salad, which had mint that tasted as if it was just picked from the garden.
I reckon this is well worth the short trip up the hill at the end of Clarence Street. read more
