With its industrial modern interior, and big open windows, this is the perfect little coffee shop to enjoy on a beautiful afternoon. Located in the trendy britomart area, there are many shops and cafes located within walking distance. The waterfront is nearby as well making Espresso Workshop located in the perfect area. We tried their hot mocha this sunny afternoon. The espresso was perfectly roasted, and the chocolate flavor was very rich without being overpowering. With its subtle sweetness yet still slightly bitter from the coffee and cocoa, this was the perfect marriage between coffee and chocolate. I would highly recommend this place to others! read more

Nice hot mocha tasting hot and rich, with a beautiful design on top. I wish I knew how do make that! This little shop is just near the waterfront, within walking distance of the major attractions. We sat outside at the little tables and chairs and enjoyed a hot mocha and a flavored water. Both were excellent, as was service. read more

Love this place. Not as bad as others have described! The place- next to Britomart train station. Not a lot of seats. I think most customers are office workers and order to go. Some outdoor seating filled with annoying smokers. The coffee- take your pick. They pretty much have everything. Single origins from most continents. Can be served whichever way you like, espresso, cold brew, V60, aeropress, chemix etc. they roast their own beans at their main shop in Parnell. Service- I guess most people complaints about the waiting time. Wasn't so much an issue for me. You know that Mainland ad- good things take time. You just have to sit down and kick back and wait. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable. Food- came for the coffee. Price- not cheap. I come to realize that Auckland is not cheap in general. $6 for a pour over. Has free wifi. Finally I found my hiding spot to do work in Auckland. read more

I have been looking for a filtered cup of Joe for awhile now, this place did the trick. Best coffee I've had however the baked goods were lacking and so was the call plus public wifi outside. The coffee price is a little high and I'm not sure if the high quality is worth the extra two bucks. If money is no object and you want the best cup of joe give it a try. read more

One of the few, if only spots in the Britomart area to offer coffee. It has an industrial modern interior theme, with several seating options most with a view to the outdoors. There's indoor/outdoor seating available, along with a few newspapers and magazines to enjoy. Or you might find enjoyment drinking your coffee while watching the suits pass by from the businesses above. The service here is prompt and very friendly. My espresso with honey on the side (no extra charge) was brought to my table under 5 minutes. They also provide free still water ready to go in glass bottles. I would say they might need additional staff because there were three un-bused tables when I looked for a seat. I ended up stacking some plates, then pushing them aside (gasp). Was it because they were closing in 15 minutes? Even if so, is that a valid reason to skimp on the quality and presentation of your cafe... Probably not. read more

I totally agree with Milly H's review. I went to Espresso Workshop late morning (about 11:30) with two friends. We left feeling very disappointed. We ordered three takeaway drinks - 1x extra hot flat white with trim milk, 1x extra extra hot hot chocolate with trim millk and 1x non trim milk hot chocolate, extra hot. Drinks came after a long wait. I tried my extra extra hot hot chocolate which was lukewarm, as were the other two drinks. We told the coffee girl that they were not hot enough, bordering cold, and would she be able to heat the drinks up in the microwave, however she said she would make them again. Also the coffee girl made both the hot chocolates trim milk and did not understand when we told her that we only wanted one with trim milk! Second time round, all three drinks were a little bit warmer, but we all thought it was poorly made coffee/hot chocolate. However, as I started to drink it, I realised that it tasted different to the normal hot chocolates I have had. I am 100% sure the milk was off. My friend who ordered the flat white agreed also and did not finish her coffee. We were already on the road by this time and feeling very dissatisfied hence the need to write this review. I thought this place would be amazing, but I am really disappointed and unfortunately, Espresso Workshop will not be getting any praise. read more

Terrible coffee, terrible service, terrible fit-out. I got excited when this place opened. A new third wave coffee joint right on my back door step. After having withdrawals for Eighthirty I jumped at the chance to sample some freshly roasted coffee. Unfortunately the service was way below par, there was hardly anyone in their and 3 people behind the counter who managed to stuff up my coffee three times. Firstly it was made soy, then it was made in a giant cup and when they finally got it right it was bitter and watery. Not going back. Don't recommend it. read more

I finally made it to Espresso Workshop in Britomart this morning! I am a frequent at Espresso Workshop Parnell but have been meaning to visit Britomart to try out this little beauty. Let me introduce to you the game changer of all cold brew coffee THE NITRO BREW!! Created by Stumpton Coffee Roster in 2012 who incorporated the brewing science of draft beer with cold brew coffee. Coffee is stored in kegs with nitrogen and infused. It is then pushed through a tap with tremendous PSI via a five-hold disc. This leaves the coffee with cascading effect and a foamy head. Which is why it's called the Guinness of coffee as it looks pretty similar to it! This also gives it a creamy mouth feel making it one of the smoothest black coffees you will ever drink! Its served over ice straight from the tap and has wicked cool factor and taste. I can't wait to have another one read more

If you're after filtered coffee, Espresso Workshop is your spot. They offer a variety of coffee bean options, which are also available cold brewed (a process which apparently takes 8 hours!). The favourite espresso-based beverages, are on offer, as well, though! A small flat white is $3.50, which I find pretty reasonable. I went for a cold brew out of curiosity - was definitely full-bodied (in fact, too much for me!) but undoubtedly of high quality. I tend to prefer espresso-based coffees, so I will definitely come back to give theirs a sample! read more

I sit on the fence with this one. I know that they have won awards but the person that won those awards was probably not making coffee either of the times I came for coffee here. Although I think it has a good location and I do like sitting at the little table and stools in the front window, my experience with the coffee or the service was never fantastic. I prefer to go to L'Assiette and they are right next door. The Espresso Workshop in Parnell is a different story, that one I like just not sure what is up with this Britomart one. read more

Was my regular coffee joint for over a year when I worked in the area. Consistently good coffee, they are serious about their coffee and all staff have a good knowledge on their different varieties. The cabinet food can be quite over priced for what it is...I know they have to make money somehow but it isn't ideal bang for your buck! The staff are all friendly and attentive, very good at remembering many of their regulars names and coffee orders - something that made me keep going back! Not gonna lie--most of the brewing techniques here were a complete mystery to me when I walked in and had no clue what to order. Thankfully, the super friendly staff remedied that immediately, enlightening this coffee-n00b on the differences in method and taste between all their available soft brewing choices. When you're served, you'll receive a small pot as well as the round sort of glass that I've honestly come to associate with alcohol. They'll also hand you a small info sheet that describes the specific taste (fruity, flowery, toffee, etc.) and "mouth feel" of the coffee you've ordered, and you can pretend you're a sommelier but for coffee. All the fancy coffee-snobbery aside, the coffee itself is delicious, the service is great, and the soup I ordered was quite good as well. I'll be back! read more

Roaming about Auckland, and carrying over my coffee drinking habit from Starbucks Central (Seattle), I came across this coffeeshop. The barista was friendly and greeted me right away as I stepped in. She helped me decide between having my now-usual long black and latte by stating I could have a compromise by having a long macchiato. Seeing as this was the first time having this drink (long espresso with a dollop of foam), I wasn't sure what to expect. It wasn't a bad drink, but it wasn't at the top of my list. This is definitely a place that knows about coffee. And they tell you all about it. "single origin beans," "cold brew," "That's not our freshest bean, we are getting some fresher beans in later today..." and so on and so forth. This place makes a pretty big deal out of making coffee, as though they are members of an enlightened guild who guard the secrets to a truly great coffee. Of course, I got sucked in. I paid 5.00 for a filter brew - and when it came out it looked pretty cool. But when I tasted it, I realised what it really was - a drip filte. Like something you see in an american diner, or an office. they also do a 'cold extraction' for 7 dollars which looks pretty refreshing. I once worked with a vietnamese girl who taught me a very similar thing - get a glass full of ice, pour a fresh double espresso shot over the top and hey presto - cold extraction. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh, and half the fun of this place is the experience, the slight condescension you get from the barista, and my coffee was good and lasted a while. I just think it might have a bit of a case of style over substance. read more

This place serves some of the best coffee in Auckland. The price for a coffee($3.50 for a flat white) is cheaper than majority of coffee in Auckland. They also offer alternative coffee brewing techniques such as aero-press, filter, cold brew etc. The coffee is always strong and consistent as is the friendly service. An added bonus is that they have rice milk as a lactose free milk alternative. Keep up the good work EW Britomart. read more

I was looking for a cafe with outside seating and great coffee. Espresso Works seemed sketch given its mild rating here on Yelp, however after walking by undecided to stop and spent the afternoon enjoying the casual atmosphere and great nitro cold brew coffee and a flat white to die for. This place definitely deserves more credit. The staff were friendly and prompt and the coffee top notch. Absolutely a great place to go for a quick cup or to linger and enjoy a nice summer afternoon. read more
