Best Breakfast in Ponsonby! I've been here a lot over the last few years and this place is great. It's small so it gets crowded at times (which might explain a review about being asked not to linger forever.) The food is outstanding, my favorite being the "Veggie Brekky". I've found the staff to be very friendly and with quite a good dry sense of humour. At least for me a trip to Auckland isn't complete without a breakfast here. read more

There's something about Café Cezanne that I just absolutely adore. Whether it be the large murals decorating the space or the laid-back, no-frills, "chilling in your own den" feeling, there's a definite sense of comfort here. They offer a variety of cuisine choices (including vegetarian and gluten free options!). And their desserts do not disappoint. Portions are also larger than your average kiwi café, which is a nice change of pace for this American ;) Prices are reasonable and they have outdoor seating (or outdoor/indoor combination depending on where you choose to sit in relation to their open air arrangement). Bonus points (as always) for being open past 6PM as well as for convenience to public transport (specifically the outer link). I will definitely be back. read more

Pretty much just tried this cafe out today (went for breakfast) and I was so impressed had to review it asap! :) Such a funky place, loved the staff, the food but most of all the awesome decor. Very unique and different! For breakfast I has scrambled eggs with bacon and toast - it was delicious! Lovely place, with fantastic staff. I am not a big eater, and was happily accommodated with a single poached egg, toast, bacon and hollandaise to form an Eggs Benedict (The menu has THREE eggs, and a ton of bacon) Really? Who are they feeding? Sumo wrestlers? Very, very good salty bacon, cooked to perfection. Poached egg was soft and dreamy. I ended up mopping it all up with toast, and adding more hollandaise, feeling like a right little miss piggie! It's quirky, kind of God knows what decor. Huge load of amazing looking cakes and slices, and I am betting that they are all made on the premises. Coffee was good, if a tad foamy on the capuchino. Having read Emmanuel B's review, I think that they are well shot of him. If you are going to review, be fair. It has my vote, and we are even likely to go back even though our time here is limited. 10 days is not at all enough time to eat your way around Auckland! Oh, and the mural has a pokemon ball spin thing too, if you are into it. read more

The décor is kitschy but not unpleasant, and there is a large variety of food and cakes to select from. I was kept waiting at the counter without being acknowledged for a few minutes (a pet hate) but other than that the staff were friendly. I ordered the Cezanne Mess as it was different from the standard breakfast fare. Whilst I did enjoy it, I found chunks of avocado there which weren't mentioned on the menu, and the tomatoes were raw. Bread was tasty though. Perhaps I caught them on an off day, I'd definitely say to try them if you want a slightly different cafe experience. read more

I have been coming to Café Cezanne for over six years now. Mainly because it's one of the only cafes around Ponsonby that's open at night. My friends and I have spent countless evenings talking life, and other not so important things (haha) in this cafe. Their coffee is pretty decent, although nothing too special. And they do great cakes and I love their squid salad. The décor could probably use a little bit of a spruce up, but this has never deterred us from going there. I grab something to eat at Cafe Cezanne quite often because it's right up the road from my work. There are always a few people languidly noodling at their meal or listlessly blowing on their coffee outside. Sometimes on of them has a dog. One of the striking things for me about the culinary experience at Cafe Cezanne, is the wealth of their portions. Everything is so big and dense there. You'd never accuse them of trying to short change you. I think that's probably a good thing. I mean, people like lots of a thing, right? I'd highly recommend grabbing one of the pre-prepared desserts they have in their cabinet. The raspberry cheesecake is friggen insane. I love the atmosphere and decor of Cafe Cezanne. With angel-type figures painted on the walls, everything in Cafe Cezanne is multicoloured and vibrant and radiates friendliness. The atmosphere is always very funky yet remains a causal, relaxed place to sit and enjoy a coffee, smoothie or some great food. Their cabinet food always looks fresh and scrummy - I've had one of their chickpea salads and it was delight. Not too much sauce, and plenty of veges tossed through it, it was a great lunch, felt healthy and was very reasonably priced. I've also enjoyed their big breakfasts and smoothies over the years and can say without any hesitation that any meal you choose from cafe Cezanne will fill you with pleasure! Portion sizes are all very generous too, so you always feel like you're getting your money's worth - a huge bonus. The murals, brick counter, wooden furniture, chalk, casually dressed staff and delicious menu mean there really isn't any reason not to stop by Cafe Cezanne next time you're in Three Lamps shopping mall! read more

It's rustic and generous mix of breakfast and lunch meals forms an impressionist palate of culinary fare, but features mostly works of the previous century (think french toast , pancakes, Mexican breakfast, eggs Benedict and salads). There is nothing modern or pretentious about Cafe Cezanne. Just honest traditional goodness from the bosom of its caring owners served to a colorful and appreciative crowd. We were looking for a place for breakfast and tried Café Cezanne as the reviews were all positive. They weren't wrong. Very comfortable family feel Friendly Service and breakfast was fantastic. Not just the same old bacon & eggs but lots of different options and delicious. I had the Full English Breakfast with Black Pudding and it was wonderful, although you need to be hungry to finish it ... The portions are very generous. Coffee was excellent ... Loved this place, will definitely be back here! It is certainly not flash, but what it lacks in minimal design it makes up for in charm, and tasty food! We were looking for a really chill brunch spot late one Saturday morning. Came to Cezanne, no wait at the counter and had our pick of tables. Bf ordered the big kiwi breakfast and a flat white, I had the bacon + mushroom omelette and a flat white. Totally satisfied all around. My omelette was huge and came with slices of buttery focaccia, at $20 for the lot. It was prob my fave omelette I've had in a long time! The big kiwi breakfast was chock full of meats, so if that's your thing, it's yours for $22. The flat whites were great too. Service was friendly, quick, and attentive. Decor was hodgepodge in the most loveable/giving zero effs about being cool way. Food was excellent brunch food - generous portions and comforting combos. read more

Cafe Cezanne is a hugely popular spot for Ponsonby locals as well Aucklanders in general. It's usually busy all through the day and especially so in the middle of the week days and weekends. Food: Well crafted menu, nicely presented, fresh ingredients, well prepared. Atmosphere: Nice, casual ambience offering a relaxed space that's vibrant and peaceful at the same time. Service: Friendly and warm, without being intrusive. Pricing: Though some menu items may seem a bit overly priced, their consistency of quality justifies the tag. Overall, a pleasant space to enjoy a relaxed meal or drink while observing the buzzing Ponsonby road traffic. If they worked a bit more on presentation and spruced up the staff professionalism, it would get my five stars. read more

Ponsonby is a gem of cafe finds- and likewise to my own tastes, my friend prefers to try new places over going to the same place. And when she said she was willing to revisit Cezanne cause it was so good, I knew we had a winner. They have lovely cabinet selections and an extensive menu with very unique items such as the livers but they also have a great blackboard with specials. I'm as adventurous as can be with new foods, willing to try almost everything- but I went safe with the haloumi feta kumara salad instead of the never before tried lamb's fry. A great call if you want salad or healthy. Loved the epic post impressionist painting on the main wall and cute wooden tables with flowers in glass bottles. Genuinely caring staff and obviously a great place if it was quite full at early lunchtime. Well worth a visit read more

Cafe Cezanne gets 3 stars thanks to the atmosphere and staff friendliness. I went there for a coffee/dinner and ordered one of the two soups on offer which was smoked capsicum and potato. I was sitting at a table opposite their cake cabinet and I couldn't help but marvel at the great choices they had, from caramel slices to lemon yogurt cake and banoffee pie. When the soup came however, it was a disappointment. The serving was large, which was great, but the soup was too salty and had unpleasant fibres (or were they fish bones?!) in it. I ate as much as I could but I could not finish it. The garlic bread was also less than average, just tasted industrial and greasy. The waiter saw that I did not finish the soup and asked for feedback and said he would let the chef know... I did feel a bit embarrassed but he said feedback was a way to improve things, which made me feel better. I really wanted to like it but unfortunately maybe this was the wrong choice. The dishes at other tables looked very well presented though and the servings looked huge (which is why I went for a soup, not being very hungry...). I would love to go back to Cafe Cezanne though to try something else and make sure I have time and space in my stomach for one of their amazing looking cakes. Another day, another breakfast on Ponsonby Road. The choice in this part of town is sometimes a little hard to digest, but fortunately at Cafe Cezanne, the food is not. The Big Kiwi Breakfast lives up to it's name with a pile of hash browns, eggs and sausage on really flavoursome toast. It was a fantastic soother to my hangover. It's not quite as big as the calorific Mexican Breakfast which overshadows it with masses of cheese, eggs, beans sour cream on a Frisbee sized tortilla. Beware of ordering a large coffee too, mine was delivered in a soup bowl. Regrettably I was too full to sample one of the deserts displayed on the counter, but I will be sure to make a return visit for something sweet. read more

When I sit down for some breakfast at Cafe Cezanne I always feel like I have made the healthy choice. This judgment is not necessarily based on what I choose to eat (usually something that has been fried), but just on the knowledge that they do have some healthy stuff on the menu which I might choose next time, plus the walls are colorful and arty so itis as if I am doing something organic and earthy. Very friendly staff who always have a smile on their faces, and they are perhaps the only place on Ponsonby Road who make a good late night coffee. read more
