Visited the Callingwood Spray Park today with the family in tow.
We were disappointed to find the log slide removed due to safety concerns leaving a significant empty spot.
This splash park is pretty new, having only opened in July of 2011.
Article from city of Edmonton announcing opening:

Since it's opening, the log slide was removed and a faux waterfall rock wall now has a sign that says no climbing - huh? A rock wall begs to be climbed by children.
PROS:
Large grass fields surround the majority of the spray park including adjacent fields for soccer, baseball, and a skatepark.
Green shack is staffed with friendly city employees who offer up supervision, first aid, and crafts! Today, my chitlins partook in painting, puppet making, and origami folding! The Green Shack is the reason this place is getting 3 stars - otherwise it would be a 2.
CONS:
There is no fence around this park and while there are fields against part of it, the south portion is against a parking lot - YIKES! I think it would be relatively easy to lose track of your child here on a busy day and the close proximity of the parking lot with no fence makes me quite nervous.
The main attraction, the log slide has been removed.
The washrooms were CLOSED today and the Green Shack staff told us that they were supposed to be opened July 1st but that it hasn't happened yet. Huge deal breaker for anyone potty training a toddler or allowing their children to change in and out of bathing suits in privacy.
The water attractions felt rather limited with most items gauged for the 2-6 age range.
There are no covered benches/tables.
There isn't a park attached or within sight to alternate between water/dry play which is usually phenomenal for telling kids it's time to dry off and giving them a 10 or 15 minute warning to leave.
Very little to virtually no shade and wide open - today was insanely windy even causing the bags to come out of the city garbage cans.
Overall, Callingwood Spray Park is not a park I would make the drive to return to and I definitely would not recommend a birthday here given the lack of shade and absence of a playground.
This spray park is a solid 2 based on the current state of the park but those phenomenal Green Shack peeps are bumping it up to a 3. read more
