This is a commuter school with most of my students s little older than those at UCLA (where I also use to teach). The students here want to be here, they don't take their education for granted. I really enjoyed taking classes at this often overlooked University this past semester. I had the same teacher for all my Global Logistics Classes. He was funny, detailed, and quite knowledgeable. The administrative and financial staff are friendly and helpful. However, the cashier called me a few times because she wrote my credit card information down wrong and I had to give it to her again. Other students in my classes also complained about this same issue. Parking can be an issue--especially on the weekends because of the Galaxy and Chargers games. In addition, they host a variety of promotional events. Parking is also expensive ($8.00/day). However, they are serviced by a few city bus companies. The campus itself is quite small compared to other Universities. However, they have a lot of land and keep expanding so I know that in the future they will offer a lot more classes than they do now. This campus also provides student housing and has a student health center. In addition, the student union is huge! The student union has a pretty big book store with a variety of promotional items and food. In addition, the student union has a big variety of places to eat, including a small cafe. There is also a lot of comfortable areas to come and study or relax with friends. read more

I received a letter in the mail from this school stating I have a past due balance. I applied to this school over 2 years ago, but never accepted enrollment. I have attempted to speak with admissions and student financial services for two days and have not succeeded in speaking with a real person. This is NOT a way to run a business. I don't understand how an actual student of the school could receive any of the necessary information they may need with 30+ minute hold times. read more

In honor of my 100th review, California State University of Dominguez Hills is the only thing that comes to mind. Out of many California State Universities, this college has proven to be the most wonderful college in so many ways. I cannot express my opinion towards the other programs offered here, other than the business department. Before I even received my AA degree from Harbor College, I have been hearing plenty of great things about CSUDH from other college students. So attending here to pursue my Business degree in Global Logistics and Supply Chain was a no brainer. Most of my instructors in the business department are highly informative and supportive towards the growth of the student's success. What do I mean by being supportive towards students? They don't care!!! They don't care if you show up to class, they don't care if you don't do you homework and they definitely don't give dung if you ace a test or not. Professors are not meant to hold students hands. On the other note, they are always available in giving great advices that will sure help students prepare for what is out in the real world. One of many key features that I like about in CSUDH is the decent size of the campus. The size of this campus is absolutely perfect. It is very easy to commute into this location since it in between the suburbs of Carson, along with other major freeways. This campus has a decent size of buildings and lunge areas, plenty of parking lots, making it easy for students to walk closer to class. Moreover, this campus probably has one of the most amazing glass libraries in any campus that I have ever visited. They also have several study lounge pockets in every buildings, where you can study in private. The food court center carries a decent amount of fast food. The classroom varies from new to older model, but regardless of its features, the classroom has provided many memorable lectures. There are plenty of diverse students that attend this university, all from different walks of life. I was able to meet many students from different countries and was able to learn and share our different cultures. Meeting various people and learning about their ideology, has sure helped me envelope a progressive thinking as well as a better understanding of humanity. The population are mixed in between age range from mid 20's and mid 30's. The campus does get crowded during daytime, regardless the population it never gets congested. This campus also provides several great gathering events, ranging from; block parties, club rush week events, karaoke nights, open mic nights, speed dating and many more. These events are catered to allow students to mix and mingle amongst each other. Students in this campus are very active in many programs and club. These clubs are equipped to challenge student's leaderships and teamwork. The culture of this University consists of hard working individuals. They don't allow their college status define their success, but believes in pursuing your own success through perseverance and courage. read more

Cal State Dominguez Hills isn't one of the most known schools in the world, but I thought it was a great school. I had some professors from USC/UCLA and other "prestigous" universities and they were great. The classes weren't overwhelmingly sized so you could actually learn something. The campus was going through some renovations at the time so I'm sure students have a better student life there now, but it was still good back then as well. Good people, fun crowd, pretty chill, and a commuter school; at least when I was there. Schedules were good, parking was decent, and I was in the computer labs a lot at the time. Can't live without a computer right? They had good online classes as well. School full time, working full time + OT, volunteering, and having a personal/social life while living in Garden Grove was difficult but CSUDH made it all possible. :) Thanks! read more

This is an undiscovered gem. Alumni have been known to refer to it as Cal State Who? But don't let the low profile fool you. You can get a decent education at CSUDH. For those of you who haven't heard of the school before, it's those buildings just east of the Home Depot Center. The school is not that well known for a few reasons. One, it is largely a commuter campus. Two, it is not as large as the other Cal State U's in the area (Northridge, LA, Fullerton and of course Long Beach). And three, a large percentage of the student body is well beyond what most people consider college age. As a commuter campus serving Palos Verdes, Compton, Manhattan Beach, Wilmington and everything in between, CSUDH has one of the most ethnically and socio-economically diversified student bodies in the world. Being a smaller school means that students actually get to walk into a professor's office, sit down and have a conversation. (So can alumni.) Many, if not most, of the students are evening students who have full time day jobs. This means that they bring a maturity and focus to their work that you won't find at the average college or university. Although the school is not known for its athletic program, they have fielded respectable teams in baseball and soccer. And the campus does have a world class velodrome (a bicycle track; the campus hosted the '84 Olympic bicycle track races). As with any school, some departments are better than others and some profs are better than others. Do your homework before deciding, but at least consider CSUDH. Commuters wanting to avoid parking hassles and traffic on the 405, 110 and 91 can use Metro 52/352, 53, 130, 205, 446/447 or the Torrance 6. read more

As a graduate of a UC, I can tell you that as an undergrad you will not get anything close to the college "experience" that kids at USC, UC, or even larger CSUs get to have. The campus is dead and greek life here is a joke. However, much of the students here are either commuters, older, or doing pre-gradschool work like myself, so that doesn't really matter much anyway. But let me tell you, as a non-undergrad who just wants to get in and get out without hassle, you don't know how much I appreciate a small school like DH. Parking is never and issue here, lines are generally negligible (except financial aid in sept), and traffic...what traffic? People here are nice and mind their own business. The vast majority of the campus is either hispanic or black, and students here seem to be pretty mature. From the outside, CSUDH seems to have spent good money making the campus look nice, ranging from new electronic signs on the outskirts of the school, to newer-looking admin and food court areas, and a new library currently being built. But beyond that, the actual buildings where you spend your days in class are largely carryover from 1960. A little sad. Rather than lecture halls, classes take place in small classrooms that fit 60 people max. If you're coming here for sciences, be prepared for an underfunded department with only one section for each class (you're stuck with that professor), no TAs, and professors that are either hit or miss. And since classes are so small, adding certain sections can be difficult. At the end of the day however, you'll still get your education. With all the budget cuts and furlough days going on, thank jebus the financial aid system still works like a charm. My classes are mostly covered by grants, and CSU is much much cheaper than UC. If you're looking for an easy-going place to do post-bacc work, finish prerequisites for grad school, or check out hispanic girls, I would suggest DH as a calmer alternative to Fullerton or Long Beach. read more

I LOVE my alma mater. I did my undergrad studies here, I work here, and I will probably die here (jay kay it's not that serious). People like to talk crap about it but I am a firm believer that you get what you put in. If you are one of those kids that just goes to class to cash a financial aid check, then yea, you suck too. DH was my first choice because of its communications program. I personally graduated with experience (from my required internships), a writing sample (from my required THESIS...yea I didn't stutter), and networking skills from being involved in the Greek life and various on-campus organizations. The small classes allowed my professors to know me by name and if you claim not to get the help you need is because you don't SEEK it. Professors have office hours, there are several tutoring centers, and countless resources that students fail too notice because they are engrossed with their smart phones (your bad boo). And for all those that call it Cal State Compton, you better believe we Toros have a higher likelihood to survive a drive-by. That street cred tho! read more

With the completion of the Loker Student Union, we finally have stable places to buy food--no more roach coach for us. Quiet=you can study anywhere. Ahhh good ol CSUDH. This place is like a nice warm blanket for me. After a not-so-motivated previous attempt to complete my BS here many years ago (and recently returning once I felt I was good and ready to go back to school), I can now say that I put forth a good effort and finished up here with flying colors. Of course all of this is attributed to the faculty, most of whom were absolutely wonderful. I can't speak for the other schools/programs here, but in the business school, the majority of the instructors really do care about doing a good job....and it definitely shows. If you are lazy, complaining, or want to play victim, welllll you might not feel the same way. Just go do something else and you might be happier is my advice. You can slip through here with total mediocrity too if that's your inclination - the only thing I can tell you is that you will get as much out of this place as you decide and allow yourself to. If anyone needs a quick list, here are the professors that I feel really made a difference for me in some way or another: Christodoulidou, Chu, Pourmohammadi, Holguin, Norman, M. Zhao, Freed, Jenner, Shabbir, Celly, Lugo, Salhi, Abo-Hebeish. Proceed at your own risk, however, your mileage may vary with some of these folks. The campus itself is perfectly sized, parking is never a big issue, and the recently revamped (and now super nice!) student union has some decent food selection and lounge area. There's even a bar, how much better can things get?!?! The recently built mega library is state of the art and quite impressive - there's even some rotating art exhibits on the 4th floor - check it out if you get a chance! Many, many very good friendships were spawned here as well, which I will always be thankful for. =o) As far as my own aspirations, I only came back to finish my BS so that I could continue on to an MBA. But during this last stint a couple of the above mentioned professors really mentored me and pointed me towards an academic career. I'm now off to the great Anthill of OC for a brutal engineering/economics PhD journey....talk about a 180-degree career change! Hopefully I can come back to this nice cozy place as a professor in the not too distant future to pass knowledge on to others. (Yes, that's how much of a warm blanket this place is for me! I'm a graduate student here getting my Master's in Nursing with an emphasis on the Clinical Nurse Leader Role (MEPN). I love this campus and the new library is beautiful! The campus itself is well kept (very clean), the buildings are spread out (unlike a lot of other CSU's), and I love how there are a lot of different (free) resources available to all students (ie. computer lab, printing, etc.). The parking here is never a problem (again, UNLIKE other CSU's and UC's) and the Loker Student Union has a good selection of different foods/beverages to choose from. Also, we are connected to the Home Depot Center which is the home of the LA Galaxy Soccer Team... that's pretty cool! I would have given my school 5 stars but I don't like that the library closes early (8-9pm). Since it is a University, I feel the library should be accessible to all students at all times of the day/night (or at least be open a little later -- as most of us don't get our real studying in until the wee hours of the night!). I hear the Undergraduate teachers are very good. My grad program is going well and I graduate in May. I'm very happy here :) read more

I have been a staff employee for the IT Dept at Cal State Univ Dominguez Hills for about a year now and can honestly say that I wish I knew about this campus when I was still a college student. I went to CSUN and had no idea CSUDH was closer to my home. This campus offers various types of ungrad and graduate degrees; I am even planning on completing my MBA at this school. The campus is mainly comprised of commuter students who seem quite serious about obtaining their degrees. The campus grounds are very well kept, classrooms are decent, and best of all, there is always plenty of parking. read more

So far so good here at CSUDH. 2nd semester here and have not had any big issues that interfere with my learning environment. Unless pot holes in the parking lot or feeling like a minority are a concern for you then YES please look elsewhere? (unbelievable if it is) Library is pretty awesome but I have to agree with previous rating about closing time being way too early. There is a reason why there is so much turnover in terms of staff and administrators. Paperwork is lost all the time so please keep copies of anything you turn into A&R. In addition, people make up policies as they go so beware. Go to any school but this one. All I got was debt because they closed my department. (I really wish I was joking- they said there wasn't enough people so we were the last cohort with no announcement. What am I supposed to do with all these units now) Things got so bad I cc the dean in all my emails with my department chair who still couldn't be bothered to respond to the dean when he got involved. As an Alumni, I really recommend this school. Classes are small, except for one Upper Division Requirement class with Dr. Rosen. But besides that most are small. I think it's easier and better way to learn. You get a chance to meet your professors and talk to them, compare to my experience at SDSU. Campus is really safe. It is small and it's not a party school which I think it's a plus because most people go to study. So there's no distractions. read more

I attended CSUDH from Fall 2014 to Fall 2015. I came here as a transfer student from Cerritos College and I had a solid plan of what I needed to do to graduate. This school was not my first choice, and the only reason I even applied was because it was the only school still accepting applications for Fall 2014. I was not sure what to expect and I'm happy to say that this school is pretty great. First of all, I love how diverse this school is. No matter who you are, you will almost certainly fit in. Second, this school is great for students who work in addition to going to school or who have families. I can't speak for other majors, but within Sociology there were many courses offered during the evenings, online, and on weekends. If a course is not offered during a time you can attend, the person in charge of scheduling is open to hearing suggestions. During my second semester I emailed her about considering adding a certain course, and they did it. I can't speak to much of the campus life because my classes were mainly taken at night or on the weekend, but I wish I had been able to be more involved. Lastly, the faculty is great. Now, I'm sure there are some terrible professors and faculty members here, but I was lucky enough to have not encountered any of them. This was mostly due to reading reviews of each professor on Rate My Professor. While not every professor I took was exceptional, there were several who really stood out and impacted me. They encouraged me and really made me thinks about things I've never thought much about before. One issue I have with this school is that the parking sucks. There isn't enough parking for all the students and if you take classes during the weekday expect to wait. Also, on Sundays there are sometimes soccer games at the StubHub stadium and they use CSUDH for parking. This sucks if you take Sunday classes and you need to make sure you get to school early to navigate the craziness. My biggest issue with CSUDH is the lack of full time, tenured professors at this school. There are so many wonderful adjunct professors at this school who need to be made full time and given the resources to do the best job they can. I've had professors who went above and beyond to help their students, and I wish this school valued them as much as the students do. Many of the professors are not able to give their best to their students because they don't have a consistent place to hold office hours, and they are too crunched for time because they have to work at multiple schools just to get by. Not having more full time faculty members is a disservice to the school, the professors, and the students. Overall I really like this school and while it's not my first choice for graduate school, it is my second choice and I would be more than happy to continue my education here. read more

I was at Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson, CA on 1/28/2017. I've been there many times before. This time I was there to see a basketball game, actually two basketball games. Both games were played in their Torodrome. In the 1st game, the Toros beat the Cal State L.A. women by a score of 75-62. Following that game, the men's Toros team defeated the Cal State Los Angeles men's team by a score of 80-64. It was not a good night for the visiting Golden Eagles. Plus, I took photos. read more

I sent in a petition for course waiver last semester and was told it would take 6 months to get a response, and somehow they told me that the paperwork was lost. I spent over an hour with the advisory working on this petition, and there are even notes on my student profile regarding the classes I am trying to waive. I used to think this place was alright, but this situation was the last straw. I am in my last semester and the counselors just happened to lose my petition paperwork? This is completely ridiculous and the people in charge of collecting/storing these petitions need to do a better job. read more

If you want an honest review, then here it is. I am a senior. Complaints: -The majority of students who attend here commute. What does that mean? You either hope that you're able to find a parking spot on the street, or you will have to fork up big money for a parking permit. In Fall 2016, the price to park for a semester was $110, and as of Fall 2019 it is $155... Over three years the price has inflated by more than $40. Want to know about daily parking tickets? Do NOT ask. Basically these increases every year too which makes it useless to buy, and therefore you are pressured into getting the parking permit. So if you drive to school 2 days out of the week, then you still lose money if you decided to just buy day-passes. Good luck finding parking in the morning, afternoon, and in the evening. You're going to walk from the complete end of the lot under the sun to get to class. Or you may even have to cross two entire parking lots. Ridiculous, right? Also, why do they continue selling permits if you may not even find parking? If you do, then most likely you spent 15 minutes driving in circles. -Development of new science building and housing. Problem? Why would resources be used to fund that when the school desperately needs a parking structure? Perhaps a multi-level? Additionally, some of thee old buildings look like forgotten 1970 buildings: cobwebs clustered around, dirt marks all across, chipping paint, and unused/crap gardens. Compliments: -Most of the professors I've had do make an effort to keep their lecture entertaining. Nothing is worse than a very dry lecture that's given by an instructor who cannot make the effort to show his or her students that he or she actually gives a fuck about being there and teaching the students. Now that I've been going to CSUDH for the last four years, I can give an accurate review. The campus itself is clean and well maintained. There are plenty of shade spots, trees, and lots of hills and slopes that add a nice decoration to the campus. The admin, student center and library buildings are all brand new and state of the art. Unfortunately, the actual classrooms are mostly from the 1960s and are in dire need of being upgraded. There is a computer and projector in each classroom for the teacher to show things from the Internet or show a film or whatnot. But the classrooms are in need of new paint jobs, better air circulation, and less desks per room. The teachers I have had have been a mixed bag. I am an English major, and most of the professors in the English Dept. are very knowledgeable and fair. There are a few professors who are unnecessarily harsh in the grading for Undergrad, and treat their subjects like they are the only ones that matter in your entire education. Overall, I have been happy with the professors and felt like I got my money's worth of an education. There are a slim few that need to lighten up a bit. The amenities have gotten better the last few years. A fire destroyed the old Student Center in 2006, so a new one was finished in 2008. It is state of the art and includes a sit down restaurant, a sports bar, and a food court with Subway, Taco Bell, Dragon Chinese Food, Johnny's Pizza, and a university-owned DH Cafe with burgers, sandwiches, etc. You will not go hungry at this school. Also in the Student Center is an adequate book store, a bank, and various meeting rooms for groups and the Student Council. The campus is very quiet. If you want a raucous, crazy college experience, you should go somewhere else. Everyone pretty much minds their own business around here and the student life is non-existent. There are some frats and sororities, but I never see them doing anything actually on the campus. The sports teams have a little presence on campus, but not too much. The student population is very diverse. There is not one single ethnic group that dominates. Overall, everyone is very friendly. Crime is not bad at all, except for a few car break ins at the dorms every now and then. Parking is never an issue, as there are plenty of lots surrounding the school. Parking permits are $90 a semester, though. Overall, a very relaxed collegiate atmosphere. A great place to get a degree without all of the other nonsense at bigger colleges, if that is your thing. read more

I'm in the distance learning program. Everything is online and each class costs $1,500 for the regular timeframes and $850 for the six week courses. Some instructors are not bad but others will make life hard. It is surprising how expensive the classes are despite not needing to set foot on campus and the lack of one on one attention. But I recommend it if you need a 4 year degree to be considered for a job. Hope it's all worth it after all my loans finally come to bite me in the butt. read more

CSUDH is a commuter college, students who attend in the evenings really want to be there and there are good professors. There have been improvements in getting a new student union and bookstore mysteriously but that's another story. Things have changed over time. If you want to attend here do your research about what you want to accomplish because academic advisors are not always helpful. Hold onto every receipt because the school is very lax in record keeping and will attempt to kick you out for not taking the writing test after you pass it. Don't hesitate to take your issues to the top. When i attended three the Theater Dept was not that supportive of students but if you are a go-getter you can use what you learn and still succeed outside of that institution. Get to know students and share information. The school will withhold information about testing out for math if you have a learning difference. You can go to disabled student services and be tested for differences. If you meet the criteria you can petition for exception and take an alternate math course depending on your major. But they will not tell you that. Disabled student services is not that helpful. You have to fight for what you need. It may be better now, just be strong. I don't like the way Stub Hub and HD have overrun the campus. On evenings their parking attendants will try to hustle you to pay to park even if you have a parking pass. Cuss them out and they will leave you alone. Some campus police are blind and will ticket your car even though you have a valid permit. File a complaint and fight the ticket. The illiterate officer will claim that he didn't see it but he's lying. You can win if you stand your ground and write it out. Don't back down. Three stars. It's an ok school if you hang in there and know what you want. As an alumni they only care about certain people. They don't acknowledge everyone's accomplishments but will ask for money. They got enough, my $15K education is paid off, so they will get not another dime from me. I requested to be taken off of their mailing list due to their non interest in me and they complied. Also don't bother with their job placement service. The advisors there will just try to convince you to attend grad school there and deride you if you don't agree. It's a good commuter school. Just don't expect a whole lot. read more

CSUDH was a great experience for me. I transferred here from Elco and it was a convenient and affordable transition. The school is accredited and local...I couldn't ask for more. It saddens me that people give a lot of gripe about Elco and CSUDH, these schools are really worth your time and investment. As I mentioned in my elco post, your only college experience should be the education. Classes were pretty plentiful when I was attending a few years ago and I do have some classmates who are still attending and having no problem getting their courses. This school clearly does not care about students and simply wants money. The advising/admissions team is incompetent, they rescinded my acceptance 2 weeks before school started which was a mistake on their end. They then had to readmit me after quite an ordeal, but they dropped me from all the classes I had been enrolled in for 2 months and did not help put me back in them despite this being their mistake. They also lost my transcripts 3 times and made me pay for them to be resent 3 times! Despite me having an AA for transfer for csu, they are making me take countless 100 level G.E classes even though I have a degree saying I have completed my 100 level G.E classes. As a transfer student I should be able to easily graduate in 2 years if I take the proper amount of classes. Instead I am overloading each semester and taking a full semester online over summer and will still barely meet the requirements to graduate after 2 years. I have only met on advisor who is even half way considerate, everyone else has been extremely rude and unhelpful despite the numerous mistakes they have made. I would not recommend this school at all. the campus is subpar, the advising/admissions makes so many mistakes that you have to fix, and they are not very friendly. read more

Worst school ever!!! Everyone who works in a administration position is lazy and rude. Being in my second year I can't wait to finish my 60 units and transfer to another CSU. Teachers are also lazy and do not push the students. I felt more academically challenged in middle school than I do here. The advisors are also horrible. My advisor contacted me saying I could not take 18units a semester. You actually can, but I wasn't. I took 3 in the winter and 15 in the spring. When I told her that she told me I was wrong and to drop a class... I think I know my own schedule. Financial aid office is also horrible. Always rude and are offended when you aren't sure what the right question is to ask. (I couldn't begin saying that they were wrong). Never answer the phone and since I had surgery I couldn't drive myself to the school. Am now pending because they haven't fixed their loan error that I informed them via email a week ago. Classes are also small and have bugs. Have found two cockroaches in my class and somehow the bathrooms are always closed due to water problems. This school definitely needs to updated and if you care about your child do not send them here. Update: it has been 2 months and I am still waiting on my financial aid to come through. They told me I had to fill out additional paperwork and when I brought it in the next day they said come back later when I had a copy of my parents ID. Seriously. read more

To me this campus is like a tranquil gem of a Cal State. I transferred here from El Camino and immediately this campus gave off cc vibes. All of my classes were intimate which enabled me to get to know my peers as well as my professors. Personally I didn't just feel like a number here. I received my BA here and am now going back for my post bach. I already love this program I am in. The teachers are so passionate and approachable. read more

I am attending CSUDH for my BA and soon my Masters. The campus is pretty nice. They repaved the Victoria St parking lot and it looks great! There are maps all over campus so it's pretty impossible to get lost. There seems to be a good selection of food in the student union. I've never eaten there myself though, I bring my own lunch. I love the library!!! It's high and covered in windows so you get plenty of natural light. There are lots of computers available for use and plenty of places to sit and study. They have rooms for groups to work on projects with white boards and computers in them. read more

This is in regard to the Convergence/Social Media Marketing class. Though this is a non-credit class series, there are a few things people must know. While the concept is very much in tune with digital media marketing, the execution was another story. The good was that it allowed some creativity and taught some creative writing techniques. Not good was the constant celebrity name-dropping by the instructor and her attempts to be hip, I guess. During the first half hour of one class, she played Macklemore music videos in their entirety. There was no direct connection to viral marketing and even other classes complained about it being too loud and distracting. Because I'm on SSDI, the state paid the tuition but truthfully, I learned more about marketing at community college. The Hootsuite Social Media Marketing certification program costs less and individual courses are more direct. Finally, most of the books required were either written and self-published by someone the instructor knew or were books she'd worked on. Update: I just withdrew from an unrelated course and I'm having the hardest time getting my refund. Minus (-) star. It's 5/23 and not only have I not received my refund but the continuing education office is giving me the runaround. Had to take my case to administration office. Update (6/26/16): I got my refund but I was told it would be in the form of a check, not direct deposit. Had to contact someone in Student Finances for a resolution. read more

I have been on the phone for 1 hour and 20 minutes trying to get a hold of someone on extended education to drop a class. I have been trying to drop a class since September 1 now and have not been able to get a hold of anyone in extended education. These crooks are just here to steal money from the poor! I wish I never joined this graduate program because of their poor customer service. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU WANT GOOD SERVICE! read more

My complaint is about the COE dept. I am in the Master's program now and Depart. Chair Kate Esposito has been holding a grudge against me for a critique from 2004. She has refused to answer basic advisement questions and she dropped me from 3 courses toward my Master's. I have gone to administration to make a formal complaint and nothing has been done. She has made racist comments about Compton, a place where the school is located. A place where I live and love. She tends to cater to people who drive in from Santa Monica or Orange county. read more

I have taken courses at nearby LMU, and at Santa Monica College. I honestly could not say that one public university or college is better than another. You still have to work your butt off to pass calculus and physics just like any other school. The teachers vary, after taking so many classes at different colleges I have learned that it doesn't matter what the teacher is like, just get out with as high a grade as you can. CSUDH is a great place to get a degree, and the people who talk bad about it are just not doing anyone here a favor. If you do your research, every university, whether it's a UC or a Cal State or private university, has it's pits. No matter what school you go to, you will have that "easy class" or "easy teacher" who grades "easy". It's your belief in this school that can help make it a great school, it has all the potential to be a great school. So believe in it, and watch it's reputation grow as a exceptional place of higher learning. Like any public university here in California, it follows a strict educational standard held to all the other cal states and UC's. It's not easy. I do so much work to pass calculus and physics...
