i was renovating my home. A family member is a contractor and handled the renos. I got several estimates and designs from his closet contractors. I was not quite happy with any of them. But they were very well-priced. I looked into several retail-level custom closet companies including California closets. They were all similarly priced (easily 3x more than my contractor's contacts, or even more). But among them all, California stood out for their service. I dealt with Kayla, who came to my home to take measurements. She drafted a design. Modified it to my preferences several times. Their software is super slick and I got sent 3D previews. Most impressive is their incorporation of all the obstructions, sprinklers, switches, etc on the walls which are shown in the animated previews too. You get a very good idea of the final product. Come installation day, 2 guys showed up to do all the work. They were slow, but having seen contractors do work for years now, these guys were definitely meticulous. I cannot complain about any of the service provided from design to installation, or the final product. Top notch, as far as closets go. There are a ton of customization options. Whats wrong with California closets? well, they are expensive. very expensive. And any extra choices beyond basic closets is a substantial upcharge. I had received quotations from other companies even before I met Heather. Not only was the consultation and design experience a whole different level from other companies but the entire experience with California Closes was an absolute pleasure. They kept me informed on my order, the pricing was transparent and within our budget (Heather was very accommodating of that in the design) and the workmen (Ebrahim and Sayed) who arrived on the day were meticulous in both their workmanship and keeping the place tidy so that we could still move around. They were done in the exact time they said and noticed flaws before I did which were rectified before they left the site, The end result in our garage, dining room and bedroom is fantastic. Terrible! Had to wait for ever for installment, they change de dates 3 times, the technician broke a shelves while doing the installation and they literally screw the pocket door while installing the shelves in the closet!!! AND the entire installment collapsed after 2 weeks in the middle of the night - I still wake up at night thinking it is happening again! I spare you the pictures. They investigated to conclude that the first technician did not solidify the structure the right way. Seriously. They came back to fix it but trust and credibility is severely damage. read more

I did some research before I contacted California closet to build a new wardrobe in the small bedroom. I had about 3 on the list before I met Kayla, the designer, in our home for a free consultation. I did not know much about California closet before and during my research reading many reviews I read repeated reviews mentioning CC charges high price, they are very professional, and many customers are happy with the result. So, I postponed 2 other consultations from other companies and made the first appointment with CC. When I first met Kayla, I wanted to go with CC because she was Friendly! professional and nice person to work with. Only thing that I hesitated a little before signing the contract was the price. Yes, as I read from other reviews, the quote I got was more than my budget in my mind. But Kayla, suggested many ways to build the wardrobe the way I wanted, so I decided to go with her. She, never, pushed me or give me pressure to go with CC. She just suggested many ways in very professional manner. As an artist myself, I liked the way she worked with the client^^ so I decided to pay more than I initially planned expecting a great quality looking wardrobe at the end. I am very happy with the result. High quality design, material and assembly teams. And a great adjustment was done after the first installation to make things better. It took me more time and money than I initially planned, but I am very happy with my new wardrobe which makes the whole room shiny. If anyone want to make certain space specially cared, ask California closet to do it. I still need to build more storages in my home, but because of the budget I decided to do one space we care the most with California closet. It was a great decision ever. Everything was seamless, from making the appointment, to the designer (Zainub) showing up for the consultation, the entire design process, to Dylan installing the unit. My overall experience with California Closets was great. They are very professional and offer high quality closets. I went to their local store on Granville St. to get a quote and see their products. Sue was the person who helped us there. She was very helpful and friendly by showing us the style of closets they offer, the starting prices etc. We scheduled an in-home consultation so we could talk more about what I want, her suggestions and how much it would be. Sue arrived in my place on the right time and she gave us great ideas. The consultation has no commitment and she didn't make any pressure about that. We got quote from other companies, but her ideas, professionalism and the finishing options were the best for us. The price was higher than the most of the other companies, but we were so confident about her job that we decided to go ahead and do it. Around 4 weeks later, our media center was beautifully installed with no problem! They came to my place, installed the media center on the wall and cleaned everything. Very deceptive name, it's more than just closets. Basically anything in your home AND garage, that's why I was here. Don't you ever get bored of looking at a garage, that cement feel? These guys have the solution, they can pretty well Martha Stewart anything lol. Even the workshop, not that I would really need to, but they can make a tough, anti-scratch that can take a beating...they have this in the very back display if someone's interested. And $8,000 lighter in your wallet haha. Sharlene's pretty friendly and clever, knew when to draw in the missus to show the closet drawers, which I have to admit, back in my GQ days, I would've drooled over the tie and sock drawers: cute little plastic individual holders, in a 6 x 8 format or whatever (I can't even tell from the pic lol), but here's the bonus---a dimmed light too. custom-make of course ;) And auto-close drawers just from a gentle push. Do not deal with California Closets (especially the Burnaby location) The customer service is terrible and it is overly priced for the same melamine material you can get from another company. Honestly, save your money as you will pay 1/3 of the price going with another company. Not impressed by the designer who screwed up my closets and then the manager who constantly repeated that i signed a contract and agreed to what the designer offered. i decided to go with this company as they are the experts and trusted them. California closets is expensive, but it is a full-service experience and very high quality. We had our designer create for us a wall of built-in bookshelves and cabinetry in our living room. It is the showcase of the home. It's spectacular! The design process was painless and fun. It did take about 6 weeks between putting down a deposit and actually getting the project installed. This was a longer wait time than we were initially told. However, this is likely because this job was more complex than most, and I must say the wait was worth it. The contractors were all fabulous! Polite, efficient, and made sure every details was postcard-perfect. That is a rare experience, and made the whole thing enjoyable and fun, as renovations should be. Our designer, Susanne, messed up all the measurements, nothing fits. We have to rejig everything and it's not what I was expecting at all. The veneer is peeling, the drawer lining is already fraying, and the installation isn't even complete. We paid $8,000 for a bedroom closet and I would've way happier with IKEA. These include problem between design and engineering, resulting in a measurement issue, and also miscommunication with installation scheduling and accounting, as today (months later) I have been approached by accounting to pay for work that was never completed. SO much more fits into that little closet now and it's perfectly organized - even looks great! People always ask me about it.
