Unfortunately the reputation did not align. Yes, they are very expensive. Did the work match the price?Absolutely not. They cut corners (pun intended), disregard the companies standards, and disappoint. From poor designing, scratched materials, elementary installation, and a very argumentative general manager, this company simply disappoints. The customer service as well is minimal. Emails do not get responded to, installers seem depressed, the general manager seems to have status as if he is better than others and comes across belittling, and so much more. Learned this first hand while on site at my own home (pertaining to the general manager). Very unimpressed. You can see from the videos and photos what I am referring to. There are many options out there these days, and unfortunately this coming has gotten too comfortable and is lacking craftsmanship and integrity. I would avoid them. read more

Kyle who installed the piece is five stars and the piece looks beautiful, and while not hard wood, I found the price reasonable. Hopefully, it will be long lasting and withstand use. I didn't do a closet but actually a great room piece, and there wasn't a lot of inspiration to draw from, so five stars for me for designing this piece. My designer was nice and kind and patiently worked with my many questions and changes. As mentioned, I did wish they had more inspiration and I was given more resources and ideas for what I wanted. This came from hours and hours of me searching Pinterest, Instagram and really myself coming up with a design that I wanted. And I got there, but again, it took up so much time vs it being something that was shared or designed by CA Closets. I also had to review the design CAD and the contract very closely as a few details were missed by the designer (and we both still missed a shelf). While not a deal breaker, it wasn't a flawless experience. Overall, I would definitely use CA Closets again. For the price and the piece, it worked out. My specific piece was a bit trickier than a closet or entry room, but other than investing a ton in a custom wood piece, this was the best option for the best price relative if I were buying a few different pieces from Crate, Pottery Barn or West Elm. read more

Poor communication. Closet designer/general manager Dan completed two walk-in closet measurements in May 2023 and stated he would contact me the following week with the CAD design. After two weeks and no communication from Dan, I called California Closets Reno twice to get an update and left messages but no response. It's been nearly a month and still no response. I moved on to another closet design company that is already showing a 100% better communication/customer service. California Closets Reno's poor customer service is not worth your time or money. Customers can get the same product and feel better about spending thousands of dollars with other closet companies in Reno. read more

The whole process from design to install was fantastic!Shelly is so nice, she came over with her computer and we designed our space together. It was for our laundry space and it had some challenges to overcome but she did and we are so happy! We made a lot of changes and had questions before finalizing and Shelly was always so responsive and understanding. We even asked her to come back to design another closet the next week! Working with Shelli from California Closets-Reno was a pleasure. The in-home design of my primary closet was as promised. Shelli, did a great job with the space. She listened to my wants/needs for the closet and offered design options which fit nicely with my budget. I loved the final design, and appreciated there was no attempt to upsell. Went to the store, no help need to talk with a consultant & designer. Made 4 phone calls to connect and got USA Bath and still no help. No call back, left messages no call back, Lots of recordings but no real person to give a bid or entertain the project. Still no contact from a designer or even a manager who's voice message says I'll be back to you within an hour during business hours. If its this hard to get a bid I can't imagine what it would be like to have them in your home doing a project. read more

I had installed custom closets in my Bay Area condo and used California Closets in Berkeley. Once I had this done, I knew I couldn't live without them in my new Truckee home. So I contacted the general number in the Truckee area and made an appointment which ended up being the Reno branch. And right from the start, I felt like I was in good hands with designer Jennifer. The design process was fun, effortless, and competitively priced. I had so much going on during the moving process and she made sure that I didn't have to worry about this project. And once installation day came, this was when I met Edgar for the first time. What an amazingly talented young man. Again, I was in good hands. He got a big project done in one day with ease, neatness, and professionalism. A true gem. When it came time to design my garage, I worked with Dan Dumond since Jennifer was on a personal LOA. This was another terrific experience as he had attention to detail, had great design ideas, and made sure I was taken care of from start to finish. And of course, I requested Edgar for my installation again. This was a big project and once more, he didn't let me down. He stayed until job was done, was polite, professional, and is truly a skilled and talented carpenter. I appreciate the follow through from Jeremy on the production team. He has stayed in touch with me throughout the process to make sure all projects on target and mainly to make sure I'm happy. And no doubt I am. I cannot express how thrilled we were with every phase of our interaction with Dan Dumond and his team members. They did not give me the option of painting prior to install or backing to cover the removed portion. I feel it is unfinished looking, however, with the cloths in you can't tell. Make sure you ask about backing or separate install and removal times. read more

If you want custom cabinets this is the place to call. We've used them on 3 different occasions and I'm in the process of using them again to finish up our utility room sink. I love that they offer a design right on sight and are able to make changes right away. They have a wide range of finishes available. It only takes a few weeks for it to arrive and they're installers have always been very professional and nice. Just had our master bedroom closet designed and installed. We were informed ahead of time that removal of previous racks would leave holes in the walls that would best be repaired and the walls painted prior to installation - which we did. The design process was smooth and our designer (Shelli Wahl) was extremely helpful. Computer models of the design were emailed to us and several revisions made prior to installation. The closet was ready several weeks earlier than we expected and our installer (Jake) was very professional and did an excellent job. We are extremely pleased with the finished product. read more

Ordered a built in shelving unit and bar for our living room. The design process and installment were a breeze, but when I got home the day of install the glass installed was not what I had chosen and the hardware was the wrong color. I also have my selections in email. I called Dan immediately that evening and he told me not to worry, he'll fix it and they will call me to schedule to replace the mistake within 3-4 weeks. I emailed him with an ETA at 4 weeks no response. I called 2 weeks later and was told he would call me that day - no call. Again I called the next day, no call. Now I'm getting annoyed. Then I call AGAIN and they say someone will call me by the end of the day to schedule the install. Someone calls a couple hours later saying they are 10 minutes from my house on a weekday when I am at work to take the doors back to redo the glass. Really??? I'm expected to sit with an unfinished product for who knows how long after I was told it would be a quick fix in my home and no one will ever get back to me? The installer said Dan would call me the next day to explain further, but he still has not called amazingly. The communication here is terrible and I STILL don't have what I ordered. I was planning to use them for the rest of my home as projects come up but I will never again. We'll see if I ever get my glass and hardware replaced I'm now on day 5 of hounding them after waiting 6 weeks from the day of install. Update: a few hours after posting this review they called and a week later we had everything finally fixed painlessly. read more

California Closets installed a custom master bedroom closet for us in 2013. There was one small detail that needed extra attention, and they made the effort to fix it, no questions asked. We are extremely happy with the design, the landings, the drawers and the layout. Now that it's 2020, there has been some wear and tear. One of the pull-out bars has broken. Guess what? CC is standing behind their product and replacing it with no charges. When I do the rest of my closets, I know who I'll be calling. read more

California Closets is very customer oriented. We had our San Francisco condo closets done by them (superb job), so when we decided to do our garage storage in Reno we went with them. Dan did a superb job designing our garage storage. He was very willing to incorporate our goals into the plan and customize the design. Edgar did an excellent job of installing the cabinets and Omni Track rails. He even made on-site changes to take into account various personal preferences not anticipated during the design process. Our garage looks like it belongs in a show room or an advertisement. Everything is put away or hanging up in a very tidy manner. The quality of products and workmanship are outstanding! read more

Designer came out about a month ago and said he would get back to us with a quote for the project. I have not heard from him or the company since. I made several calls to California Closets, left messages for the designer, sent emails. No response. I can't comment on their work but I can say that there customer follow-up is one of the worst I have ever experienced. read more

We contacted 4 of the major closet contractors in town, California closets, Closet Masters, Closets by design, and Sierra Nevada Cabinets and Closets. Our closet is very small, 5'x10'. Our neighbor's closet on the other hand is almost exactly twice the size of ours. Their quote came in at $2800. Our quote came in at $3100. Hmm, don't really see how that is possible considering our closet was half the size of theirs and they were going to charge $300 more???? And furthermore, our bid didn't include half of what theirs included. Furthermore the woman sales person response to the discrepancy was "well sometimes people lie." Yeah, they were not lying to us but thanks for your uncalled for response. Ultimately we went with Ron at Sierra Nevada Cabinets and Closets. Update: 5/14/15 Dan from California closets called after hearing about our experience. I Felt they deserved an extra star based on his follow up with me. Dan seemed genuinely concerned about our initial experience with the design consultant who came out and gave us our quote. Had Dan come out originally we may have been in a different spot. Dan did attempt to make up for our initial experience, but by that time we had already gone with Sierra Nevada Cabinets and Closets. Again, I cannot comment on the overall quality of the product, but only my feelings from the initial consultation. read more
