I brought my 2013 Altima in for a smog check and for brake service which I knew it was long overdue for (that screeching noise every time I hit the brakes was a definate give away). Jay did a preliminary inspection, eyeballing both the front brakes and the rear first. He correctly concluded the rear brakes were fine. He wasn't sure on the front but after a more thorough inspection determined that yup, they needed to be replaced. I waited about an hour and the total for both brakes and the smog check was $240 which I found reasonable. Overall it was quick and straightforward and I feel like I will be back here the next time the Altima Prime needs basic service/repairs. I was here two years ago and I decided to return because I remembered about the amazing service that I received. I came in at 10 am, two hours after opening. Total walk-on, hoping to get a smog check done. I didn't know what to expect because things could be busy for them and I didn't call in advance. I walked in and the staff member just smiled and welcomed me with open arms. We joked around and had a good laugh about the blaring music from the Zumba class from across the street during our conversation. I believe his name was Rega. He was extremely thoughtful and caring so I didn't have any worry at all. He pointed out some car problems that they think I should know but didn't pressure me into fixing anything in the spot. We recently moved to the area and our cars have both had their share of issues. Over the past 5 months we've needed to fix... - fuel injectors - catalytic converter - spark plugs and wires - a battery terminal I was able to do some of the work above, but due to time constraints, I opted out to try California Auto. I met Jay and right off the bat, you get this genuine sense of friendliness from him. Although the shop was busy, I didn't feel like I was bothering him. Jay took the time to walk me through the repair process and before he even took my car in, he recommended various things I could do (if I was handy) before I submitted the car in for work! I appreciate mechanics that are not just trying to take your business, but demonstrate a passion for their craft that goes beyond making a quick buck. Per Jay's recommendation I tried to run a catalytic cleaner solution in my gas tank to turn off the check engine light that was popping up due to my catalytic converter... no dice. Per Jay's recommendation I replaced the terminal on my car battery at home without the need to bring it into the shop... that worked! For the fuel injectors and the catalytic converter, I left my car(s) at the shop and received them both back within a 12 hour period. AMAZING! Upon receiving my cars back, It's great that Jay was willing to shoot the breeze with me and talk about (1) what they did to the cars, and (2) how business was going. I definitely recommend California Auto if you are in an auto bind and are in need of some honest work. First, let's start with everything that happened with the car, then I will later go into detail about the customer service. No one likes having car problems, my girlfriend and I had a huge one. For one, we needed to finish registration which meant we needed our bi annual smog check, we already knew we were going to fail, because our check engine light was on. We were offered a diagnosis for $65, and that would be used as part of the repair costs if we got it done there, smog check would be a free retest had we got it repaired there as well. Our catalytic converter wasn't functioning properly, most likely caused by the faulty O2 sensor we had. We got our car fixed in a couple hours, he didn't even charge us some of the labor fees. And next day after getting some miles on the car, we took it in and it passed smog. I feel like we got a wonderful deal. At any rate, let me discuss Reza, Reza should be a comedian on the side. He really calmed everyone's nerves here. He's a funny guy and had such a positive attitude, spirit and really hooked it up with what he could and I felt really comfortable leaving my car in his hands. Now it runs a whole lot smoother, I get more gas mileage and now I can finally register my car and stop panicking about being pulled over. read more

I found this place by using a coupon in a local Penny Saver for a smog check. I called in ahead to see if there was a wait, and they said they would be able to help me right away. When I arrived there were a couple mechanics and a smog technician. I was greeted and they took my keys and started up my smog check immediately. It took a total of about 20 minutes!! This is the worst place of all times for getting smog check. I was very dissapointed when I went here for smog check. They tried to fail your car when the car supposed to pass and then charge ridiculous amount of money. I took my car out to different smog check and got passed. I was about to take them out to legal matter when they not doing their job right and cheat on the service. This place will try to rob your money with very unprofessional service. Those guys working there are very disrespectful to customers. They does not know what they doing and it is a scam. This place does smog checks quick. I have brought two vehicles in and they were both quick. Larger vehicles (my minivan) cost $35 out the door, regular cars (my Honda Accord) was $30. The hospitality isn't great but for an auto garage, it's actually not bad. read more

Super nice guys, helped me out big-time with my pre-96 Explorer....the check engine light in my vehicle flashes on & off, during my smog check the light was on so it's supposed to "FAIL" the smog check but he turned the car off and then on again to see if the light would go out and it did so i passed. Right before my registration renewal was due, I went in with a coupon for a smog check. The guy informed me that this is not a TEST ONLY station. He must have sensed my panic.
