Traveling through Kingman and stopped at Calicos for dinner as it was close to where we were staying the night. We were greeted and seated immediately. The menu had variety of choice but we were both wanting a salad after a diet of travel food for days. We found the soup salad choice to be for us. There were two soups- Italian chicken and rice. And cauliflower cheese- each of us tried one and found them to be very good. The salad bar was extensive with fixings. Easy to make a full meal and even dessert with pudding and bread pudding. I also had a prickly pear mimosa and hubby had a slice of lemon meringue pie. Both pleased with the food and service. If we were locals we would be regulars, but we will be back in our travels. .Okay folks we went on the road and found this gem!!! Heading to see my cousin in Arizona and needed breakfast. Yelped of course and found this place. It reminds me of a country kitchen. Real cute and home cooking. Waitresses probably been there a long time and know everyone. It's like it is stuck in the 50's. Normal table and chairs. No wow factor, but the service is top notch and food so good you think your mama was in the kitchen. I ordered the Arizona omelette, it had veggies and jalapeno bacon......WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! We were driving from Zion National Park to LV for our flight home to MA, looking for a place to get some lunch. Yelp led us to this gem of a place, and I hope my review will cause others to get off the highway in Kingman if they're looking for great food, people and atmosphere (not to mention Route 66 souvenirs). I had a BLT that included avacado and sprouts, served on yummy toast. My husband and brother both had tuna melts that they loved. Our waitresses (there were several women working at the counter) were the best. We live in an old, formerly mill city in MA, with its share of local diners that serve up good food and ambiance in equal doses. If you like those kind of places, and you're driving Rt. 40 west from Flagstaff to NV, stop in Kingman and visit this restaurant! read more

Great parking for us wheelchair handicapped. Clean and nice décor inside with plenty of room to maneuver and sit at table. Very please with menu as I'm a vegetarian living with a carnivore so always looking to please both of us. Offer a soup and salad bar. We've been there several times now and sops were always good. We've had many of their dishes and liked them all. Service i great. The downside is that they aren't open for dinner. So must eat there before 3. We're hoping this changes in future. We've been told that the old Calicos will reopen but no one knows timeline. At least one is here to enjoy. Since it's off the beaten path it's nice to have a place for locals to go out to dine. I wish we had more family style restaurants around this place is awesome. In town visiting for work recommended by the locals had to check it out I was told they have awesome prime rib and to get its blackened cause it's fabulous with the Cajun butter served. So this is what I got and it did live up to its expectation great staff very courteous the steak was amazing had to seal the deal with a piece of their Passion fruit cheesecake. If they have The cheesecake in get a slice it will not disappoint it's like a slice of Hawaii in your mouth. Prices are excellent can't go wrong They also have the cute Route 66 décor. What a great find! Just finished a day at the Grand Canyon and stopped in Kingman for the night. We always check yelp for good places to eat and this came up! We wondered about the age of the facility but we decided to give a try! The food was really good; our party got the New York strip, hot beef sandwich and beer battered cod... all were happy. The steak was fine for a non steak place... the beer was served in an iced glass, one of the coldest glasses of beer I've had. Debbie, our waitress was really friendly and good good care of us. Ive never given a 1 star review. I think a lot of people use Yelp to complain and are often too quick to judge without giving businesses a chance to fix the issues. That being said, as someone who worked in bars for many years and understands that the service you provide is just as important as the product you offer, I have to leave a 1 star review in hopes that anyone who is thinking of dining here reconsiders. The staff here are endangering the health and safety of their patrons by NOT WEARING MASKS. I am on a road trip and visited this business based on reviews alone, which were overall very good. I was absolutely shocked and disgusted to walk in to a FULL restaurant, with no social distancing and a male employee who seemed to be seating guests with NO MASK. The woman at the register had a mask hanging off of one ear, and behind her and the counter where the food came out of the kitchen were two MORE employees with masks over their ears and pushed below their chin. This is absolutely inexcusable and dangerous and if you are trying to stay safe and do your part to keep your fellow citizens safe, please do not put your health at risk and go to this restaurant. read more

No on the Interstate-exit Beale Street if you're on I-40 or just go straight past I-40 if you are going south on US 93. The ambiance is early 1960s. I suspect many of the staff have been here since that time. We had breakfast here. Breakfast is a meal, that, in many ways is hard to screw up, although I've been to places that made herculean efforts to do so. Calico's is NOT one of these places. Everything about our breakfast was outstanding. The eggs were cooked to order, the breakfast potatoes were perfect, and the bacon...! My wife had eggs-in-a-basket, which she proclaimed were the best she'd had. If you are passing through, spend the extra minute to get off the interstate, and go where many, many of the locals do. We stopped by after fasting my wife got blueberry pancakes and Canadian bacon. She got two huge pancakes that she couldn't finish. Canadian bacon was just okay. I got biscuit and gravy two eggs and hash browns. Biscuit was home made and hot. Eggs were good and hash browns were crispy and not greasy. Only complaint was gravy not very hot! There was a hair on my plate and they quickly redid everything. Gravy still not hot second time! But first time there. I would recommend trying again. read more

It takes a lot for me to take the time to write a negative review but I feel I owe it to people considering dining here. Let me start by saying the staff is friendly. That's where the rainbow ends. The rest of the experience was very bad for us. The place is rather large and has a lot of carpet. The carpet is disgusting and should be torn out and burned. The manager, Brandon, later acknowledged the carpet is fairly new and had worn out quickly and will be replaced. The men's bathroom smelled, too. As far as food, my wife ordered the petite New York Strip. I ordered the soup and salad bar. My daughter ordered the chicken sandwich. The only edible items were the sandwich and salad. My soup was cream of chicken. The chicken was very rubbery, and I spit the chicken into my napkin. It was that bad. But the worst part of the entire experience was the steak. It was ordered medium well. It came out almost raw. It was severely undercooked and bloody as if it came straight from the butcher. Absolutely disgusting and shameful. Even the waitress agreed. She said she would take it to the manager and they ended up not charging us for the steak, but quite honestly they should have comped the whole meal as we all lost our appetites after seeing the steak. My husband and I were on a day trip from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon. Our GPS had us change our route in Kingman. We were extremely hungry and unexpectedly came upon Calico's. Nice people work here, but I am pretty sure they hate my kids. My little ones are loud and we seem to get avoided for refills and such. Nice salad bar for a great price. A large variety of different food dishes are offered. Good pricing for what you receive and I would recommend almost anything on the menu. Cute gift shop and little ice cream bar up front. We love the ambience and highly recommend their famous prime rib which was mouth-watering. We love their salad bar selection of dressings, toppings, and offerings, plus two types of soups which we enjoyed. We tried their new Cajun chicken and Alfredo Fettuccine served with toasted garlic bread which was well-done. Our server Vivian was friendly and helpful, especially when one of us preferred our steak cooked a little further. My wife and I are regular customers here at Calico's and the food is generally good. We normally order the same thing and can expect the food to be prepared consistently, however, our last visit there was terrible. My wife's sandwich had a piece of advocado the size of a quarter, and 1 piece of bacon on each half that was mostly fat. I ordered a tuna melt that had 1 tablespoon of tuna on each half, both orders were actually comical to look at. We asked for the manager who never gave us a apology, only excuses, she did remedy the problem, but made us feel like it was our fault. Sorry to say, we won't be back. read more

Not sure what to make of Calicos. The first time we went I had their Grilled Calico Melt and it was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had in a restaraunt. Went back for a Sunday breakfast and had the Country Benedict and it was just plain awful. Hashbrowns that likely had set on the griddle for an hour. So tough and crunchy there were inedible. The "Benedict" that supposedly had bacon and sausage gravy had one slice of bacon on a puny tasteless biscuit and no sign of any sausage in the gravy. As an alternative I did look over their Breakfast Buffet but it looked at best like cafeteria food. Little variety; bacon, scrambled eggs and potato slices, that was about it. We had been regulars at the original Calico's for years and loved the place, people and the food was great. The new place, opened after the fire at the original location, is a HUGE disappointment. I must say that the people are super friendly, but the food is the problem. They raised their prices quite a bit and are very stingy on portions. At breakfast, the omelets are small and sausage patties are barely visible on the plate. You only get one slice of toast as well. Can they spare it?? When it comes to breakfast Calicos will not let you down. Great size portions and an outstanding service staff that always makes sure you feel right at home. I myself enjoy sitting at the bar but there dining area is roomie if you want to have some space from other tables.
