Simply the best selection of fabrics and service that I know. Other stores may have lower prices, but the quality and service can not be matched. It's easy to get swatches also. Only bummer is that they stopped selling thread, as apparently most customers pick out fabric and then have someone else sew for them, however I sew myself so you will need to make another stop at e.g. Michaels or a similar store. read more

I bought custom drapery from this store and am so disappointed. I am not sure if they measured wrong but I have a great amount of over hang to my slider door. They suggested tie backs but I don't like them. It screams cheap and gaudy to me. So disappointed. The amount of money I spent was huge thinking I would get a solution. Needing our antique dining room chairs recovered within a short time frame, I came in desperate for help. I met the amazing Elizabeth and showed her pictures of our house and told her about our lifestyle. Within an hour she made two fantastic suggestions. I took samples home, made the final decision, called her and she ordered the fabric and had it sent to me. I can't believe this place is still open. In the 15 years in which I have lived in Hinsdale, I have found the service at Calico Corners to be appalling. The staff barely acknowledges you, and treats you as if they are doing you a favor by waiting on you. The array of products is nice, but overpriced in comparison to what one can find on the Internet. Having worked with Calico before, with beautiful results, I went back to have a window seat reupholstered after it lasted for eight years. Marilyn was a disaster to work with. The first time in, she couldn't find the "gray" fabric section of the store. She seemed absent-minded and not welcoming in the least. She wound up emailing me a quote...for $386. I called to confirm since the quote showed a 42" length instead of the 99" that I had written down and handed to her. The person on the phone assured me the quote was correct as the "notes in the work order specified this was a 99" piece". So I hauled the bench seat in to place the order. Marilyn said there was "NO WAY!" she could sell me the piece as it clearly was incorrect since it said 42". I explained that the person on the phone told me the work order indicated the 99". She dug in saying she could not sell it to me. I said, okay, well it looks like you'll need to re-quote it. While I did change fabrics (from $49.99/yard to $64.99/yard...a 30% increase), the price went to $919...2-1/2 times the original quote! No apologies. Instead, she was nearly argumentative about it. I cannot recommend this store. They are happy to make the sale, but then it is wait, wait, excuse, excuse, and months later, you still don't have the finished product. They have sales all of the time, and the salespeople are very eager to find new customers, but they don't take care of their existing ones. Do yourself a favor, and shop elsewhere. read more

This store was renovated in July 2007, but I can't really tell the difference. Fun to go in to if you're thinking of re-doing a room or piece of furniture in your house and need ideas/coordinates. I found the staff to be somewhat absent. It took me a while to find someone to help me and at that point they didn't know their inventory to answer my questions. I was looking for a specific color/type of fabric. Not at all impressed by the books they had of fabric samples. read more

Be dazzled by the cacophony of beautiful colors and textures. Whenever I am in Hinsdale, I have to walk through Calico Corners to see the fabulous fabrics and designs. The designer fabrics are displayed in bolts covering the walls. If you like a fabric their friendly staff will gladly give you a cutting to take home. I have had Calico Corners design my draperies, bed coverings, pillows, blinds and upholstered furniture. If you need advice the staff is knowledgeable and helpful. I highly recommend this store as they are Architectural Digest quality. read more

Calico Corners is fine to use for draperies and other home decorating projects if you know what you are doing. If you don't know what you are doing you might end up with something that has not been lined or doesn't have interlining. You have to specifically request these things, and the sales staff isn't always very good about asking if you want these options. (By the way, I think Sandy is excellent.) If you really need someone to design your window treatment from start to finish than you might try drapery connection in Hinsdale. But, if you know what you want Calico Corners will do a great job making it. I have never had any problem with the quality of their work. They also are very good about redoing things if something has gone awry. I had a table skirt made that came back with pleats in the wrong place and they redid it no questions asked. read more

Just had my sofa reupholstered- what a gorgeous job the upholsterer did! I was so pleased with my choice of fabric- a sage green velvet and the staff did their best to accommodate my desires- I didn't want cording on the cushions. It did take about 4 weeks but this was a custom job, my sales associate told me it would take that long. I am very pleased and would recommend them without reservation. read more

I visited Calico looking for upholstery material for a small bench. Although I only needed a yard and a half, Ann spent a good 15 minutes with me, making suggestions and giving me swatches to take home. When I went back the next day to place an order, she greeted me by name, and helped me place an order. She was extremely helpful, and I couldn't be more impressed with her and the beautiful selection of fabrics. I recommend them highly. read more

I have been a loyal customer to Calico of Hinsdale for 25 years. I live over 35 miles away and enjoy my excision to Hinsdale! I am an accomplished seamstress and love the variety of fabrics and design inspiration at Calico. I "redecorate" at least every seven years and have always been greeted when upon arriving in the store. I realize some associates may be working with an existing customer, so I don't mind browsing the isles of inspiration! I can whip up a valance but I leave the big jobs to the pros, like drapery panels... I just don't have the space or workshop to make panels, nor the desire. I am currently browsing for my dinning room windows and will no doubt use Calico. Not only that, ready made panels (via the internet) cheapen a room, custom is the only way to go. In the last year, I repurposed a sofa- perfectly good but needed a fresh look. I had our living room sofa reupholstered and worked with Marilyn and couldn't be happier! Most recently, I ordered custom upholstered swivel chairs through Linda. The chairs arrived in six weeks! I am thrilled with the workmanship and quality and will forever be a loyal Calico Corners customer! read more

This review is based on prices, not work done. They wanted $80 per seat to do a simple tack and staple reupholstery job for 6 dining room chairs. AND it would take 4 weeks. I've been calling around and so far I've gotten two return calls from local reupholsterers who quoted me $40 or $50 per seat, done in a week. I guess everything costs more in Hinsdale. read more

Regarding the store at 11 North Waukegan, Deerfield, IL Very disappointed with the serivce I received from this store plus no response from the Calico Corner Service Dept regarding my complaint. In October I received a postcard promoting a storewide sale and at that time I was redecorating my bedroom and would then begin the living room. I was given the impression over the phone that this was too small of job but someone would call me back. Days later I did receive a call and sent the in-home decorator an email with a sketch of my bedroom windows (which are not small windows). She never acknowledged or called me back so I presume they were not interested. Very poor customer service. I did give my business to an independent store and received great service and beautiful draperies and have passed their name on to a friend who is currently have drapery made. Calico Corners lost out on my business and my friend's and I will never step foot in another Calico Corner store. read more

I wish I had read the reviews before using the Calico Corners in Hinsdale. We spent a huge sum of money getting a couch recovered. We were never told to look at the samples and confirm dye lots. We ended up,with a couch covered in a noticeable lighter color. We went back to the store and showed them the difference. They told us that they would order the same material and compare it. When we got the new swatch it was exactly the same color as the swatch we had been given at the store and much darker than the material used on our couch. They acknowledge the difference and offered to redo it but we would have to cover the labor costs. We declined. The staff are air heads who seem to have no interest in customer service. I love going to Calico Corners! Very inspiring. Staff is knowledgeable. I always find the perfect fabric to complete a project: table skirt, pillows, etc. A couple years ago I ordered a leather tufted ottoman (including selecting the hide). It was beautifully built and delivered on time. Great source for pillow forms, Sunbrella fabric, custom furniture, etc. I've noticed a genuine upgrade in fabrics, too! read more

I used Calico Corners for redoing the dining room chair seats this fall. The sales lady was helpful and took my 50% deposit gladly. I was told the fabric would be in within a week and then I could bring in the existing cushions.. Two weeks went by, I finally drove the chair cushions over to the store and the same sales lady acted like this was entirely new to her; i had the paperwork with me and she scrutinized it like it was fraudulent. Finally, she said, oh, I guess you've paid us already and took the chair seats with the promise that they'd be done within 2 weeks so an elapsed time of 4 weeks assuming she even ordered the original fabric two weeks earlier.. Its been another month now and each time I call the answer is the same...'they are in the workroom'. Sorry to have used them. A three week project has become 7 so far with no end in sight. I am getting concerned that they've lost my order or worse yet, the seats themselves. read more

I love the fabric choices at Calico Corners and I find that the in-store designers (e.g., Marilyn and Katie) have very lovely and creative design tastes and they are very patient and helpful. Unfortunately, everything else about the Hinsdale store is really tough to stomach. So far, I happily drove the 24 miles to the store 4 different times to select and return samples for all the various rooms in my house and I have very happily purchased over $10,000 worth of fabric and services. But if I have to hear ONE MORE TIME from anyone at the store, Ivan the apolostery guy or the curtain measurer/installer guy complain and belabor how far away my house is (as if I live in Siberia) and how difficult it is to schedule anything for 9am or weekends (because they 9-5 M-F), I'm going to call the whole deal off. I have to travel to the most remote corners of America for my clients and I do it happily. If Calico Corners only wants to serve homes in Hinsdale, I suggest they quit mailing me advertisements and accepting my money. I'll be looking to do the rest of the house and rooms somewhere else. read more
