This was a fun place to camp. We got a cabin, which had a bunk bed and a queen in it. It also had air conditioning and heating and a fire pit and a BBQ grill right outside. There are also showers and bathrooms nearby. There's lots of hiking around the area. For $85, that's a steal. There were a lot of off-road vehicles and families with fifth-wheels and toy-haulers. Some people complained about the noise at night and people partying, bit for the most part, people were friendly and respectful. read more

Nice place, love camping.calico is fun as well.Fun things to see and do. Definitely a day out

The ghost own itself was great. Much larger than expected, good service and super fun. The campground check in is disorganized and challenging to maneuver. Facilities are fine, but it's just rocky and primitive. Don't plan to stay more than a night or two. read more

We had so much fun last year for the Halloween festivities. We explored the mining caves, the cemetery and the ghost town. Most of the RVs were decorated for Halloween. The town had lots of fun things to do. I want to go back every year but they sell out within minutes. The only thing that could've been better was the haunted ghost train ride...there is potential to add more props etc. That part wasn't very exciting but for small children, it'll suffice. read more

The town itself is super cute, it is a good amount of entertainment for a day trip. The campground is rough. Stayed in a full hookup site, only 30 amps for power so bring an adapter if you usually use 50. The sites are close, super rocky, and very uneven. Very rough to get level. Fire pits are falling apart and there is a lot of trash scattered around... Only $45 per night though! Has potential, it could be a really nice campground with some TLC. read more

WE STAYED IN THE MINI BUNKHOUSE FOR HALLOWEEN! This is a great area for families. The Ghost Town itself is small but has a ton of little shops and things to see. This is not a true Ghost Town. 3 of the original buildings remain and are in use. There is a train ride, a real silver mine to walk through, a mystery house, gold panning, and a few other little activities. It gives "old western, Knotts Berry Farm" because it was purchased by the franchise. The staff were very kind and very willing to tell you about the history of Calico. While as adults we may have found some parts "cheesy" our 5 and 2 year old LOVED EVERYTHING. Calico is also VERY dog friendly. Our Golden Retriever was allowed in all the shops and all the rides, including the mine and the train! For the mini bunkhouse itself, we were pretty nervous to check in since we couldn't find pictures or reviews ANYWHERE (which is why I'm trying to be as detailed as possible. The mini was great. If you're expecting luxury and a nice aesthetic, probably best to find a hotel. BRING EVERYTHING! Basically like you are camping. They have toilet paper, brooms, and paper towels. Other than that, it really depends on what the previous guests left. So bring your blankets, pillows, towels, soaps, and plates/utensils. There was one pan and some tongs in the drawers when we arrived, which worked for us. Again PACK LIKE YOURE CAMPING! You will have heat/ac, running water, and electricity. There are two twin bunk beds and a futon which turns into a full/double, so 6 people total. The mattresses are more like cot pads, so if you have a bad back (like us) maybe bring an air mattress or topper. Either way, it's not unbearable. Outside you have a nice big fire pit and a separate grill. It's very peaceful at night with the occasional ATV/dirt bike passing by up the hill. Remember, people camp here for the OHV area. All together, for what it is, I give Calico five stars. It's a great little area to hang out with family and friends. If you stay in the cabins or bunk houses, admission to the ghost town is FREE! *side note, to the group that stayed before us that trashed the place, shame on you. Not only did it cause us to have to check in late (which whatever, we just went and explored the Ghost Town) but the staff were scrambling to clean up the disaster you left. That's how you get cool places like this to tighten up their rules, or worse, closed. Do better.* read more

We had site B4 fortunately we have a small rv with door on back of unit. You could not walk down either side of our site. Both sides had yellow poles and utilities. If our door was on the side we'd have been stepping out over neighbors sewer hose and ducking to not hit their slide. Site was not level at all. Which was no biggie for us we come prepared. Picnic table was a joke it was all warped. B4 should NOT be a camp site. Bathrooms were not clean. All toilet seats were nasty, no soap for washing hands. Trash was all over the camp ground. No rules were being enforced. Atvs, (Atvs all over camp ground and up at the ghost town.) unleashed dogs, swimming pools at rvs?! (One up hill from us dumped pool and flooded 3 sites) Neighbor checked in at 11pm. Camp fires till midnight. We left camp ground one time to run errand and had to sit in a 40 minute line to get back In. If you camp here don't leave, there is no line for campers already checked in. It's one line that is for Ghost town and camp ground entrance. We have camped here since 2006 and boy has it gone down hill over the years. read more

Two stars for the camp grounds. Five stars for the Ghost Town. My husband and I spent two days here with our two standard poodles (not the ideal place for this type of dog). This place is not my preferred type of camp ground but my husband was completely content. We stayed in site B1. It was perfectly level and we had full hook ups. Our Directv worked but we had to use our own data for internet. There is a tree in the front that might get in the way for someone new to parking. The place is nothing but dirt, rock and uneven pavement. But what do you expect for a place in the middle of the desert? The C area seems to be in better condition with a newer paved street but there are no hook ups. The bathrooms are really dusty with no soap but they do have a lot of toilet paper. It seems like A23 is the best site. It's a larger pull through site and you have access to a small culda sac where you can park extra cars and bikes. Visiting Calico Ghost town was pretty special. Dogs are allowed in every single place except the sweet shop and in the food place at the back of the town. All the workers are extremely friendly especially the guy working at the saloon. We spent a good four hours there. You should do the train ride and the mine tour. Everything was interesting! read more

Unfortunately, not a place we will stay again. Let's start with the fact that we arrived, and there was no ranger at the station when we drove in. Which might have been fine but- we rented one of the bunkhouses. It was locked up, and we had no way to get inside. We called the emergency support line no less than 6x and got no response. Thankfully, my son noticed an open, unlocked window. He crawled through it, unlocked the door, and we began setting up. But had there been no unlocked window? So, it is dinner time and we are sitting outside trying to eat and jerks on their ATVs decide they are going to do continous donuts directly behind and ON our camping lot. Kicking up so much dirt and dust, that we couldn't even be outside. We couldn't eat outside, couldn't be around our fire pit, nothing. Our vehicle was so badly covered we had to use water bottles galore the next morning to clean our windshield well enough to see. Then there was the fact that these same Jerks wouldn't stop coming behind and onto our campsite with their loud ATVS, blasting music, until 3am, even though "quiet hours" are supposed to be at 10. We literally had no choice but to lock ourselves up in our bunkhouse, when we should have been having smores and a relaxing evening. Again, we tried numerous times to call the after hours ranger phone number posted in the bunk house and up at the ghost town itself. No response. Several calls, several voicemails, all ignored. If you go here and manage to have no issues, awesome. You'll probably have a great time. But if there is any kind of problem- well you're on your own. We weren't given access to our cabin like we were supposed to, rules weren't upheld, and overall our family didn't feel safe here. Only giving it two stars because the bunkhouse itself was nice and the kids did love Calico the next morning. read more

This place was a real find! We were trying to get out of an incredible windstorm. Our RV was literally swaying on I-15. We had planned on visiting the ghost town for my daughter, but the campground was even BETTER! Not only is it near the ghost town (and includes entrance fees!), it was in a well-protected canyon so that the windstorm never took us over again. We enjoyed the ghost town and the restaurants and shops (who knew?! What a deal!), and at camp at night, we enjoyed the stars and the hiking. The sunrise was incredible and you get a great view of the valley floor. It definitely was a gem of a place. Perfect for families with young adventurers, and people who hate exposed windy areas. ;) PS. FULL HOOK-UPS! Yay for happy rv campers. :) read more

Calico Ghost Town Campground - Trail alongside the campground. - Campgrounds Near Me - Yermo, California

We have enjoyed Calico Ghost Town for years and tried the campground last winter with friends for our trek for Las Vegas to see family. The campground had plenty of spaces and there were few other people during the week in the winter. We had no problem making reservations to be next to our friends and had no problems while we were there. Be careful when making reservation because some sites have no services at all, some partial and only some have full service. The sites were moderately level allowing us to spend a comfortable night. It is quite a distance to walk to the Ghost Town. There is a parking lot below the ghost town so you can take a vehicle or ATV. The ghost town has a number of stores and places to get food and drink. The guys walked up to the Saloon to get a drink and had a nice time. We have eaten there before and it was fun-though prices were a bit high (as normal entertainment locations can be). We only spent one night but it was fun. We will definitely come back and stay a bit. Temperatures get really hot during the summer so it's a spring or fall spot for us. I definitely recommend Calico Ghost Town Campground to allow you to visit the ghost town over a number of days. read more

Lots of people have never heard of Calico, but this place has a lot to offer actually , and a lot better if you own sand toys. They offer camp sites with hookups for those with RVs and Trailers, with plenty of room to set up tents or park the toys. They also have sites for camping only and they offer cabins with all the bells and whistles. Park area has lots of trails, shooting areas, and a small town with stores, restaurants, train, and shows on the weekends. On my second night I was assigned a different camp site, the guy was being a major D not moving from it. Notified someone at the park and I wasn't able to get my site till about 6pm. Major headache and it took them hours to sort it out from the original time that I was supposed to move over that inconvenienced myself and group. Will be back for sure. read more

1. Made reservation to find someone had taken our spot because they were told to park wherever they want. 2. Ranger told us that they do not put out "reserved" signs and just leave it to the rangers to fix on their evening rounds. 3. If you like camping in a gravel pit ... this is the place for you. 4. No one picks up garbage from the campground site ... it was VERY messing. 5. Many of the picnic tables were warped beyond use. 6. Don't look for a shade tree ... there was only one and some assorted shrubs that were worthless except to gather garbage blowing in the wind. 7. We will never return to this very poorly run gravel pit. read more

I stayed here for the first time a few weeks ago with my husband's family. We stayed in the mini bunkhouse which consist of two bunkbeds and a futon. The bunkhouse was very nice and when we walked in you can smell it has been cleaned thoroughly. Everything seemed sanitary for the most part. I liked that it was secluded away from the other cabins. It had a big campfire area outside and also a barbecue. I would definitely come back and stay again. The only thing I would recommend is the next time somebody comes in to clean, please wash the curtains. They had so many stains and were very dusty. Nothing that a quick run through the wash machine couldn't quickly fix. Since you sleep on the top bunk bed, you actually touch the curtains and it was a little gross. Also the stove burners really need to be cleaned. The stove itself was very clean, it's just the burners really needed to be scrubbed down because as there was a lot of burnt materials on them. Again nothing that a little elbow grease and an SOS pad couldn't fix. Also around the campfire were pieces of glass and nails and other items that could be harmful. Since I had my 1 year old we all had to pick up tons of stuff as we saw it. Just needed a good sweep up with a rake from the previous partiers. All in all I recommend the mini bunkhouse for anybody who wants to come out and camp. It was worth it. read more

Great campground. Very clean facilities, large campsites, and lots of trails to Jeep or ride your rzrs, dirt bikes, or 4-wheelers.

We usually camp here 2-3 times a year. It's a nice place to stay for the weekend. Yes there is dirt but there are bathrooms and showers that are clean. The showers are quarters only and there is no change machine. There are fire pits in most sites but a lot in weird locations ours was right under a tree. Our neighbors was right by the back of our trailer. I'm not sure if there is a quiet time as no one came around to tell us other wise. It's an easy walk to the ghost town (not for wheel chairs or strollers) if unable to walk it's a quick drive up. There are a few spots with trees but other than that not much shade. read more

Campgrounds are very tight. You can hear your neighbors talking since the neighboring sites are very, VERY close. They have full hookups for RVs though so if you have an RV, it will be better. Tent camping is not ideal here. Bathrooms are very dirty and didn't seem to be get cleaned the entire time we spent here. When we arrived, no ranger was on duty but they asked the next day when we came left and returned to camp but didn't give any display pass so it seems anyone can go in after the ranger leaves for the day. read more

We just spent two nights in the Calico Campground in the O campground. Our nephew, who is a big fan of off-roading has stayed there numerous times. We booked 3 sites together with our in-laws and nephews. We didn't know that the O campground stood for OHV. Off Highway Vehicles. Our campsite (O59) may have been the worst site in the O campground. It was absolutely the worst campsite we have ever stayed in during our years of trailering. It took me at least 5 tries to get the trailer (23 foot Airstream) into the site and close enough to the hookups so that we could actually "hookup". The dumpster in front of our site combined with the dune buggy parked in front of our neighbor left almost no room to maneuver. Once I got the trailer in place I realized that there was no way we were ever going to get it level. The site sloped down to the back and right. We don't have self leveling jacks so, being so out of level, there was nothing we could do. My in-laws who have a motorhome with self leveling jacks had to buy additional blocks to put under their jacks because the jacks themselves were not long enough. The site next to ours (O60) is designated as a site for disabled persons. The crew camped at that site had obviously found a way to scam the system. They had more ATVs, dune buggies and dirt bikes than they had people. They had a token grandma along for the ride who was about my age. She was no more disabled than I am. But they apparently have very low standards for what "disabled" means. The way the sites are set up, they have fire rings in the back right corners of the sites. The sites are extremely narrow so our neighbor's fire ring was no more than 12 feet from our trailer door. The vast majority of the campers in Campground O were courteous enough to realize that campfires so close to your neighbor would be too offensive. Not our neighbor. We could, literally, not breathe in our trailer due to the smoke from his fire. When I asked him if he could please put it out, he told me to piss off. Campground O is a dump!! The good news is that there are Campgrounds A and B which don't allow OHVs and maybe nicer people. In the end, we had a lot of fun seeing our family who we don't get to see often enough. But the camping experience was the worst we've ever had. read more

The park is located in the desert which we expected. We stayed here because of its proximity to Fort Irwin. People that stay here don't follow campground rules at all, they leave trash everywhere and play their music where other campers can hear it. On our way home from Laughlin we stopped by the Primm Outlet stores. After a visit to the Coach store we were back on the road home to LA. We seen a Subway sandwiche shop in a gas station, so we pulled off the road. What's this a Ghost Town about 3 miles off the Hwy. Let's check it out. We scored, it was a little more than an hour till their closing time, so they didn't charge us admission. I think it was about $8 a person. It's an amazing little ghost town! They have a working railway. My soon to be 4 year old grandson begged us to ride the train. Since we didn't have to pay for admission, why not?! Claude was our conductor on the 7 min train ride. Very informative audio narration. Beautiful mountain views. Great view of the 10 million dollar Silver Mine entrance. There are a few restaurants and shops. The Knotts Berry Farm Family once owned the town and refurbished it many years ago. Their Ghost Town is modeled after it. There is even a Bottle House! Too cool! There is a open Mine with tours available at an additional cost. Sorry, did not find out how much. They also have camping for tents, RVs, trailers and cabins. I would love to go back for a three day weekend and stay in the large cabin with the whole family. I would definitely recommend taking the short drive off the Hwy to visit Ghost Town! It would have been worth the cost if we would have had to pay to get in. read more
