DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO CALIBER - AVOID IF POSSIBLE!!!!
Zero stars if I could!!!! Negative Stars!!!!
My car was in a fairly substantial accident on February 11 and because my insurance contracts with Caliber it was towed there.
They had good communication for the first 5 days (there was a period of time trying to determine if it should just be totaled) and it went downhill from there.
We received a text saying our car would be completed on March 10. But when my husband called on March 9, they hadn't even started on it!! It then took 3 calls for them to send the requested supplements to my insurance company.
We were finally told we could pick up our car on April 14. Our liaison was nice and stayed after hours to get our car back to us since it had been so long.
But on the drive home our car was making HORRIBLE noises and not shifting correctly and by the time my husband got home the Check Engine light was on.
Caliber towed it back on Monday and actually admitted to NEVER HAVING DONE A TEST DRIVE!
They had it for over a week and half before I CALLED THEM to find out what was wrong. They then told me that THE DAMAGE TO THE CAR WAS NOT FROM THE ACCIDENT.
They refused to accept any responsibility for what was happening to my car. They just had someone run the code on my check engine light and give me a report that it was my turbo malfunctioning and completely unrelated to the accident.
My husband asked for the general manager, Randy, to call him. My liaison said she would pass a note on to him to give us a call. This was during the week of May 1.
On May 4, after receiving no support or calls, I paid for it to be towed to a nearby mechanic, who immediately found damage to the cover of the timing belt exactly at the location of the accident. He guaranteed it was caused by the impact and threw my car's timing completely off.
Caliber admitted to my insurance company (VERIFIED BY MY INSURANCE LIAISON) that sometimes in these types of accidents, the timing is damaged. But this was AFTER I had towed it away and THEY HAD NOT CHECKED IT!
The outside mechanic fixed the timing issue and my insurance company will reimburse me. HOWEVER, he discovered a multitude of problems.
I paid to have it towed to a Subaru dealer and they told me it will cost $3500 to fix. It is June 18 and I have a completely undrivable car sitting in my driveway. The check engine light is on, as well as other lights, which stay on. It has trouble shifting. The turbo in fact no longer works (which it did before the accident and can be verified by 3 drivers!)
Caliber made us feel like we are crazy people! But we know we had a working, functional car, and now we don't. They are the middle of this equation. I feel like bawling all the time.
BUT THE BEST PART (some comic relief)!!! 3 WEEKS (on May 22) after we had the car towed away from Caliber, the General Manager, Randy, FINALLY called my husband and left this message (which I have saved) -
"Yeah, this is Randy over at Caliber Collision. I'm just giving you a call on a note I had here but I'm not sure what exactly this is and what I'm supposed to do...."
SERIOUSLY????? We went between rage, hysterical laughter and pure disgust!
This is how you do business?
We've paid for 3 tows since you guys SCREWED UP MY CAR!
DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS!
THEY COSMETICALLY FIXED MY CAR BUT THEY DID NOT FIX ENGINE DAMAGE AND THEN CAUSED FURTHER DAMAGE BECAUSE OF THEIR NEGLIGENCE!
The picture was taken by the intermediate mechanic who immediately found the damage to the timing case. Caliber had my car for 3 weeks the second time and didn't bother to find this.
My insurance appraisers agree it was caused by the accident and they have reprimanded Caliber (or so I've been told).
BUT BAD BUSINESS WILL ONLY STOP IF YOU STOP TAKING YOUR CARS THERE! read more
