So....great social media advertising posts led me to drive all the way out near Riverside to try this Indian cuisine - run from a residential address but assured permit status. I downloaded their app which was easy to order from. I set a pick up time after my Mt Rubidoux hike (which I highly recommend) and drove to the address. Someone was outside already handing someone else their order and I gave them my name, and voila, order was in car and ready for somewhere to eat it. I ordered a Butter Chicken Burrito, a Bhatura (fried bread) and a set of 4 samosas. Everything was neatly wrapped and nice and warm. The Samosas were a good size and had two nice accompanying dipping sauces. The Bhatura was a decent fried bread - made better dipped in those sauces I just mentioned. The Butter Chicken Burrito was good in size and taste, yet it didn't taste at all like Butter Chicken that I've had all over the world. Yes, yes... and YES!!! I'm so glad we finally tried Cali Tardka! I had been wanting to check them out ever since seeing them on Instagram sometime last year. If you're searching for flavorful, authentic Punjabi dishes, this is definitely the place to go. We drove from Palm Springs, so it took about an hour to get there with rush hour traffic--but it was absolutely worth it. We ordered 2 Greg Specials, 2 Chana Samosa Plates, and 1 Shahi Paneer Burrito. Everything was made promptly, and we were able to pull up curbside where our order was brought out by Manu with a big smile and great service. Even though we didn't go inside since it was a pickup order, the place had a welcoming vibe. I did find the burrito fragile (understandable, given that it's wrapped in a piece of naan); I cut it in two, and one half fell apart after I took a bite and put it down. Really happy about this place. I was looking for places to eat in the orangecrest area and this place kept popping up. First of all, they make all their food in their home and all you have to do is to order online, choose pickup time, and then you would pull up curbside. They will bring the food to you. They were prompt and right on time bringing the food to us. The menu was super simple, which I love. This was our first time, so we just went for the gregs special. This was a wonderful plate of tikka masala and butter chicken with a huge portion of rice, garlic naan, and a samosa. This was such a huge portion, you can basically split it to 2 meals. Once you order, they text you the info to text another number once you're there for pick up (you just wait outside & they'll bring it to you). We got the butter chicken for 2, 2 mango lassi and the tikka burrito. (~$56) Their naan is so rich and fluffy, it's the best naan I've ever had. You can definitely taste it's homemade. Both entrees were top notch. Burrito was huge and wrapped in naan. Their samosas are make with actual dough, not just wrapped in premade phyllo dough and fried. So so SO good. So rich and creamy and flavorful, and fun being on top of the very delicious fries. Ordering online was easy, then picking up the food was a breeze as they bring it right out to you once you are there, at the time you selected when you order. We are looking forward to coming back and trying some of the other dishes, but to be honest, I'm pretty sure the next few orders are just going to be some variety of the Butter Chicken as it was sooo good. The naan was the perfect vessel for the flavorful chicken and rice; not too thick, soft and chewy. We obviously had to reheat all the other food for dinner and it was STILL hands down one of the best Indian meals we've had. I popped the Samosas in the air fryer, naan in the oven wrapped in foil, and microwaved everything else. Aloo Gobi had the perfect amount of heat, veggies were cooked just right. Butter Chicken was a little different than other versions I've had but absolutely delicious. I think they use coconut milk in the curry for this one. If you love chickpeas like we love chickpeas, the Channa Masala is it! The perfect balance of tomato and spices with a hint of sweetness. Samosas are our fave appys so we were looking forward to trying them. The only thing I was missing was a green chutney. They were served with a tamarind chutney that was good, but too sweet for my liking. Service was great - I arrived at my scheduled time and the food came out 2-3 mins after I arrived. My office did a pick up order and I ordered the Greg Special. The portion size was large, almost too large. It wasn't as flavorful as other places I've been but it was decent. Then the naan was actually my favorite item and then at some point I felt some grab in my mouth. I took the naan piece I was eating out of my mouth to see it was 2 big hairs baked right into the naan. It was baked into it so i knew it didnt just fall on top nor was it my own. I was super super excited to try this place out because of all the good things I've heard, but the food was super underwhelming. I ordered a Greg special, a butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, a chole bhature, and mango lassis, but my order also included samosas and naan. First of all, the food is packed in the worst way imaginable. It's supper runny food in a styrofoam container wrapped in cling plastic (the tikka masala for 2 was actually in plastic containers ??? like why not put everything in them???). They took the bad packing a step further, by putting the round plastic containers (on their side!) underneath the styrofoam plates and it was just a shit show in that bag, everything spilled because the styrofoam containers weren't on a flat surface. We barely got any sauce because 1. it spilled and 2. most of what remained got mixed with the rice, which they give you sooooo much of. Next, the food. The chole bhature was pretty good, it was the highlight of that meal for sure. The samosas were good as well, and the mango lassis weren't super sweet, so I liked them. The tikka masala sauce (the one for 2 people) was flavorless, quite possibly the worst one I've ever had. However, the tikka masala sauce in the Greg special had more flavor and spice (you can choose spice level on that plate but not on the "serves 2" plate for some reason). The butter chicken sauce was worse than the tikka masala. I didn't like the naan either, but just because there was a lot of garlic on it. Overall, all 4 of us were super disappointed.
