Stephanie is simply the best!…read more First, she starts by thoroughly assessing your body so that every single workout is customized specifically to your needs and current physical situation. Second, safety is her top priority. She closely observes your movement and constantly checks in on which muscles are engaging. If she notices any muscle compensation, she immediately modifies the exercise. I feel completely safe following her instructions. Finally, when I recently hurt my lower back, she guided me through corrective exercises. The very next morning, I was able to stand up and walk--it was truly amazing! I highly recommend her.

Really happy with the progress I've made and would definitely recommend Matt!

I like this gym, it's a bit more like a club than purely a gym, but I don't really use the club…read morefacilities so the gym part is what I'm reviewing here. No tennis, no pool, no snack bar. Anyway, there are three key things for me when it comes to a gym. First is cleanliness, second is shower facilities, third is equipment. AVAC is a relatively small gym and I tend to go at off hours. This means not many people, so thankfully it's very clean inside. If you think about a 24 Hour Fitness or similar, they have hundreds of people constantly working out, there's no way to uphold hygiene standards. AVAC, despite being small, has frequent cleanings happening, which is nice. The showers at AVAC are... okay. On the plus side, they provide towels, which is a dealbreaker for me. Who wants to bring their own towel to a gym? So that's a big convenience factor. The towels have been bleached and washed to the point they are marginally more absorbent than copy paper and quite rough, but I guess a towel is a towel. The showers themselves are workable but not ideal. Communal in nature, which I personally find awkward, but going at off hours at least allows me to have them to myself or only 1-2 others at most. If it was packed I'd probably wait, it's just too weird. The shampoo and body wash are not very high quality, kind of reminds me of what you'd get at a cheap motel. But again, at least it's there. I also don't want to cart my own soap around. For the gym's size, the equipment variety and quantity is good. I've never not been able to get a treadmill, I've always been able to get the free weights I want, and there are usually benches available. The only thing in short supplies are squat racks, of which there are two, and space for deadlifts, which is basically also two. I would say the gym's clientele leans towards... not people doing those types of exercise. So I haven't typically had to wait, but again I also don't go at peak hours. There are also tons of machines, if you're the type of person who thinks isolation exercises are good. Better than nothing I suppose, but that's just me. AVAC offers a lot of free classes, of which I've taken none. They also have a snack bar, which I've never used. There's also a pool (not the swim school pool which is like 2.5' high) and a kiddie pool outside, neither of which I've been in. And there are tennis courts and pickleball and some outdoor fitness area, which, you guessed it, I have never been to. I wouldn't say AVAC is a destination gym the way Bay Clubs are, but if you're closeby it's probably the best one around. They also have plenty of parking in back in two lots.

AVAC's staff is always service with a smile. The young woman at the front desk with short hair and…read morea nose ring is always so friendly and welcoming and always remembers my name. They have all the machines I use: elliptical, stairmaster, etc. Very clean facility. One thing is I wish there were more vegan options in the cafe.

In the years I've been visiting this location, I have never encountered anyone as diligently serious as she is. She takes the time to clean every piece of equipment and the floors, constantly keeps her eyes on the entire facility, and greets everyone who walks in and says goodbye as they leave. Whenever you ask her to do something, she immediately gets to work and responds promptly to any requests. She is truly a phenomenal person, and I hope she stays with us for a long time. She is genuinely a winner!

I basically come to use the weight machines and then I use the treadmill. My only complaint in that regard is that half of the treadmills don't have the heart rate sensor working. Very frustrating. Lucky for me, I have an Apple Watch and can check that out on my own later on. My other big complaint is what they have on the tvs. Look, most of us come there to workout which is part of stress relief. I'm on the treadmill, have my music playing in my ears and then I am forced to stare at all of the tvs that have the news on the screens. For those 30 minutes or so, I DO NOT want to stare on the friggin news! It could be so much nicer if they had something relaxing and calming like a nature scene. I can't believe that most people want to look at the news right now. We see enough of it and our brains need a break. Anyway, besides those two issues, I am very happy with Planet Fitness.

My wife and I just finished our first class at F45 Branham Park, and wow, it was a whole new level…read moreof tough. The workout was called "West Hollywood" - 27 stations, full-body - and it absolutely kicked our butts. I'm not the fittest person and definitely have a lot to work on, so I felt gassed out pretty quickly, especially during the core exercises. It was way different from what I'm used to at Orangetheory, which I've been doing for a couple of months now, and definitely more intense in its own way. Coaches Michelle and Rudy were awesome - they really made sure we didn't feel overwhelmed and were super encouraging. They kept the energy high and took the time to help us get through each station without feeling too lost. It was tough and challenging, no doubt, and I can see why people get hooked - it feels like you're pushing yourself in a way that makes you leave everything out on the floor. There's a reason Mark Wahlberg is a promoter of F45; you leave feeling like you're ready to fight your way through an action movie. If you're ready for an all-out sweat and a solid workout that pushes your limits, F45 is definitely worth a try. Just be ready to feel those core muscles the next day - I know I will!
