The positives are that it is non smoking (they do have a smoking section outside but you never have to encounter it if you don't want to), staff is super friendly, free fountain drinks, the cafe has some decent food, and the paybacks are pretty good. The cons are the machine hogs playing multiple games at the same time, those blocking off games and turning chairs with change in the machine for hours so others can't play, and the messy folks that leave food or trash on or near the machines/chairs. My husband and I had a terrible experience Saturday 12/23/23. At a point in the evening, a patron of the casino asks if my husband if he had found a $100 ticket to which my husband said no. We found it a bit odd that the guy was lurking behind us for a bit. We decided to call it when we go to exit the casino we were surrounded by security and casino management. Management accused my husband of taking the ticket and quote "he took something that was not his." I cannot tell you how many times management said "we have you on camera." I was in such shock how accusatory he was, so sure of himself. We kept saying well, then "show us..". After back forth, he said he was going to get his manager and we patiently waited. We then overhear on the radio "they are free to go." We were humiliated and embarrased that all this occured. What ticked me off and I found COMPLETELY unacceptable is that the management team member that was so accusatory FAILED to come out and show his face, have the common respect to say "hey we made a mistake and we are sorry." He hid behind a wall and had his security team deliver the "free to go." No apology is what all this boils down to. We wrote an email to Calder and got no response. The casino is near to the Football stadium. While entering there in the property, there is plenty of parking. Entered in the north entrance and noticed the area looks and feels clean. There was also no terrible cigarette smells which is normally associated with casinos. I went to the player's club to sign up as a new member to get my $50 free play credits. However after signing up as a new member the $50 free play credit is not applied in one go. I will have to spin the digital wheel 3 times each on a different day within 30 days of each other. I actually want to give Calder a three and a half star rating. I will start off with the more negative things I find about Calder. The parking is difficult. They really do not have much parking in the main area and I always have to park far away. I really don't mind this unless it is raining. It seems like no matter what time of day I go there it is busy, which I guess is good for them. I also think their variety of game denominations is limited. It seems like the majority of the machines are penny slots now. I am not a fan of those and it is harder and harder to find quarter machines. Onto the good stuff. The staff is pretty friendly at Calder. I had some great laughs with the fun people at the Players Club yesterday. They were super friendly and cheerful. I like that you can get a free soft drink at the machine. They actually have two drink machines, one on each side of the casino. It is nice to enjoy a cold drink, especially on a hot day like it usually is down here. I also like that they have live music on the weekends. It seems like all ages come here and it can be a fun environment on the weekends. Ok, so I just moved to Miami and after enjoying the Hard Rock, I thought I'd give this place a try. It's a mixed bag. Due to Miami-Dade rules, you can't have a drink, not even a soda at the machines with u. No smoking but there is an outside area with slots that u can smoke at, if u smoke. The welcome staff is super friendly and they are very welcoming too. Calder's is actually immaculately clean as well. NOW THE BAD: I've played slots and dozens of casinos, even the Seminole properties, Vegas, New Orleans too. These have to be the tightest slots I've ever encountered in my life. On Friday night around 10:15pm September 15 2023. I walked in the Casino and began playing on a slot machine and after 5 minutes, a black older woman approached me and said you are on my slot machine. I replied that I had been sitting here for over 5 minutes on this slot machine. She walked away and came back who was identified today as being the head of security with 3 security guards. I tried to explain to him about what happened and he just asked me to get up and leave the Casino before he calls the police. I got up took my ticket and cashed it out while the head of security and the 3 security followed me out the door. A few days later, and after I left a negative review on their site, I get a call from the Calder Casino Manager telling me that if that's what happened, the head of security had no right escorting me of the Casino, and that he was going to review the Casino video. Today, September 26, I finally got a call back from the Calder Casino Manager telling me that he reviewed the tape, and it seems that I at my no time seem nasty or aggressive but that the head of security informed him that the old black lady told the head of security that I had told her a Racial slur, and that was why he escorted me out. I insisted with the Manager that on the video tapes, did I seem to be engaged in a argument with the black lady which he agreed that our conversation seemed short and the lady walked away. Let me be clear that I would have never used a racial slur to anyone especially since I have a half brother from my father side who is black. Not to mention that I also have bi racial family members. This black lady got away with her lies while I went through the embarrassment of being escorted out of Calder Casino for no reason whatsoever. More so, I had been a loyal customer going there for over 2 years and bringing friends and family members to become members. Not to mention that I was going there every Tuesday and Thursday for Senior Citizens day and sometimes on the weekends. The Calder Casino Manager could only offer his apology for his Security Managers conduct and asked me to return to the Calder Casino, without any compensation for the embarrassment I went through but asked if I would come back. Dinner roll. Hard like a bullet. Seemed old, too. Warm your buns, staff! Most likely shipped in by a food distributor and not a bakery. But, who foolishly eats bread at a buffet anyways? Positives - Turkey and pork. If you can slice through that similar to the broccoli, then you know it was perfect. Broccoli was firm and seasoned nicely . Same with the meat. Loved the fact that it was not overcooked or undercooked! Smashed potatoes. Delicious! I loved little chunks with some skin on it because it means it's real! Moving along. They had an omelette station, hot and cold bar, grill to order steak, fish and chicken. A variety of ice cold sodas, bottomless Mimosas , Blood Marty's and Sangria. And add plus all the mothers a precious single roses and a special note. I really enjoyed the Brunch. I was excited when my phone went dead and they had a free charging station located inside of the casino. This is my go to Casino! No smoke. Parking and security all over. The employees are awesome. Bartender Sal is great! The floor waitresses/coffee ladies, Lorna and Sherry are very nice and always strike up a conversation. Lots of machines in a great floor layout! Food always available. They have complimentary soda machines. Also I like that it's clean and bright. I don't know how pay outs are determined but I hit here more than I ever have at Hard Rock or Gulfstream. While it doesn't have the glitz of Gulfstream or the Hard Rock( both of which are more expensive) it does have all of the above that I noted. I think they have pretty good comps too. As for clientele, there are always a few not so nice people in every casino but overall, everyone I interact with are nice people looking to win and have fun while doing so!
