They entice you with misleading claims (e.g. Free pickups for businesses) only to let those promises go unfulfilled by indicating that home-based businesses don't qualify, and aren't worthy of their time and attention. Newsflash: A larger and larger portion of the American work force is shifting to the Gig Economy meaning a very large portion of these businesses will be home-based. I would recommend using Green PC, or one of the other local e-cyclers in the area.

Because of that, I always thought I'd continue using their services. Unfortunately, my most recent experience was the complete opposite. Brandon is no longer with the company, and the new technician who came out not only attempted to overcharge us but also expected us to help with the work. It was disappointing, to say the least, and based on this experience, I won't be using American Shredding again.

I called and asked what their current rate was for aluminum turnings, and was told $.10/lb. (40% lower than the current rate, locally). When I asked why, then, did we only get $.015/lb. for it, I was told that that's the rate for "mixed" turnings. OK... How did my "clean" 6000 series turn into "mixed" at the lower rate? Well, apparently they don't have the ability to keep different series of aluminum separated, so it ALL gets paid at the lower rate, no matter how you bring it in. Even the $.10/lb. quote is BS, and isn't ever paid out. I suppose this recycler is great if you're a small-time scrapper, scrounger or tweaker, but if you run an honest business and would like a fair price for your scrap, look elsewhere.

Do these people have any control over their drivers? Or are we being subjected to spiteful…read morebehavior? Since Monday we've been trying to get our trash collected. When I called on Monday, I was told that it would be picked up "within 1-2 business days". I go "So, are we going to have to wait until Wed?" She goes, "there's already a work order for it so, it should be picked up today or tomorrow". Monday comes and goes, Tuesday comes and goes and nothing. So, I call back again Wed morning, talking to a different person this time and she clarifies "1-2 business days from Monday means Tuesday or Wednesday." She assures me their driver will be picking up our trash today by 5pm. So, here we are at 5:40pm on Wednesday and no pick-up. By the way, we live in a subdivision that's pretty much adjacent to their facility. For three days, we've been putting out our bin on the street every morning only to retrieve it in the evening. I guess their drivers have free rein on work orders. They can complete the work order or simply ignore it depending on their mood that day. People in 3rd world countries don't struggle this much to get their trash collected. How sad...

This business is certainly worth five stars. I used to be a loyal customer of Binford Metals, but…read moreevery trip to that place was a very unpleasant experience and I've detailed all of that on the yelp page for that business. So I started researching all of the other possibilities in the region and Valley seemed worth at least trying out, something that turned out to be a great decision. At first sight, they won't exactly WOW you, but you really shouldn't judge a book by its cover in this case. The people who work here are friendly and helpful. They will answer any of your questions. And they are highly competitive in the prices they pay for the various metals they accept. They also provide other services like disposing of appliances with Freon for you at very low costs to you. Plus honestly it feels more rewarding to be a tiny part of the success of a small business by being a customer. Where as at the larger competitor business, you are just an invisible cog in the machine. Easily dispensable, worthless. But at Valley you are treated the way you should be as their customer. Valued, respected, and treated in a professional manner. Not to mention the fact that they are open 7 days a week. Overall, I 100% recommend that you bring your business to Valley Recycling.
