I called and asked what their current rate was for aluminum turnings, and was told $.10/lb. (40% lower than the current rate, locally). When I asked why, then, did we only get $.015/lb. for it, I was told that that's the rate for "mixed" turnings. OK... How did my "clean" 6000 series turn into "mixed" at the lower rate? Well, apparently they don't have the ability to keep different series of aluminum separated, so it ALL gets paid at the lower rate, no matter how you bring it in. Even the $.10/lb. quote is BS, and isn't ever paid out. I suppose this recycler is great if you're a small-time scrapper, scrounger or tweaker, but if you run an honest business and would like a fair price for your scrap, look elsewhere.
