AVOID!!! Karla is unresponsive. We paid her a fair amount of money to draft and file a mediation settlement in family court. Karla drafted the documents, and after some back and forth between parties, we signed them. Karla failed to submit them to the court (4 weeks went by). When asked about the status, Karla was unresponsive; despite multiple emails and phone messages. We threatened to file a complaint with the AZ Bar Association due to her lack of response, at which point she responded saying she had a death in the family. Karla stated that she filed the paperwork, which proved not to be truthful. She made up a story about our address information not being on file with the courts, which was holding things up. Karla never called or emailed to let us know that there was a supposed issue with the address information. In reality, however, the judge's clerk confirmed nothing had been filed by the attorney and our case was not on Judge's docket. We ended up getting a mobile notary to re-sign everything, and filed the paperwork ourselves. Avoid this attorney at all costs! She is unprofessional, unresponsive, and I would not trust her with my legal matters (you shouldn't either). I did file a formal complaint with the AZ Bar Association, for whatever good that will do. Like most people, I expect my attorney to be responsive, truthful, and to follow through on what they are paid to do. read more

BEWARE: UNETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICES Upon asking for our retainer back due to circumstances beyond our control, Ms. Calahan did not take our calls or return our e-mails. We finally received a portion of our retainer back over a month later, with three hours of charges, no proof of any work done on our behalf, nor anything filed in court. Ms. Calahan seriously took advantage of us and we have nothing to show for it. We were respectful and mentioned doing business with her again, yet she still did not return calls/e-mails. You would think that a practice would want to retain their clients for future business, referrals, and positive world of mouth. This is not the case with this law firm. I don't expect they'll be in business very long operating with this mindset. I highly recommend you think twice before trusting her with your legal matters. read more

This attorney is a solo practitioner. She takes care of business; there is no one to mess things up like a paralegal focused on a fashion magazine or the secretary who was flipping burgers late last year. In a big firm, your case may be de-prioritized; the associate may have to help the partner with that partner's case; your case might be left in the dust when it really counts. I have engaged four attorneys in my family law case and now audit law school in advocacy for my daughter. I feel well qualified to offer a review. My family law case is highly conflicted and complex; accordingly to the assigned judge it is the most litigious case in a caseload of over 700 cases and "by far". The opposing counsel had been the co-partner of the former lead attorney general of Arizona. This attorney shines when it counts in the courtroom in the heat of the arguments over the highly contested issues. Having lost in the trial towards the Decree judgment, my daughter's mother went to the Court of Appeals seeking to overturn a well written and deliberated trial judgment. This attorney supported me heavily in defending the appeal and took the oral argument before the appellate judges in full stride with plain and simple arguments easily outdoing the opposing attorney with nearly four decades of experience. The Court of Appeals from the presiding judge gave a resounding affirmation of the trial judgment albeit with minor adjustments all in my favor. This legal victory has become the case law of the year so far in the area of family law. The appeal took over a year and longer because it was a "precedent". The life of my beloved daughter with autism hung in the balance with her therapies and treatments all on hold because of her mother's contempt of the trial court. My attorney took the time to "learn the case" and understand my positions, find the support in the law and then set a plan to accomplish goals all while standing up against unreasonable hyper-litigation I am hopeful of continued progress in advocacy for my daughter because of the support and expert legal services received from this attorney for which I will forever be grateful. For sure, Ms. Calahan hates to lose; it is plain on its face as they say in legalese which means it shows! Why would you ever want to be represented by an attorney who is "okay" with loosing?
