We found this great shop a couple of years ago, and fell in love with their beautiful desserts. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We ordered six cupcakes, a chocolate chunk cookie, and a cute decorated cookie. The chocolate chunk cookie was okay, but wouldn't purchase again. Everything here is delicious but I made this review with the sole purpose of advertising their strawberry cheesecake cupcake -- omg. I don't really like cupcakes, but I check their Facebook page every week to see if they have it. If they made it a staple in the case, I'd probably be there every day. Look at their Facebook or stop by and if you see a large cupcake smothered in not too sweet mascarpone frosting, dusted with graham cracker, with a large juicy glazed strawberry on top, GET IT. It's the only decent piece of fruit you'll find at any restaurant in Northfield. My roommate loves the chocolate salted caramel cupcake, and pretty much anything from here is great. I was shocked to see that Cakewalk advertised gluten-free options. The cupcake was amazing and the filling was great but I still wouldn't consider this a safe place to eat gluten-free food because I couldn't confirm how they prepare the gluten-free cupcakes differently, and they store the gluten-free cupcakes right next to the wheat ones. Nice small town bakery with some amazing cupcakes, bars and cookies plus so much more. They have it all! It's located downtown Northfield surrounded by lots of cute shops and places to eat and drink. 4 cupcakes, 3 HUGE bars, and a giant cookie cost $26. Stopped in tonight to pick up a cake for my mother's 80th birthday. After being left to stand at the counter, I moved to where the gal behind the counter could see me, and waited. Finally she asks if I have any questions, where I tell her, yes, I'd like to buy a cake. More waiting. Finally, with a sigh, she stops what she's doing and comes to the counter and tells me she only has vanilla cake. Disappointing to say the least. Where do I start! I went in to order a cake for my granddaughter and get cupcakes to go. The staff was very friendly, very helpful, made great suggestions and over helped me tremendously. I asked her to just"do something cool" for an 11 year old and they did not disappoint! Super yummy, my granddaughter LOVED it 'they used my favorite colors!' I was in Northfield yesterday and I have a giant sweet tooth and love trying new places so I found myself here after searching on yelp for something decadent. The case was ridiculous and I couldn't decide! I am so indecisive anyways so I asked the girl working for help and she suggested the black velvet cupcake so that's what I got! It was DELISH. Black chocolate cake filled with ganache and topped with a giant cream cheese frosting. Next time I come I will get a peanut butter one because those looked amazing also. At this point, I've been to Cake Walk at least a dozen times. Probably more. I take cakes to my parents' house in Wisconsin, bring cupcakes to work and occasionally just for my family. The one thing I've noticed that drives me crazy is that the people who work there are very nice, but they don't really have any sense of urgency to get people served. Not everyone enjoys waiting. In fact, I consider myself impatient. On Friday, I stopped in to pick up a cake for my husband's birthday. There were two people in front of me and it took me no less than 20 minutes to be on my way. I was "thisclose" to leaving and stopping at Dairy Queen for an ice cream cake but I knew my man would enjoy the always amazing flour less chocolate cake way more. The young lady working was friendly but slower than molasses in January. Their confections are a pure delight but customer service could use some work. read more

A bit pricey, but their cupcakes are really delicious. There isn't a cupcake flavor I've tried here that I haven't liked. Maple bacon is my favorite but I haven't seen it in the store in a few years, their availability of each flavor varies by day. Cake walk never disappoints. The reason i didn't give 5 stars is because of the prices. Their cupcakes seem to be smaller than other bakeries and cakeries in surrounding areas but are more expensive. I have tried almost ever flavor and there is not one cupcake from here that I don't like. I got my boyfriend addicted to this place too and my best friend. Every weekend I see him he's like wanna go to get cupcakes. Last weekend we tried Amy's cupcakes in Edina, saw it on tv, so my expectations were high. Cakewalk is a wonderful little dessert bakery emphasizing on cupcakes, cakes and other various dessert confections. Simply put, they are amazing and a great little alternative to the "big city" places. The cupcakes are reasonable at roughly $3.50 a piece and a decent cake averages $34 on up. Mind you, these are NOT grocery style bakery cakes...they are gourmet cakes all the way around. They also make custom items. We were visiting family and my wife cannot resist the chance at a Cupcake find . I consider her a cupcake addict. Her tastes differ from mine, but her cupcake savvy is pretty darn good. We walked in and the first thing I told the lady behind the counter was that these cupcakes made Sprinkles ( if you know cupcakes you know Sprinkles) cupcakes look like 2nd place!!! We picked up a six pack of a nice assortment for later that night for desert. Do the words beautiful, moist , decadent , rich, unique, and Damnnnnn mean anything. They were all that and more. Great end to a great meal and they are priced way better than Sprinkles too!!! We'll be back for more. We also picked up a couple Cannoli's and be warned they are not your traditional cannoli. Filled with mascarpone infused with rum. They looked beatiful, but not traditional with ricotta . Don't get me wrong, they told us this and they were very light and tasty, but not your traditional cannoli. I'm a traditionalist when it comes to these and I'll bet you sell more if you change the filling and dip the ends in pistachio dust and a cherry. JMO See you next time we're in town. Doesn't matter if it's 10 a.m. or 6 p.m. If I'm in Northfield and Cakewalk is open, I'm getting a cupcake from Cakewalk. My personal favorites are any of the fabulous caramel filled chocolate cupcakes- particularly the Snickerlicious or the Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel. Any of the lemon flavors are also yummy- a great balance of brightness and tart sweetness. I'm also partial to the Blueberry Pancake cupcake. Seems appropriate for the 10:00 a.m. sweet-tooth.... Basically what I'm saying is- if it's in the display case, you can't go wrong. When I got engaged, one of the first things I KNEW about our wedding was that I would be having Cakewalk do our desserts. If you're a fan of cupcakes, this place is pretty close to cupcake heaven. My current favorites are the latte cupcake and the peach cupcake. That said, the bars and other desserts are also terrific. IMO, the best bars are the ones in season, which were rhubarb and are now berry. The lemon bars are excellent year-round. For a special occasion for serious chocolate lovers, don't miss the flourless chocolate cake. It comes in both individual and party sizes. Topped with fresh raspberries, this will make even the pickiest chocoholic swoon. Let it come to room temperature for best flavor and texture. Used to love Cakewalk, scrumptious! But in the past couple years, they've decreased the size of the cake and most of it just isn't as good. They must use corn syrup in their chocolate icing as its always gluey and stretchy, ugg! No inventive flavors anymore but I guess those didn't sell well, fair enough. What was the last straw was when I tried to order a birthday cake (nothing fancy) for a birthday Feb 16. Tried to order on Feb 12 and was told impossible, too many Valentines Day orders! When reminded we didn't need the cake til 2 days after Valentine's, was told no. I could just pick one out of the freezer, which negates ordering from a bakery. Customer service, splat! I'll go elsewhere, this town has other options. They need a bit of professionalism infused here. read more
