I needed a little sweet something, and I saw this cutesy shop as I was crossing the street with the…read morewarm colors. I was looking for a brownie, not too sweet. And to my surprise, it was more than I was expecting. It was an old-fashioned brownie with the edges--you know, the chewy sides with a touch of burnt edges that we all loved. Also, they make cakes, and I loved the pretty green one. So I got a bit nosy, asking questions, and found that this is a full bakery. Yes, you can stop in and get a slice of cake, pies, and all kinds of delicious treats like brownies and cupcakes. But you can also order a whole cake. I like to say specialty cakes because they have flavors like the pretty Key Lime Cake with cream cheese icing on the outside and green on the inside. Another one that stands out is the Butter Pecan Cheesecake, Strawberry Crunch Cheesecake, or the Sweet Potato Red Velvet Custard Pie. It's truly a dessert paradise. One more thing: they cater to the holidays. If it's Labor Day, there will be treats dressed with the holiday decorations.

So y'all know umma be real. My sis wanted to take a trip to visit this shop. I looked at the…read morereviews and saw bad customer service so you know I didn't want to drive an hour for mistreatment. My sis purchased a red velvet from Shoppers Value when she saw they were sold in stores. She knows I'm not big on red velvet and am partial to the one cooked by Patricia Lyman. So to get me to purchase it, she said it's like Patricia's. The color was spot on but taste wise it wasn't to me. The cake was a little on the dry side. I even lifted the cakes to get the expiration date that was furthest out which was 9/30/25. Even if the cake had been freshly cooked today, there is no way I would even keep a cake in my house for this long. It's lucky to sit a whole week. I will upload locations in Macon these can be purchased from. I ONLY went to Shoppers Value because it was closest. But with the 10% extra charge I do not frequent here at all. My thing is you are not giving me a discounted rate if you charge 10% on top of the other tax. Just charge me regular price off the bat. Back to the cake...there are other flavors such as key lime and strawberry crunch so I recommend you try it for yourself. It would probably make a difference to try these when they are freshly baked. The review scores are as follows: My score: 3 Sissy Pooh: 4 The highest score was allotted as I try to be fair.

I took a little too long to write this review my apologies so I don't have too much more to say I did visit this shop in December of 2020. I came in hoping to find 1 moist cake and ended up leaving with 3 plus a croissant. And let me tell you, everything was perfection! The business is bright, clean and the service was friendly. I love the fact that they have loose leaf teas and a variety of exotic flavors. You do not see this often and as a self-proclaimed tea snob, I will return to try, as I did not get any tea on my first visit. The owner did inform me that they will begin weekend Brunch Buffets in April. I am looking forward to attending. However, seating seems limited within the restaurant. It will be interesting to see how they arrange it. It is recommended or required to RSVP for the brunch. It's approximately $45/pp, unsure if it is all you can eat. Now for the part you all have been waiting for, the food ratings: Croissant with Egg & Cheese: prepared to order, and eggs cooked to preference. The croissant was large, buttery and flaky. Only suggestion is to charge a smidgen less for items that are not ordered with a protein. - A Strawberry Cheesecake Cake: I prefer my cakes room temp, but tried it both cold and room temp. Both ways did not disappoint. This was plum delicious. The frosting was the perfect amount of strawberry goodness and sweetness. - A+ Strawberry Crunch Cake: tasted like a more flavorful Strawberry Shortcake. Again, it was the perfect balance of sweetness, flavor and lightness. Only note was that the cake was a tad bit dense. But it's supposed to be like a shortcake, then that makes sense. - A Biscoff Cheesecake: geez Louise, I know Biscoff is having a moment right now and I am here for it. This cheesecake was sweet, tangy and the icing was lightweight and flavorful. Another perfect combination. I only got to eat 1/4 of this because it was supposed to be for my partner, but it looked so tempting that I had to "borrow" some. I am so glad that I did. - A+ My only negative is that prices are a little steep; however, I do acknowledge that the price of small business ownership and heck, just overall living, has increased for all.

Besides the fact that I love brownies and cake, her presentation caught my eye. The cakes, cupcakes and jars were beautifully decorated and assembled. I wish I had taken pictures but I didn't think to post a review until after I left and tasted what I bought. O...M...G...the brownie jar was sooooooo good! I eat chocolate cake or brownies with cheesecake often and this was essentially that and so much more. The jar included brownies, cheesecake, fudge, caramel and pecans. The strawberry crumble cake was like eating a strawberry cake and a strawberry shortcake frozen dessert bar all in one. Cakes By Lyd has gained a new fan/customer.
