Cake Clothing is a very trendy clothes boutique which would perhaps be more at home on Byres Road rather than Dumbarton Road. Although they have a nice selection of well made clothes - they're a little too expensive for the student crowd that I assume that they're aiming at. They have smaller little known labels in stock, which consists mainly of mini dresses/tunics plus knitwear for girls and skate-inspired gear for guys. They have loads of posters up for music gigs and local bands which creates a nice look. Overall, a cool shop, but overpriced. Look out for their sale!

When you walk in, you clearly get the vibe that this is a university student's frequent haunt. As we shopped here, students came in and out, receive a discount, and generally have their needs met with the types of clothing available. However, the selection of clothes in the store isn't so student oriented that a wider audience won't be able to find something of interest. The first floor is more women's oriented, with tartan featuring prominently. The second floor is men's, which had some decent selections of Fred Perrys and the like. When we were there, the store was staffed just by a couple girls on the first floor, and they were pretty deep in conversation with each other. Didn't bother us at all, but perhaps don't expect to have staff catering to your every need here. But if you just like to do your thing and browse through the racks, you should be well sorted.,

I spent good money (too much) on trousers that had an irreparable defect that I did not notice until I put them on at home. I understand this is a risk with 2nd hand clothing, and places don't accept returns etc, but I do draw the line at paying ~£30 for something I literally can't wear. I messaged their instagram page about it and expressed my disappointment that they weren't willing to reconcile this in any way (I said I felt this was poor customer service) and the message I received back was so cheeky I am honestly in disbelief. So here I am doing the only thing I can do since I've literally wasted my money.

Forty is the clothing side of things and while it's not my kind of thing (edgy streetwear), they did have some nice stuff and tshirts. There's also Safehands Barbers so you can get a whole new look with a cut and some clothes. As for the fashion, well i have to be honest and say I've only ever bought socks from here. Good socks, admittedly, but I'm not sure the quality is matched by the rest of the stock which appears to be a little tired and dated. Worth a look though for every day essentials.

It has good quality materials and this is reflected in decent - not taking the pee - prices. However, my main YAY! for this shop does come solely from an experience which happened a couple of weeks ago. The boy's mother came up to Glasgow for the day and while I was hard at work, they went for a stroll. On this stroll, the boy was bought some brand new, spanking clean socks by his mother. Not, really the kind of thing I would normally make a big deal of. But for the past month he'd been wearing either socks with massive holes in them or purple thermal numbers of mine. Who knew a pair of new, clean black socks could be so so sexy??

Tretcherous!"). When you walk into Fat Face you are immediately greeted with their 'survival' stock (do necklaces really count... really!?). You've got to give it to them though, for such a small store they have actually packed it full of stuff. Women's clothing, men's clothing, kid's clothing, boots, 'survival' kits, accessories... ooft. It has it all. The clothes aren't AMAZING or the height of fashion - they'd do the job - but they aren't exactly my cup of tea (especially when they come at quite a high price). Like most places on Byres road, everything comes at a price. I once bought a thermos mug for my sister, which cost me, £23 no less. And no, it didn't make the coffee for you either. Troubling, isn't it? I'm slightly skeptical - it is nice for a one off gift every now and again - maybe it's worth a look if you need outdoors type clothes, and have lots of pennies to spend? I don't know, but it doesn't really cater for me, I'm afraid.

So, with this in mind I set about scouring all available charity and retro shops for the odd bit of funky tartan. From old bat wing jumpers to spangly velvet prom dresses, it's enough to beat the 80s out your system by snaffling up these goodies. The store is split evenly into guys and doll's clothes, although choice for the senorita's seems to top the bill as they have an extensive range of long dresses, dating as far back as the 50s. But most of their clothing seems to be from the 70s and beyond as there are a lot of old tennis tops to be had for men, and brown prarie dresses for women. Items look evenly and fairly priced, so you're looking to spend roughly £20 on a dress, £15 on a skirt, £10 on a jumper and the tops are super cheap. For guys, they have decent priced Wrangler denim shirts (which as I'm writing this are very in), sports jackets galore (so you can look like an 80s footballer) and loads of jeans in really good condition. The rails are crammed with choice. The girls who work in here are lovely - very chipper, helpful and you can hear them singing along to their CD's! I got a plaid shirt out of here today so I was chatting away to one of the girls. She sounds like she's Spanish, I'm not sure, but she says they source their stock from as far away as Germany and Holland. It explains the variety of clothing, as you can always find something different in here. And it's cheap, so I will be taking advantage of their nautical selections since they are so affordable!

"Good afternoon, I order a lot of stuff online from many questionable sources, so I have a very high tolerance for dealing with dumb stuff, but my experience with your store has been far and away the worst I have ever experienced in my life. Let me summarize for you the ridiculous things that have happened while I was trying to spend money at your store. First of all your checkout was broken as hell and it took me 3 tries to check out. Since it took me so long, the Teal Rick Owens Hike shirt I was trying to purchase sold out, and I was unable to purchase. After completing my order I was charged through paypal for the full total. But then, the order didn't ship. So you had my money but there was no indication the status of my order. It took TWO WEEKS to ship, and in that time I emailed customer service multiple times and got no response. NONE AT ALL. Finally the package shipped - but only half my items shipped. The worst part of this is that the items that shipped were not the two I wanted most, but rather the two I had added to help justify the cost of shipping. Still no word on whether or not the other 2 items had been canceled. Also, when the two items shipped I was AGAIN CHARGED for the value + tax + shipping on those two items. So now I have been DOUBLE CHARGED and I'm only getting half my items. Today the package arrived and when I opened it I noticed the two items that didn't ship were simply crossed off on my invoice in red pen. No cancellation email, no monetary refund, JUST CROSSED OUT ON THE INVOICE. As frosting on the cake, one of the two items you did send me, the shoes, ARE ENTIRELY THE WRONG COLORWAY. I ordered vans in black suede with a snakeskin stripe, and I received grey Vans with a burgundy stripe. I want to know what you're going to do to make this right. Quite frankly I think it is utterly ridiculous that I'm even having to deal with this. I want you to take the shoes back - and I'm not paying for shipping back. I want my money back for the double charge and the items I didn't get. And I think I should be refunded the shipping cost too since I've now only gotten ONE ITEM I actually wanted and I would have never bought that one item alone because of the high cost of shipping." I HAVE HEARD NOTHING BACK AND THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING TO MAKE THIS RIGHT.
