I was a patient at the BAART San Mateo clinic for 7 years straight. By the end of 2024, I was…read morecompletely drained from the experience. That place is horribly staffed, always long wait times, and total chaos with the two-line system--where people lie just to cut in the "working line." It honestly felt like a circus. One morning I went in early, no line at all, only to find out none of the dispensary nurses had shown up. That was my breaking point. I usually got two weeks of take-homes, but that day my counselor told me to head to either San Francisco or San Jose. He said he'd fax my paperwork and it would take an hour. Instead, I sat there for 5 hours, and when I finally got called up, they only gave me my dose for that day. That was it for me--I knew I had to transfer. Another big frustration at San Mateo was their rules around "steps." At that clinic, if you wanted to move up a step, you couldn't taper at the same time. My counselor even told me he spoke with the director and that I had to choose--either move up to Step 5 and stay at my current dose, or stay in my step and taper down. Why couldn't I do both? For someone like me who was commuting almost two hours each way, being able to move up a step while tapering would've made perfect sense. It would've meant seeing them less often while still making progress. The thing is, I was doing everything right--I saw my counselor regularly, had a good relationship with him, and I was always on top of it with clean UAs. I called the Richmond clinic right after and got in the very next day. Intake was smooth, maybe two hours total. From day one, I could feel the difference. No line, no nonsense, and staff who actually want to help people. At San Mateo, it always felt like they wanted to keep me stuck on methadone forever. Here in Richmond, it's supportive. When I arrived, I was on a high dose, and now I'm down to 28mg. I also want to give a shoutout to my former counselor Christy. She was one of the best--always checked in on me, asked how my taper was going, and really cared. She's no longer here, but I'm proud of her and thankful for the time she worked with me. Another huge thing: San Mateo never even ran my insurance the whole time I was there. For years, I had Contra Costa Medi-Cal, but I was commuting almost 1 hour 45 minutes each way just to dose. I thought it was normal. Now my drive is only 15 minutes, and honestly, transferring to Richmond was the best decision I've ever made. Just because these clinics are under the same company doesn't mean they're the same. BAART Richmond is hands down one of the best in the Bay Area.

She not only extremely helped my son but our relationship too. My son was with her as a child and now as an adult. He graduated from both and I pray that if he's in need again she will be available. She helped us communicate better and understand each other too. He suffers with many mental health obstacles, was diagnosed with autism disorder and disassociation disorder and more. There was an issue that was one of the greatest burden in our relationship. She got to the route of it and was able to get it resolved and see the truth. I'm so deeply appreciative to all her help. I would recommend her 110+% to anyone! She is devoted, understanding, truthful, honest, and there for her clients which is something I haven't seen with many others. Thanks so much Dajenay for all your help and many blessings always!!

I tried her out because she did EMDR, which I read about as useful for processing trauma. We did a thorough intake(and many intake forms) where Annie confirmed she would be a great fit as my therapist. Yet after a few sessions she suddenly said she lacked the expertise to continue providing care, rendering all the time and money spent for the previous sessions a waste. I asked her for a refund. She tried to make me sign a lawyer document. It turns out she got upset over a cancellation(a cancellation she agreed to personally cancel) and decided to schedule another session just to charge me the extra money and terminate the therapy relationship.

She upsells and overcharges, and her fees seem to go more towards marketing than her actual practice. She spent a lot of time talking about how great of a saleswoman she is. It appears that she cares more about running her business and exploiting her patients to make money than helping her patients. If you're in search of a therapist, you're much better off looking for a more affordable and less money-hungry practitioner who genuinely cares about their patients. There are many of them in the Bay Area and with some effort you'll find one. Good luck.
