I was a skeptic. I met Grant Rudolph six months ago at a friend's book signing. When the conversation turned to his work I was immediately intrigued--doubly so because I've been a licensed psychotherapist since 1996 and had never heard of neurotherapy. One particular statement he made during that first conversation really struck with me: "Neurofeedback shows your brain how it is wasting energy worrying about the past so it can let go and relax into the now." I had my doubts, but I decided to look into LENS. In short order, I discovered that not one, but three friends I trust had done it with great success. I have seen Grant three times now for LENS (low energy neurofeedback) therapy. Its kind of like an EEG (?) but less wires and faster. Apparently I have a high level of theta waves (he likened it to squirrels running around my brain), which makes sense. I've been under a ton of stress and trauma lately (relationship ending, constant construction all day next door to where I live/work, etc). Ah -- which word to choose? Astonished? Amazed? Absolutely grateful? At this point I have had only four sessions with Grant Rudolph -- significantly less than the lowest recommended "dose" (if you like). And yet I feel truly liberated. I now realize what "Be Here Now" IS. I can now meet challenging situations -- triggers, and just plain worrisome events -- and NOT be taken over, ambushed, by my traumatic past. In two weeks I turn 77, and for all those years I have been the continued victim of the terrifying, brutalizing assaults of my violent, psychotic "father" and the non-intervention of my alcoholic, childish "mother". After those four LENS sessions, I no longer perceive far, far too many current events as profoundly threatening repeats of my terrible childhood. I've been dealing with this excruciating head pain for 17 months resulting from a large metal object falling on top of my head at work. I cannot speak highly enough of Grant Rudolph and LENS therapy. I cannot believe that I had never heard of LENS before I started seeing him. I felt cognitive improvements the very first session I had with Grant, including feeling more calm, focussed, alert, and clear-headed. A very interesting experience. I had a lens session with Grant. The next day I had kind of a mild headache which he said could happen with too much stimulus but the next 3 days my mind was very clear. My diagnoses were depression and anxiety associated with grieving over the sudden loss of my spouse 19 years ago. Ever since, constant repetition of the events and a deep depression have affected my social functioning, affected my work stability, as well as sleep patterns, appetite, and basic joie de vivre. I've seen Grant now for five LENS therapy sessions. Immediately after the first, I felt a lifting in my shoulders. My stiff neck and teeth clenching and grinding were alleviated, and two months later, I no longer have a stiff neck. I didn't feel the exuberance that many experience after the first treatment. My awareness of the changes came on overnight. I wasn't as irritable with traffic and with things that usually annoy me and even anger me. I got Neurofeedback at Echo Rock for the initial 20 sessions and it changed my life. I started getting treated when I was a junior in high school for help with anxiety and to improve my SAT scores. My anxiety decreased more then I could have ever imagined and my SAT score went up over 300 points. I noticed that all of the fear I had associated with testing vanished and I was able to relax more.
