Small quick place for breakfast or coffee and a pastry. Lots of families on an early Saturday morning.

We were wandering the area and found this local hangout place. This is a great corner with a good view of the city and it's really good people watching! The ambiance is cozy - lots of locals, there are even some strollers, toddlers, and families playing card games. It's like a friend's living room where all stop by for a drink and a snack. The food- delicious tomato soup, mint tea brewed from fresh sprigs, and the bitterballs... A must have.

Nice place to stop after the market - cozy and comfortable , it was like so many small ditch cafes , serving coffee and a variety of lunch items. Soup was excellent and toast with cheese and tomato was also good.

This is the kind of cool Bohemian cafe that you'd expect to see in Amsterdam. Think of an artsy coffee shop in SF or seattle, but they serve beer and alcohol! When I was there it was full of locals and tourists alike. The food was good with some international flavor here and there. Although be warned, it will take half an hour to get a simple sandwich, when in Rome... It is also right next door to Noodermarket which is an awesome organic farmers market... another must see!

So good I stopped by twice on a 3 day trip to the city…read more I stopped by on my first visit craving a big, hearty sandwich for a late lunch and thought this might be a good find. Happy to report I was very right. I grabbed one of the many outside seats, took a look at the menu that was entirely in Dutch and waited for the wonderful waitress to quickly translate nearly every item for me. I landed on the chicken club and it hit the spot. I arrived hungry but could still only manage to finish half. Chicken was grilled perfectly into thin slices, soft boiled egg was a new touch that I loved, avocado, lettuce and probably a few other things I am forgetting. Oh, and a handful of crisps on the side. On my next visit, it was my last night in Amsterdam and I still haven't tried the infamous fries. I stopped in around 9:30 for a late night snack and a hot ginger tea. The fries were the perfect fries! Thin, crispy, salty. I loved. I also can get behind the mayo thing they do here, even though I really am a ketchup loyalist. Anyway, lunch or dinner or late night snack, this is a good spot. You'll like the foot and you'll love sitting outside people watching, reading your book, whatever.
