Service was OK, people were a little rude. We had one issue with the waitress, she never asked us if we wanted to be charged Euros vs US dollars. When asked her about it, she rudely said that is not her problem and it was our problem with the bank. I didn't expect such a response. It could of easily been voided and do over.

I had a jamon Iberico and cheese croissant and the kids enjoyed their toasted chocolate croissants. Liz ordered a perico eggs. It was all good. The service was very good, attentive, and humble. It was a small place and we were lucky to get a small table towards the front. As it got busier, folks had to check in and wait for a table. The front was also set up for a take out, but most people waited for a table. Good food, strong coffee.

I think the coffee is very tasty and they have an extensive menu. I really enjoyed the toasts, which were inexpensive and good. I sat at this cafe for about 4 hours and got a ton of work done. I grabbed a mini croissant-style puff pastry with turkey, tomato, avocado, and pesto, plus a mini brioche bun with crab, pink sauce, and lettuce. The seafood bun was solid, but that turkey pesto croissant was ... excuse my language ... the f****n' truth! No exaggeration THEE best croissant I've ever had. It was so good chile, I came back the next day and got a full-sized one for lunch and it was still just as good. The space inside is clean and room with lots of comfy furniture; in addition, they also have free WiFi and clean bathrooms which is always appreciated while out and about in the city on vacation. If you're in Madrid (or Mexico City or Japan where there other locations are) this place is a must try! PS: The have a rewards app and will give you a free plain buttery croissant for joining.

The tarta de queso fundente (melting cheesecake) is one of the best desserts I have ever tasted!…read more I actually sought out Pastelería Mallorca because I read somewhere that the Fismuler cheesecake was available there. But from what I can gather, the tarta de queso fundente is a completely different dessert. I was not disappointed! According to their website, the cheesecake has a "thin and crispy cookie layer, a creamy interior, and a flavor blend of cream cheese, fresh cheese, and premium parmesan." I admit I'm a parmesan fanatic. This cheesecake has such an interesting, intense flavor. The texture was indeed "melting" - gooey on the inside, a little bit more set toward the outside. It was rich but not overly sweet, and had a savory kick from the parmesan. I will be dreaming about this cheesecake until I hopefully make it back to Madrid again one day. I came here for dessert and coffee after lunch at the Mercado de la Paz. I also got a lovely café con leche to go with the cheesecake. They have other food and desserts as well, but this cheesecake was so delicious, I wanted to leave a review just to spotlight it.

The space is incredible- a former church I assume, or if it's not, they did an amazing job making it look that way. Vaulted ceilings, crazy chandeliers, etc. Just a beautiful room to have a drink- I added two photos to try to do it justice. The food was pretty solid too- I got a spanish quesadilla (sorry, I was weary from a long road trip) as well as a goat cheese an onion tarte I think. Both were way more refined and substantial than what we in the States expect from bar food. The drink (Hendrick's & soda) was properly presented in a huge sniffer, sliced cucumber & lime, with soda on the side for me to add my desired amount. I think it might have been like 8 euro, but so be it. It was worth it. Twice. I was there on a Wednesday night with Real playing on TV (it was an away game, I assume scene would have been different if the game was at home, just a couple blocks from The Monk's), and it was pretty quiet. Not dead, but a reserved, small crowd. Very close to the AC Cuzco by Marriott where I was staying, so if you're there looking for a nearby pub/bar, this is a solid choice.
