Craving traditional Bavarian food in a traditional Bavarian setting?
This family-owned restaurant is tucked away in the lake region of Kochel, a one hour train ride from Munich, in general very much well worth the getaway. Two of us stopped by on our way to the train station before we had to catch our train back to Munich and to fill up with the German traditional coffee time before dinner. The host and hostess are lovely and so hospitable and watching them play with their daughter (3-years-old at time of writing) was a delight. But now the best part: the cake and the coffee! I had a raspberry gelée layered atop a carrot cake--never had this before and the combination was devoured before you could say Easter Bunny. My partner-in-cake had a mandarine cheesecake which I barely got a taste of--fantastic crust, too. Everything is homemade and delicious. We can't wait to return for dinner! Looks like a fun, tasty local culinary experience! The five stars are for the food, the service and especially for making us feel at home after a long day of swimming, hiking and sightseeing! read more
