I quote Eva K....
"I love this place but obviously I have never been here during winter time"
Smart observation Eva and prophetic.
OK OK !! I get that peepz vote for this Café cos you would enjoying sitting outside on a warm Summers Morning, Lunchtime or Evening (multiple choice selection for you) watching the masses trudge past Olaf Ryes Plass whilst you cradle your glass and talk idle banter but if the measure of the place was based on the cuisine they serve then we have a problem folks. Yep, we do. Fo'sho'
Lets get to the crux of it ..... everything about Café Fontés mentions Tapas and that was the main reason I called by. I fancied some Tapasitas, plain and simple. It is the kind of food that you can't really screwup. Easy to prepare small bites right?! Didn't happen for me here ....
Aioli y pan was 'Meh'.
Calamares was 'overfried' and crunchy. One push of your finger on the batter released sweat beads of fatty oil, not nice.!
Frito de langostinos were way too over seasoned and covered in a gloopy, overpowering dressing of some kind which my palate did not recognise.
My Tortilla had too much going on around it and all over it as well. It is downright criminal to smother a good tortilla in what appeared to be a pizza base sauce? Not right, what were they trying to cover up?
Tapas should be simple and small and fresh. What I had here was overcooked, over seasoned and overpriced.
I cannot argue that I would run here, nay gallop!!,to take a drink when the Sun is out but don't forget where we are. This is Norway and the Sun set sail for the South sometime around August 21st and is not due back til sometime next June, correct? The only thing you are likely to see sat outside any evening right about now is a Polar Bear. read more
